| 1 E uscendo del tempio, dissegli uno de' suoi discepoli maestro, guarda come sono belle pietre, e come sono belli edificii! | 1 And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!" |
| 2 E rispondendo Iesù, dissegli vedi tu tutti questi grandi edificii? Dicoti che non si lascerà pietra sopra pietra, che non si distrugga. | 2 And Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down." |
| 3 E sedendo egli nel monte delli olivi, dirimpetto al tempio, addomandavalo disparte Pietro, Iacobo, Ioanne e Andrea: | 3 And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, |
| 4 a noi manifesta, quando faransi queste cose? e quale segnale sarà quando incominciarassi a essere consumate tutte queste cose? | 4 "Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign when these things are all to be accomplished?" |
| 5 E rispondendo Iesù, incominciò a dirli: guardatevi, che alcuno non vi seduca. | 5 And Jesus began to say to them, "Take heed that no one leads you astray. |
| 6 Imperò che molti verranno nel mio nome, dicendo come io sono (il Messia); e seduceranno molti. | 6 Many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he!' and they will lead many astray. |
| 7 Ma quando udirete essere le guerre, e le opinioni delle battaglie, non vogliate temere; imperò che bisogna che (prima) siano fatte queste cose; ma non però dico il fine. | 7 And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is not yet. |
| 8 Certo leverassi la gente contra la gente, e il regno sopra il regno, e per li luoghi saranno gli terremoti e la fame. Queste cose sono incominciamento di dolori. | 8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places, there will be famines; this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs. |
| 9 Ma guardatevi voi medesimi; imperò che loro vi daranno (e appresentaranno) nelli consigli, e nelle sinagoghe sarete battuti, e starete dinanzi alle podestà e alli re per amore mio, in loro testimonio. | 9 "But take heed to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils; and you will be beaten in synagogues; and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them. |
| 10 E in prima bisogna essere predicato l' evangelio. | 10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. |
| 11 E quando vi avranno menati dinanzi a loro, non vogliate imaginare quel che parlate; ma parlate in quell'ora quel che sarà pòrto; imperò che voi non sete quelli che parlate, ma il Spirito santo. | 11 And when they bring you to trial and deliver you up, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say; but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. |
| 12 Onde il fratello tradirà il fratello nella morte, e il padre il figliuolo; e leveransi li figliuoli contra il padre e la madre, e affligeranno quelli nella morte. | 12 And brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; |
| 13 E per amore del mio nome sarete in odio a tutti; ma colui che sostenerà insino alla fine, egli sarà salvo. | 13 and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. |
| 14 E quando vederete l'abbominazione della desolazione essere dove non deve; colui che legge intenda; allora quelli che sono in Iudea, fuggano nelli monti. | 14 "But when you see the desolating sacrilege set up where it ought not to be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; |
| 15 E chi è sopra il tetto, non discenda nella casa, e non entri per togliere alcuna cosa della casa sua. | 15 let him who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take anything away; |
| 16 E chi sarà nel campo, non ritorni addietro a togliere il vestimento suo. | 16 and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his mantle. |
| 17 Guai alle pregnanti e parturienti in quelli giorni! | 17 And alas for those who are with child and for those who give suck in those days! |
| 18 Ma pregate che queste cose non siano nell'inverno. | 18 Pray that it may not happen in winter. |
| 19 Imperò che quelli giorni saranno di tali tribulazioni, quali non furono dal principio della creatura, la quale Dio creô, insino al presente, ed etiam non saranno. | 19 For in those days there will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be. |
| 20 E [se] il Signore non avesse abbreviati gli giorni, non sarebbe salva ogni carne; ma per li eletti, li quali egli ha eletto, ha abbreviato li giorni. | 20 And if the Lord had not shortened the days, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days. |
| 21 E allora, se alcuno vi dirà: ecco che quivi gli è Cristo, ecco ch' egli è colui, non credete. | 21 And then if any one says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'Look, there he is!' do not believe it. |
| 22 Imperò che leverassi il falso Cristo e il falso profeta, e faranno li segni e miracoli a seducere etiam, se sarà possibile, li eletti. | 22 False Christs and false prophets will arise and show signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. |
| 23 Voi adunque guardatevi; ecco che io vi ho predicato ogni cosa. | 23 But take heed; I have told you all things beforehand. |
| 24 Ma in quelli giorni, dopo quella tribulazione, oscurerassi il sole, e la luna non darà il suo splendore. | 24 "But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, |
| 25 E caderanno le stelle del cielo, e moveransi le virtù che sono in cielo. | 25 and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. |
| 26 E allora vederanno venire il Figliuolo dell' uomo nelle nuvole con molta virtù e gloria. | 26 And then they will see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory. |
| 27 Poscia mandarà li suoi angeli, e da' quattro venti raunarà li eletti suoi, dall' altezza della terra. insino all' altezza del cielo. | 27 And then he will send out the angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. |
| 28 Onde dalla ficaia imparate la parabola : quando che il suo ramo sarà tenero, e saranno nasciute le foglie, voi conoscete che s' appressa la estate. | 28 "From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. |
| 29 Così e voi, quando vederete essere fatte queste cose, sappiate che in breve egli è alle porte. | 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. |
| 30 In verità vi dico che non passarà questa generazione, insino a tanto che queste cose siano fatte. | 30 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place. |
| 31 Passeranno il cielo e la terra; ma le mie parole non verranno meno. | 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. |
| 32 Ma di quello giorno, e di quella ora, nullo il sa, nè etiam li angioli nel cielo, nè etiam il Figliuolo, salvo il Padre. | 32 "But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.33 Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time will come. |
| 33 Vedete e vigilate e orate; imperò che n?n sapete quando sarà il tempo. | 33 . |
| 34 Si come l'uomo, che andò in peregrinaggio,. e lasciò la casa sua, e diede alli servi suoi potestà d'ogni cosa, e al portinaro comandò che vegghiasse. | 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch. |
| 35 Adunque vegghiate; imperò che non sapete quando il signore della casa verrà, o da sera, o da mezza notte, o quando il gallo canta innanzi alla mattina; | 35 Watch therefore--for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning-- |
| 36 sì che, se subitamente venisse, non vi trovi dormire. | 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. |
| 37 E quello che io dico a voi, a tutti io dico: vigilate. | 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Watch." |
