| 1 Ecco venire di Giuda, secondo la parola di Dio, uno uomo di Dio in Betel, istando Ieroboam sopra l'altare, e offerendo l' incenso. | 1 And behold, a man of God came out of Judah by the word of the LORD to Bethel. Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense. |
| 2 E gridò secondo la parola di Dio contra l' altare, e disse: altare, altare, questo dice il Signore: ecco che nascerà figliuolo alla casa di David, il quale avrà nome Iosia, e ucciderà sopra te i sacerdoti dei luoghi alti, i quali ora accendono l'incenso in te, e arderà sopra te le ossa degli uomini. | 2 And the man cried against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, "O altar, altar, thus says the LORD: 'Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and he shall sacrifice upon you the priests of the high places who burn incense upon you, and men's bones shall be burned upon you.'" |
| 3 E in quel dì diede segnale, dicendo: questo sarà il segnale che Iddio ha detto: ecco che l'altare si fenderà, e la cenere, la quale è in esso, si spargerà. | 3 And he gave a sign the same day, saying, "This is the sign that the LORD has spoken: 'Behold, the altar shall be torn down, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.'" |
| 4 E udito il re la parola [dell' uomo] di Dio, la quale avea detta contro all'altare il quale era in Betel, istese la mano sua dell' altare, dicendo: pigliatelo. E incontanente si seccò la sua mano, la quale avea istesa contro di lui; e non la poteo ritrarre a sè. | 4 And when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar at Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, "Lay hold of him." And his hand, which he stretched out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back to himself. |
| 5 E l'altare si fesse, e la cenere ch' era in esso si sparse, secondo il segnale che avea predetto l'uomo di Dio, secondo la parola del Signore. | 5 The altar also was torn down, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD. |
| 6 E disse [il re] all' uomo di Dio; priega la faccia del tuo Iddio, e ora per me, acciò che mi sia restituita la mano. E l'uomo di Dio orò al Signore, e la mano ritornò a lui, cioè quella del re, e fu fatta sì come era prima. | 6 And the king said to the man of God, "Entreat now the favor of the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me." And the man of God entreated the LORD; and the king's hand was restored to him, and became as it was before. |
| 7 E disse il re all' uomo di Dio: vieni con meco a casa mia a desinare, e farotti donamenti. | 7 And the king said to the man of God, "Come home with me, and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward." |
| 8 E respuose l'uomo di Dio al re: se tu mi dessi la metà della tua casa, non verrei teco, e non mangerò pane, nè berò acqua in questo luogo. | 8 And the man of God said to the king, "If you give me half your house, I will not go in with you. And I will not eat bread or drink water in this place; |
| 9 Però che così comandò a me il Signore, e disse: non mangiare pane, e non bere acqua, e non ritornare per la via per la quale tu andasti. | 9 for so was it commanded me by the word of the LORD, saying, 'You shall neither eat bread, nor drink water, nor return by the way that you came.'" |
| 10 E andossene per un' altra via; e non ritornò per quella, ch' era venuto in Betel. | 10 So he went another way, and did not return by the way that he came to Bethel. |
| 11 E uno profeta antico abitava in Betel, allo quale andarono i suoi figliuoli, e narrarongli tutte queste cose che l'uomo di Dio avea fatte in quello die in Betel; e le parole, che avea dette al re, dissero al padre. | 11 Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel. And his sons came and told him all that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; the words also which he had spoken to the king, they told to their father. |
| 12 E il padre disse loro: per quale via n' andò? E i figliuoli gli mostrarono la via per la quale n’andò l'uomo di Dio, il quale era venuto di Giuda. | 12 And their father said to them, "Which way did he go?" And his sons showed him the way which the man of God who came from Judah had gone. |
| 13 E disse ai figliuoli suoi: sellatemi l'asino. Il quale sellato, montovvi suso. | 13 And he said to his sons, "Saddle the ass for me." So they saddled the ass for him and he mounted it. |
| 14 E andonne dopo l' uomo di Dio, e trovollo sedere sotto uno terebinto, e disse a lui: se' tu l'uomo di Dio, il quale venisti di Giuda? E quegli respuose: io sono esso. | 14 And he went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak; and he said to him, "Are you the man of God who came from Judah?" And he said, "I am." |
| 15 E quegli disse a lui: vieni meco a casa, e mangerai del pane. | 15 Then he said to him, "Come home with me and eat bread." |
| 16 Il quale respuose: io non posso tornare, nè venire teco, e non mangerò pane e non berò acqua in questo luogo. | 16 And he said, "I may not return with you, or go in with you; neither will I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place; |
| 17 Però che il Signore mi comandò dicendo: non mangerai pane, nè beverai acqua in quello luogo, nè tornerai per quella via per la quale tu anderai. | 17 for it was said to me by the word of the LORD, 'You shall neither eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by the way that you came.'" |
| 18 E quegli disse a lui: i' sono profeta simile a te, e l'angelo mi favellò dalla parte di Dio, dicendo: ritornalo alla tua casa, acciò che mangi del pane e beva dell' acqua. E ingannollo. | 18 And he said to him, "I also am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, 'Bring him back with you into your house that he may eat bread and drink water.'" But he lied to him. |
| 19 E ritornò seco; e mangiò il pane e bevè l'acqua nella casa sua. | 19 So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water. |
| 20 E sedendo egli alla mensa, la parola di Dio fu fatta al profeta che l' avea ritornato. | 20 And as they sat at the table, the word of the LORD came to the prophet who had brought him back; |
| 21 E disse all' uomo di Dio il quale era venuto di Giuda, e disse: questo dice Iddio: però che tu non fosti obbediente alla bocca di Dio, e non facesti il comandamento che (egli) ti comandò il Signore tuo Dio, | 21 and he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, "Thus says the LORD, 'Because you have disobeyed the word of the LORD, and have not kept the commandment which the LORD your God commanded you, |
| 22 e ritornasti, e mangiasti pane, e bevesti acqua nel luogo nel quale ti comandò che tu non mangiassi pane nè bevessi acqua, il tuo corpo non sarà riposato nel sepolcro de' tuoi. | 22 but have come back, and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which he said to you, "Eat no bread, and drink no water"; your body shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.'" |
| 23 E avendo mangiato e bevuto, il profeta che l'avea ritornato sellò l'asino suo. | 23 And after he had eaten bread and drunk, he saddled the ass for the prophet whom he had brought back. |
| 24 E andossene; e trovollo uno leone nella via, e ucciselo, ed era il [suo] corpo nella via gittato; e l'asino istava al lato suo, e il leone istava a lato il corpo. | 24 And as he went away a lion met him on the road and killed him. And his body was thrown in the road, and the ass stood beside it; the lion also stood beside the body. |
| 25 E le persone, che passavano per la via, viddero il corpo gittato nella via; e il leone istava a lato il corpo. E vennero, e divulgarono il fatto nella città dove abitava il profeta, che l' avea rimenato della via. | 25 And behold, men passed by, and saw the body thrown in the road, and the lion standing by the body. And they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt. |
| 26 Il quale disse: egli è l' uomo di Dio, il quale non fu obbediente alla bocca di Dio, e hallo dato il Signore al leone, e hallo morto, ed è fatto secondo la parola di Dio. | 26 And when the prophet who had brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, "It is the man of God, who disobeyed the word of the LORD; therefore the LORD has given him to the lion, which has torn him and slain him, according to the word which the LORD spoke to him." |
| 27 E disse ai figliuoli suoi sellatemi l'asino. I quali avendolo sellato, | 27 And he said to his sons, "Saddle the ass for me." And they saddled it. |
| 28 quegli andò, e trovò il corpo giacere nella via, e l'asino e il leone istare presso al corpo; e il leone non mangiò del corpo, e non fece male all'asino. | 28 And he went and found his body thrown in the road, and the ass and the lion standing beside the body. The lion had not eaten the body or torn the ass. |
| 29 E tolse il profeta il corpo dell' uomo di Dio, e puoselo in su l'asino, e portollo nella città del profeta vecchio, acciò che il piagnessero. | 29 And the prophet took up the body of the man of God and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back to the city, to mourn and to bury him. |
| 30 E puosero quello corpo nel suo sepolcro; e pianserlo, dicendo: oimè, oimè, fratello mio. | 30 And he laid the body in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, "Alas, my brother!" |
| 31 E avendo pianto, disse ai suoi figliuoli: quando io sarò morto, seppellitemi nel sepolcro nel quale è seppellito l' uomo di Dio; a lato alle sue ossa ponete le mie. | 31 And after he had buried him, he said to his sons, "When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones. |
| 32 Senza niuno dubbio che quello, ch' egli hae detto da parte di Dio, verrà contro all' altare il quale è in Betel, e in contro a tutti i templi che sono negli alti luoghi nelle città di Samaria. | 32 For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass." |
| 33 E dopo queste cose, Ieroboam non ritornò della via sua pessima; ma per contrario degli ultimi del popolo fece sacerdoti di quegli luoghi alti; chiunque voleva, riempìa la sua mano, ed era fatto sacerdote dell' altare. | 33 After this thing Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way, but made priests for the high places again from among all the people; any who would, he consecrated to be priests of the high places. |
| 34 E per questa cagione la casa di Ieroboam peccò, e fu subversa e tolta di sopra alla terra. | 34 And this thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, so as to cut it off and to destroy it from the face of the earth. |
