| 1 Consolatevi, consolatevi, populo mio, dice lo vostro Signore Iddio. | 1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. |
| 2 Parlate al cuore di Ierusalem, e chiamate quella; però che la malizia sua è compiuta, e la sua iniquitade è lasciata; ella hae ricevuto dalla mano del Signore lo doppio per tutti li peccati suoi. | 2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the LORD's hand double for all her sins. |
| 3 La voce del gridante nel deserto (che dice): apparecchiate la via del Signore, e fate diritte nella solitudine le vie del nostro Signore Iddio. | 3 A voice cries: "In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. |
| 4 Ogni valle sarà esaltata, e ogni monte e (grande) colle sarà recato al basso, e saranno le cose prave diritte, e l'aspre saranno recate in piano. | 4 Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. |
| 5 E sarà rivelata la gloria del Signore, e tutta la carne (cioè la umana generazione) vederà quello che la bocca del Signore ha parlato. | 5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken." |
| 6 E la voce del dicente (dirà): grida. E io dissi: che gridero? Tutta la carne (cioè ogni generazione) sì è come fieno, e lo spirito suo come fiore di campo. | 6 A voice says, "Cry!" And I said, "What shall I cry?" All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. |
| 7 Lo fieno è seccato, e lo fiore cadde; però che lo spirito di Dio soffiò in quello. Veramente questo fieno significa il popolo. | 7 The grass withers, the flower fades, when the breath of the LORD blows upon it; surely the people is grass. |
| 8 Il fieno è seccato, e lo fiore è caduto; ma la parola (e il detto) del nostro Signore Iddio istarà fermo in sempiterno. | 8 The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand for ever. |
| 9 Sali (e monta) sopra uno alto (e grande) monte tu il quale evangelizzi a Sion; ed esalta nella fortezza la tua voce, il quale evangelizzi Ierusalem; allègrati, e non temere. Di' alle cittadi (e alle terre) di Giuda: ecco lo vostro Iddio. | 9 Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good tidings; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good tidings, lift it up, fear not; say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!" |
| 10 Ecco, lo Signore Iddio, egli verrà con fortezza, e lo suo braccio (cioè la potenza) signoreggierà; ecco, lo suo merito sì è con lui, e la sua operazione inanzi a lui. | 10 Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. |
| 11 Egli pascerà la sua greggia, come fa lo pastore; e con lo suo braccio (cioè colla sua potenza) raunerà li agnelli, e col suo grembo li leverà di terra; e porterà le filiatrici. | 11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arms, he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. |
| 12 E chi (sostiene e) misura le acque con uno pugno, e chi ha ponderato li cieli con uno palmo? e chi peserà lo gravamento della terra con tre dita (quasi con niente), e pesò li monti col peso, e li colli colla stadera? | 12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? |
| 13 Chi udì lo spirito di Dio? ovvero chi fu allora suo consigliere, per dimostrare a lui? | 13 Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, or as his counselor has instructed him? |
| 14 Con cui fece consiglio, e diedegli ammaestramento, e insegnolli la via della giustizia, e ammaestrollo in scienza, e dimostrolli la via della prudenza? | 14 Whom did he consult for his enlightenment, and who taught him the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? |
| 15 Ecco le genti sono riputate come la gocciola della secchia (piena; e per li suoi pertusi esce l'acqua per quelli fori, e quelli si chiamano stilli ovvero gocciole); e sono reputate le genti ancora come uno momento di statera; ecco le isole sono come una piccola polvere. | 15 Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are accounted as the dust on the scales; behold, he takes up the isles like fine dust. |
| 16 E lo Libano (cioè dove sono legne senza fine) non basterà ad ardere, e li animali che vi sono dentro non basteranno per lo sacrificio. | 16 Lebanon would not suffice for fuel, nor are its beasts enough for a burnt offering. |
| 17 Tutte le genti così sono innanzi a lui, quasi come se non fussono; e quasi niente e cosa vana sono reputate a lui. | 17 All the nations are as nothing before him, they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness. |
| 18 Adunque a cui avete fatto simile Dio? ovvero che imagine porrete a lui? | 18 To whom then will you liken God, or what likeness compare with him? |
| 19 Or farà lo fabbro lo intaglio? o l' orefice lo figurerà con l'oro, e l'argentaro farà lui di lamina d'argento? | 19 The idol! a workman casts it, and a goldsmith overlays it with gold, and casts for it silver chains. |
| 20 Forse che lo artefice savio scelse lo legno infracidabile; e cercherà (e domanderà) come faccia (ovvero come ordini da fare) l'idolo, e fermilo sì che non muova. | 20 He who is impoverished chooses for an offering wood that will not rot; he seeks out a skilful craftsman to set up an image that will not move. |
| 21 Or non sapete voi? or non udiste voi? or non v'è egli stato annunciato dal principio? or non avete voi inteso li fondamenti della terra? | 21 Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? |
| 22 Lo quale (istà e) siede sopra lo giro della terra, e sono quasi come grilli li abitatori suoi; lo quale distende e allarga li cieli, quasi per niente, e distendeli come uno tabernacolo ad abitare. | 22 It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in; |
| 23 Lo quale reputa li cercatori delle cose segrete quasi come se non fussono, e fece li giudicatori quasi come una cosa vana. | 23 who brings princes to nought, and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing. |
| 24 E in verità (anche appena) non era piantato nè seminato nè radicato lo loro tronco; e subitamente soffiò in quello, e seccossi; e la tempesta del vento lo porterà via quasi come uno piccolo foglio di legne secche. | 24 Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when he blows upon them, and they wither, and the tempest carries them off like stubble. |
| 25 E dice lo Santo: a cui m' avete assomigliato e agguagliato? | 25 To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One. |
| 26 Alzate in alto li vostri occhi, e vedete (e consigliate e considerate) chi ha fatte queste cose; lo quale mena in numero la loro milizia, e tutti li chiama per nome; e per la moltitudine della fortezza e della potenza e della sua virtude solo uno non rimase. | 26 Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing. |
| 27 Perchè dici, Iacob, e parli, Israel: la via mia è nascosta dal Signore, e dal Dio mio lo mio giudicio passerà? | 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, "My way is hid from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God"? |
| 28 Or non sai tu, or non udisti tu? Iddio, in sempiterno Signore, il quale creò li termini della terra, e' non verrà meno, e nè si affaticherà; e non cercamento nè fondo si puote trovare della sua sapienza. | 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary, his understanding is unsearchable. |
| 29 Il quale dae al desolato virtude; e a quelli che non sono alcuna cosa, dà fortezza e multiplica la vigoria. | 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. |
| 30 E li fanciulli verranno al difetto, e affaticherannosi; e li giovani cadranno nella loro infermitade. | 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; |
| 31 Ma quelli che hanno la loro speranza in Dio, muteranno la loro fortezza, e piglieranno le penne come l'aquila; correranno e non dureranno fatica, anderanno e non verranno in difetto. | 31 but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. |
