| 1 E Roboam venne in Sichem; però che ivi era raunato tutto Israel per fare lui re. | 1 Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king. |
| 2 Ed essendo ancora Ieroboam figliuolo di Nabat in Egitto, fuggito dal cospetto di Salomone, audita la morte sua, ritornò di Egitto. | 2 And when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was still in Egypt, whither he had fled from King Solomon), then Jeroboam returned from Egypt. |
| 3 E mandarono e chiamaronlo; e venne Ieroboam, e tutta la moltitudine d' Israel, e dissero a Roboam: | 3 And they sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came and said to Rehoboam, |
| 4 Il tuo padre impuose a noi giogo durissimo; ora iscema un poco del durissimo comandamento del tuo padre, e del gravissimo giogo che il tuo padre c'impuose, e noi ti serviremo. | 4 "Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke upon us, and we will serve you." |
| 5 Il quale respuose: andate insino al terzo dì, e tornerete a me. E andato che fu il popolo, | 5 He said to them, "Depart for three days, then come again to me." So the people went away. |
| 6 il re Roboam fece consiglio con gli antichi, i quali solevano stare nel cospetto di Salomone suo padre, essendo vivo, e disse loro: che consiglio mi date voi, ch' io responda al popolo? | 6 Then King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he was yet alive, saying, "How do you advise me to answer this people?" |
| 7 I quali dissero a lui: se tu oggi obbedirai a questo popolo, e servirai, e consentirai alla petizione loro, e parlerai loro parole morbide, saranno tuoi servi d'ogni tempo. | 7 And they said to him, "If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them, and speak good words to them when you answer them, then they will be your servants for ever." |
| 8 E lasciò il consiglio che i vecchi gli aveano dato, e chiamò a sè giovani ch' erano [stati] governati con esso lui, e istavano dinanzi a lui. | 8 But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him and stood before him. |
| 9 E disse loro: che consiglio mi date voi, ch' io risponda a questo popolo, il quale mi dice: fa che il giogo, il quale il tuo padre puose sopra di noi, sia (per te) più leggiero? | 9 And he said to them, "What do you advise that we answer this people who have said to me, 'Lighten the yoke that your father put upon us'?" |
| 10 E dissero i giovani, ch' erano [stati] nutricati con esso lui: di' al popolo che dice: il tuo padre aggravò il giogo nostro, tu l'alleggerire; dira'gli così: il minore dito mio è più grosso che il dorso del mio padre. | 10 And the young men who had grown up with him said to him, "Thus shall you speak to this people who said to you, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but do you lighten it for us'; thus shall you say to them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's loins. |
| 11 Il padre mio puose sopra voi uno giogo grave, e io arrogerò sopra il vostro giogo; il mio padre vi battette con esso i flagelli, e io vi batterò con esso lo scorpione. | 11 And now, whereas my father laid upon you a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.'" |
| 12 E il terzo dì venne Ieroboam e tutto il popolo a Roboam, così come il re gli avea detto: ritornate a me il terzo dì. | 12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king said, "Come to me again the third day." |
| 13 E il re rispose parole dure al popolo, lasciato il consiglio che gli antichi gli avevano dato. | 13 And the king answered the people harshly, and forsaking the counsel which the old men had given him, |
| 14 E disse loro secondo il consiglio de' giovani: se il padre mio vi tenne sotto grave giogo, e io augerò il vostro giogo; il padre mio vi battè colli flagelli, e io vi batterò cogli scorpioni. | 14 he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions." |
| 15 E non consentì il re al popol, però che Iddio l' avea avversato (dal popolo) acciò ch' egli facesse la sua parola, la quale avea detto per mano di Aia di Silo a Ieroboam figliuolo di Nabat. | 15 So the king did not hearken to the people; for it was a turn of affairs brought about by the LORD that he might fulfil his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat. |
| 16 E veggendo il popolo, che il re non gli avea voluto udire, respose a lui dicendo: che parte abbiamo noi in David? e che eredità nel figliuolo d' Isai? Vattene, Israel, alla casa tua; ora vedi la casa tua, David. E andò Israel nelle case sue. | 16 And when all Israel saw that the king did not hearken to them, the people answered the king, "What portion have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, David." So Israel departed to their tents. |
| 17 E Roboam regnò sopra tutti questi della casa d' Israel, i quali abitavano nelle città di Giuda. | 17 But Rehoboam reigned over the people of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah. |
| 18 E Roboam mandò Aduram, il quale era sopra i tributi; e tutto Israel il lapidò, e morio. E Roboam di fretta montò nel carro, e fuggio in Ierusalem. | 18 Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was taskmaster over the forced labor, and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. And King Rehoboam made haste to mount his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem. |
| 19 E Israel si partio della casa di David, insino al presente dì. | 19 So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day. |
| 20 E udito tutto Israel, che Ieroboam era ritornato, intervenne che mandarono per lui, e raunata alquanta moltitudine (li quali) il fecero re sopra Israel; e non fu persona che seguitasse la casa di David, se non la tribù di Giuda. | 20 And when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent and called him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. There was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only. |
| 21 E Roboam venne in Ierusalem, e congregò tutta la casa di Giuda, e tutta la tribù di Beniamin, CLXXX milia di uomini eletti, per combattere contro alla casa d'Israel, e per ridurre il regno a Roboam figliuolo di Salomone. | 21 When Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to restore the kingdom to Rehoboam the son of Solomon. |
| 22 E la parola di Dio fu fatta a Semeia, uomo di Dio; e disse: | 22 But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God: |
| 23 Favella a Roboam figliuolo di Salomone re di Giuda, e a tutta la casa di Giuda e di Beniamin, e a tutti gli altri del popolo, e dirai: | 23 "Say to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, |
| 24 Questo dice il Signore: non anderete, e non combatterete contro a' vostri fratelli figliuoli d' Israel; e ogni uomo ritorni in casa sua, però che questo è fatto da me. E udirono la parola di Dio, e ritornarono di quello cammino, sì come il Signore avea comandato. | 24 'Thus says the LORD, You shall not go up or fight against your kinsmen the people of Israel. Return every man to his home, for this thing is from me.'" So they hearkened to the word of the LORD, and went home again, according to the word of the LORD. |
| 25 E Ieroboam edificò Sichem nel monte d' Efraim, e abitò ivi; e uscito indi edificò Fanuel. | 25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and dwelt there; and he went out from there and built Penuel. |
| 26 E disse Ieroboam nel suo cuore: ora ritornerà il regno alla casa di David, | 26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, "Now the kingdom will turn back to the house of David; |
| 27 se questo popolo ascenderà a fare sacrificii alla casa di Dio in Ierusalem; e convertirassi il cuore di questo popolo al suo signore Roboam re di Giuda, e ritornando a lui, uccideranno me. | 27 if this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, to Rehoboam king of Judah, and they will kill me and return to Rehoboam king of Judah." |
| 28 E per pensato consiglio fece due vitelli d'oro, e disse al popolo: da ora innanzi non ascendiate in Ierusalem, però che questi sono gli dii tuoi, che trassero te, Israel, della terra d'Egitto. | 28 So the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold. And he said to the people, "You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough. Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt." |
| 29 E l'uno puose in Betel, e l'altro in Dan. | 29 And he set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan. |
| 30 E questo fu fatto in peccato; e andava il popolo ad adorare il vitello in Dan. | 30 And this thing became a sin, for the people went to the one at Bethel and to the other as far as Dan. |
| 31 E fece il tempio nel luogo alto; e degl' infimi del popolo ordinò sacerdoti, i quali non erano de' figliuoli di Levi. | 31 He also made houses on high places, and appointed priests from among all the people, who were not of the Levites. |
| 32 E ordinò il dì solenne nell' ottavo mese, nel quinto decimo dì del mese, in similitudine della solennitade che si fa in Giuda. E ascendendo nello altare, simigliantemente fece in Betel, acciò che sacrificasse ai vitelli ch' egli avea fatti; e ordinò in Betel sacerdoti di eccelsi, ch' egli avea fatto. | 32 And Jeroboam appointed a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices upon the altar; so he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made. And he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made. |
| 33 E ascese sopra lo altare il quale avea fatto in Betel, il quintodecimo di del mese [ottavo], il quale avea ordinato di suo cuore; e fece festa ai figliuoli d' Israel, e montò sopra l'altare per offerire l' incenso. | 33 He went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and he ordained a feast for the people of Israel, and went up to the altar to burn incense. |
