| 1 Efraim pasce lo vento, e sèguita lo caldo; tutto lo di moltiplica lo guastamento (e la superbia) e la bugia; e lo patto fermò con li Assirii, e portava l'olio in Egitto. | 1 Ephraim herds the wind, and pursues the east wind all day long; they multiply falsehood and violence; they make a bargain with Assyria, and oil is carried to Egypt. |
| 2 Lo giudicio del Signore sarà con Giuda, e la visitazione con Iacob; e renderà a lui secondo le sue vie (cioè secondo le sue opere) e secondo che troverà. | 2 The LORD has an indictment against Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways, and requite him according to his deeds. |
| 3 Ello affogoe lo suo fratello nel ventre; e nella sua fortezza è dirizzato con l'angelo. | 3 In the womb he took his brother by the heel, and in his manhood he strove with God. |
| 4 E aiutollo, ed ebbe vittoria, e confortossi; e pianse e pregollo; in Betel (cioè in quella terra) trovollo, e ivi parlò con noi. | 4 He strove with the angel and prevailed, he wept and sought his favor. He met God at Bethel, and there God spoke with him -- |
| 5 E lo Signore delli esèrciti è suo memo riale. | 5 the LORD the God of hosts, the LORD is his name: |
| 6 E quando sarai convertito allo Signore Iddio, guarda la misericordia e lo giudicio, e abbi speranza nel tuo Iddio sempre. | 6 "So you, by the help of your God, return, hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for your God." |
| 7 Canaan (cioè una terra) ci diede in mano la stadera piena d' inganno, e amò la calunnia. | 7 A trader, in whose hands are false balances, he loves to oppress. |
| 8 E disse Efraim: io sono fatto ricco, e hoe trovato a me uno idolo; tutte le mie fatiche non mi troveranno la malvagitade ch' io ho commessa. | 8 Ephraim has said, "Ah, but I am rich, I have gained wealth for myself": but all his riches can never offset the guilt he has incurred. |
| 9 Io sono lo tuo Signore Iddio della terra d'Egitto; ancora io ti farò sedere nel tabernacolo, come ne' dì della festa. | 9 I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt; I will again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed feast. |
| 10 E io hoe parlato sopra li profeti, e io moltiplica la visione, e sono assomigliato nella mano de' profeti. | 10 I spoke to the prophets; it was I who multiplied visions, and through the prophets gave parables. |
| 11 Se in Galaad è lo idolo, adunque invano erano in Galgal offerendo buoi; e li loro altari erano come sono li montice li sopra li solchi del campo. | 11 If there is iniquity in Gilead they shall surely come to nought; if in Gilgal they sacrifice bulls, their altars also shall be like stone heaps on the furrows of the field. |
| 12 E Iacob fuggio nella contrada di Siria, e Israel servio per la moglie, (sì come si legge nel Genesis, quando Iacob servio cotanti anni per avere moglie, che servio inanzi VII anni, e parvegli poco; però che amava molto quella che avea nome Rachel, e poi non gli fu data; anzi ebbe la sorella che avea nome Lia; e poi per avere Rachel egli servie altri VII auni), e poi l' ebbe. | 12 (Jacob fled to the land of Aram, there Israel did service for a wife, and for a wife he herded sheep.) |
| 13 E lo Signore Iddio menò Israel di Egitto per lo mezzo dello profeta; e fu conservato per lo profeta. | 13 By a prophet the LORD brought Israel up from Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved. |
| 14 E provocò Efraim Iddio nella sua amaritudine a ira; e lo suo sangue verrà sopra lui, e lo Signore Iddio li restituirà lo suo vituperio. | 14 Ephraim has given bitter provocation; so his LORD will leave his bloodguilt upon him, and will turn back upon him his reproaches. |
