| 1 Dà laude, o tu sterile la quale non partorisci; e dà laude e inno, la quale non partorivi; però che sono molti figliuoli della deserta (cioè della Chiesa) più che fossero di colei la quale aveva lo marito, dice lo Signore Iddio. | 1 "Sing, O barren one, who did not bear; break forth into singing and cry aloud, you who have not been in travail! For the children of the desolate one will be more than the children of her that is married, says the LORD. |
| 2 Allarga lo luogo dello tuo padiglione, e distendi le pelli delli tuoi tabernacoli; e fa lunghe le tue funicelle, e ferma bene li tuoi chiodi. | 2 Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; hold not back, lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes. |
| 3 E trapasserai alla tua mano diritta e alla manca; e lo tuo seme erediterae le genti, e abiterae le cittadi deserte. | 3 For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left, and your descendants will possess the nations and will people the desolate cities. |
| 4 Non temere, però che non sarai confusa e non averai vergogna; e non ti vergognerai, però che tu ti dimenticherai la confusione della tua giovinezza, e dello obbrobrio della tua vedovità non te ne ricorderai più. | 4 "Fear not, for you will not be ashamed; be not confounded, for you will not be put to shame; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more. |
| 5 Però che colui che fece te sarà di te Signore; lo suo nome si dice lo Signore delli esèrciti, e lo tuo redentore (sì è buono), santo di Israel, (e) sarà chiamato lo Signore d' ogni terra. | 5 For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called. |
| 6 Però che lo Signore chiamò te collo spirito come femina abbandonata e dolente, e come moglie che è abbandonata (e dolente) nella giovinezza; e così disse lo Signore Iddio. | 6 For the LORD has called you like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when she is cast off, says your God. |
| 7 Io abbandonai te al punto in poca cosa, e radunerò te nelle grandi misericordie. | 7 For a brief moment I forsook you, but with great compassion I will gather you. |
| 8 In uno momento d' indignazione io nascosi la mia faccia uno poco da te, ed ebbi misericordia di te nella misericordia sempiterna, disse lo tuo Redentore (cioè lo) Signore Iddio. | 8 In overflowing wrath for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you, says the LORD, your Redeemer. |
| 9 Così è questi, come fu nel tempo di Noè, al quale io giurai ch' io non farei venire il diluvio più sopra la terra; e così giurai acciö ch' io non mi adiri e non ti facci riprensione. | 9 "For this is like the days of Noah to me: as I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you and will not rebuke you. |
| 10 Però che li monti si convertiranno, e li colli tremeranno; ma la mia misericordia non si partirà da te, e lo patto della mia pace non si muterà; così disse lo tuo misericordioso Signore. | 10 For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the LORD, who has compassion on you. |
| 11 Com'è la poverella isvolta dalla tempestade, che sta sanza alcuna consolazione! Ecco io disponerò per ordine le tue pietre, e fonderò te ne' zaffiri. | 11 "O afflicted one, storm-tossed, and not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in antimony, and lay your foundations with sapphires. |
| 12 E per (li tuoi combattitori, cioè per) le tue fortezze io porrò la pietra (preziosa) di jaspide; e le tue porte saranno di pietra scolpita, e tutti li tuoi termini saranno (scolpiti e) posti in pietre desiderose (cioè molto belle a vedere). | 12 I will make your pinnacles of agate, your gates of carbuncles, and all your wall of precious stones. |
| 13 E farò che tutti li tuoi figliuoli saranno ammaestrati dal Signore; e a' tuoi figliuoli darò moltitudine di pace. | 13 All your sons shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the prosperity of your sons. |
| 14 E tu sarai fondata in giustizia; pàrtiti dalla lunga dalla calunnia, però che tu non temerai; e pàrtiti dalla paura, però che non ti s' approssimerà. | 14 In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near you. |
| 15 Ecco che verrà (l'albergatore forestiere, ovvero) l'abitatore, il quale non era meco; e lo forestiere, che fu di quinci adietro tuo, sarà giunto a te. | 15 If any one stirs up strife, it is not from me; whoever stirs up strife with you shall fall because of you. |
| 16 Ecco ch' io hoe formato lo fabbro, (il quale accende li carboni, e) che soffia nel fuoco e che proferisce (cioè fa) lo vaso nella sua opera; e io anche creai l'ucciditore, però che ispargesse (e uccidesse). | 16 Behold, I have created the smith who blows the fire of coals, and produces a weapon for its purpose. I have also created the ravager to destroy; |
| 17 Ogni vaso lo quale è composto (e fatto non si dirizzerà e) non verrà inverso te; e tu giudicherai nel giudicio ogni lingua la quale ti farà resistenza. Questa è la ereditade de' servi del Signore Iddio, chè la loro giustizia è appo lui, secondo lui. | 17 no weapon that is fashioned against you shall prosper, and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and their vindication from me, says the LORD." |
