| 2 E ivi parlò Iddio a Moisè, dicendogli: | 2 "Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I give to the people of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, every one a leader among them." |
| 3 Manda uomini che veggiano la terra di Canaan, la quale io debbo dare loro; e fa che siano d'ogni tribù, e siano di loro principi del popolo. | 3 So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran, according to the command of the LORD, all of them men who were heads of the people of Israel. |
| 4 E fece Moisè siccome Iddio avea comandato, mandando del deserto di Faran li principi uomini; de' quali questi sono i nomi: | 4 And these were their names: From the tribe of Reuben, Shammu-a the son of Zaccur; |
| 5 della tribù di Ruben, Sammua figliuolo di Zecur; | 5 from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori; |
| 6 della tribù di Simeon, Safat figliuolo di Uri; | 6 from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh; |
| 7 della tribù di Giuda, Caleb figliuolo di Iefone; | 7 from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph; |
| 8 della tribù d'Issacar, Igal figliuolo di Iosef; | 8 from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun; |
| 9 della tribù di Efraim, Osee figliuolo di Nun; | 9 from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu; |

| 16 della tribù di Gad, Guel figliuolo di Machi. | 16 These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua. |
| 17 Questi sono i nomi di quegli uomini, che mandò Moisè a considerare la terra di Canaan: e chiamò Osee, figliuolo di Nun, Iosuè. | 17 Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, "Go up into the Negeb yonder, and go up into the hill country, |
| 18 E mandogli Moisè a considerare la terra di Canaan, e disse loro: andate per la parte del mezzo giorno. Quando voi venite al monte, | 18 and see what the land is, and whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many, |
| 19 guardate la terra, com ' ella è fatta; e la gente che dentro abita, s'ell ' è forte o debole; o pochi o assai; | 19 and whether the land that they dwell in is good or bad, and whether the cities that they dwell in are camps or strongholds, |
| 20 e se la terra è buona o ria; se [le città ] sono murate o non; | 20 and whether the land is rich or poor, and whether there is wood in it or not. Be of good courage, and bring some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes. |
| 21 se [ la terra ] è grassa o sterile, o boscosa o senza arbori. Confortatevi, e recateci del frutto della terra. Ed era appresso il tempo che l'uve incominciano a maturare. | 21 So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, near the entrance of Hamath. |
| 22 Come furono ascesi, riguardarono la terra del deserto [di Sin] insino a quello di Roob, entran do in Emat. | 22 They went up into the Negeb, and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) |
| 23 E vennero verso del mezzogiorno, e vennero in Ebron, ove erano Achiman e Sisai e Tolmai figliuoli di Enac. Ed era Ebron, per sette anni innanzi Tani città d'Egitto, edificata. | 23 And they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and cut down from there a branch with a single cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two of them; they brought also some pomegranates and figs. |
| 24 E andando insino al fiume che si chiama Botri, tagliarono li rami con l'uve, quanto due uomini poteano portare. Delle mele granate e dei fichi di quello luogo tolsero. | 24 That place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the men of Israel cut down from there. |
| 25 E chiamossi quello luogo NEEL Escol, cioè RASPOLO DI UVA APPRESSO IL FIUME. E questo fu detto per l'uve che ne portarono a figliuoli d'Israel. | 25 At the end of forty days they returned from spying out the land. |
| 26 E tornarono quelli uomini, i quali andarono a vedere la terra di Canaan), e stettero per XL dì, e cercarono per ogni parte. | 26 And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the people of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. |
| 27 E tornando a Moisè e ad Aaron, e a tutto il popolo ch' era nel deserto di Faran, che è in Cades, parlarono loro, e ' dissero a tutta la moltitudine, monstrando (tutti) i frutti di quella terra: | 27 And they told him, "We came to the land to which you sent us; it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. |
| 28 noi vegnamo di quella terra dove voi ci comandaste; e veramente ella è terra dolce come latte e mele, come per questi frutti ne possiamo conoscere. | 28 Yet the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there. |
| 29 Ma ella hae li monti molto grandi, e le cittade colle mura altissime. La schiatta di Enac vi vedemmo. | 29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan." |
| 30 Amalech abita nel mezzogiorno; lo Eteo, Iebuseo e Amorreo abitano nelle montagne; lo Cananeo abita presso al mare, dalla parte del fiume Giordano. | 30 But Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once, and occupy it; for we are well able to overcome it." |
| 31 Vedendo questo Caleb, che il popolo mormorerebbe contro a Moisè, disse: andiamo e posse diamla, perciò che noi la potremo troppo bene pigliare. | 31 Then the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we." |
| 32 E gli altri, ch' erano istati con lui, diceano: lasciate dire, chè noi non potremo resistere loro, però che loro sono più forti di noi. | 32 So they brought to the people of Israel an evil report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land, through which we have gone, to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature. |
| 33 La terra, che aveano veduta buona, si la faceano cattiva presso il popolo d'Israel, e diceano: la terra che noi vedemmo sì è piena degli suoi abitatori, e il popolo che noi vedemmo ha grandissima statura. | 33 And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim); and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them." |
| 34 Noi vi vedemmo la mostra de' figliuoli di Enac, i quali pareano giganti; chè appresso loro parevamo minori che grilli. | |
