| 1 Fue detto a Ioab, che il re piagnea il suo figliuolo. | 1 It was told Joab, "Behold, the king is weeping and mourning for Absalom." |
| 2 E fu convertita in quello die [la vittoria] in pianto a tutto il popolo; però che il popolo udio dire in quello dì, che il re si dolea del suo figliuolo. | 2 So the victory that day was turned into mourning for all the people; for the people heard that day, "The king is grieving for his son." |
| 3 E declinò il popolo in quel dì, ed entrò nella città, come suole declinare uno uomo, fuggendo dalla battaglia. | 3 And the people stole into the city that day as people steal in who are ashamed when they flee in battle. |
| 4 E il re, col capo coperto, gridava ad alta voce: figliuolo mio Assalom, Assalom figliuolo mio! | 4 The king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, "O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!" |
| 5 E Ioab, entrato al re in casa, disse: tu hai oggi confuso il viso di tutti i servi tuoi, i quali hanno salvato l'anima tua, e l'anima de' tuoi figliuoli e figliuole, e l'anima delle tue mogli e delle tue concubine. | 5 Then Joab came into the house to the king, and said, "You have today covered with shame the faces of all your servants, who have this day saved your life, and the lives of your sons and your daughters, and the lives of your wives and your concubines, |
| 6 Tu ami coloro che t'odiano, e odii coloro che t'amano; oggi hai mostrato che tu non curi (de' tuoi baroni) nè tuoi prencipi, nè tuoi servi; veramente io conosco oggi, che se Assalom fosse vivo, e tutti noi fossimo morti, tu saresti contento. | 6 because you love those who hate you and hate those who love you. For you have made it clear today that commanders and servants are nothing to you; for today I perceive that if Absalom were alive and all of us were dead today, then you would be pleased. |
| 7 Ora ti lieva, ed esci fuori, e favella e satisfa ai tuoi servi; ch' io ti giuro per Dio, che se tu non farai così, che questa notte non ne rimanerà niuno teco; e peggio ti sarà questo, che tutti i mali che ti sono intervenuti dal tempo della fanciullezza insino al tempo presente. | 7 Now therefore arise, go out and speak kindly to your servants; for I swear by the LORD, if you do not go, not a man will stay with you this night; and this will be worse for you than all the evil that has come upon you from your youth until now." |
| 8 E levossi il re, e sedette nella porta; la qual cosa fu significata a tutto il popolo, come il re sedeva nella porta; e tutta la moltitudine venne dinanzi al re; e Israel fuggì nelli suoi tabernacoli. | 8 Then the king arose, and took his seat in the gate. And the people were all told, "Behold, the king is sitting in the gate"; and all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his own home. |
| 9 E tutto il popolo combattea in tutte le tribù d' Israel, e dicea: il re ci ha liberati dalle mani de' nostri nemici, ed egli ci salvò dalle mani de' Filistei; e ora è fuggito della terra per Assalom. | 9 And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "The king delivered us from the hand of our enemies, and saved us from the hand of the Philistines; and now he has fled out of the land from Absalom. |
| 10 Ma Assalom, il quale noi ugnemmo re sopra noi, sì è morto nella battaglia; perchè tacete? perchè non reducete il re? (E pervenne al re il consiglio di tutto Israel). | 10 But Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why do you say nothing about bringing the king back?" |
| 11 E mandò il re David a Sadoc e ad Abiatar sacerdoti, dicendo: favellate a' maggiori di Giuda per la nazione, e dicete: che è ciò, che siete ultimamente venuti a rimenar il re in casa sua? E al re era pervenuto il detto d' Israel (di volerlo ritornare) in casa sua. | 11 And King David sent this message to Zadok and Abiathar the priests, "Say to the elders of Judah, 'Why should you be the last to bring the king back to his house, when the word of all Israel has come to the king? |
| 12 (Però che il re avea detto al popolo): Voi siete miei fratelli, mie ossa e mia carne; perchè siete ultimamente venuti a rivocare il re? | 12 You are my kinsmen, you are my bone and my flesh; why then should you be the last to bring back the king?' |
| 13 E direte ad Amasa: non se' tu mia carne e mie ossa? Questo a me faccia Iddio, questo mi arrogia, se tu non sarai sempre nel mio cospetto maestro della cavalleria, in luogo di Ioab. | 13 And say to Amasa, 'Are you not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you are not commander of my army henceforth in place of Joab.'" |
| 14 E inchinò il cuore di tutti gli uomini di Giuda, come il cuore d' uno uomo; e mandarono dicendo al re: ritòrnati tu, e tutti i tuoi servi. | 14 And he swayed the heart of all the men of Judah as one man; so that they sent word to the king, "Return, both you and all your servants." |
| 15 E ritornò il re, e venne insino al Giordano, e tutto Giuda venne insino a Galgala, per farsi incontro al re, e per passargli il fiume. | 15 So the king came back to the Jordan; and Judah came to Gilgal to meet the king and to bring the king over the Jordan. |
| 16 E affrettossi Semei figliuolo di Gera, figliuolo di Iemini di Baurim; | 16 And Shime-i the son of Gera, the Benjaminite, from Bahurim, made haste to come down with the men of Judah to meet King David; |
| 17 con mille uomini di Beniamin, discese con quelli di Giuda rincontro al re David; e Siba servo di casa di Saul, e quindici suoi figliuoli e venti servi erano con esso lui; e rompendo il fiume Giordano dinanzi al re, | 17 and with him were a thousand men from Benjamin. And Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, with his fifteen sons and his twenty servants, rushed down to the Jordan before the king, |
| 18 passarono il guado, per passare il re, e per fare secondo il suo comandamento. E Semei figliuolo di Gera, disceso in terra dinanzi al re, avendo già passato il Giordano, | 18 and they crossed the ford to bring over the king's household, and to do his pleasure. And Shime-i the son of Gera fell down before the king, as he was about to cross the Jordan, |
| 19 disse a lui: signore mio, non mi reputare la mia iniquità, e non ti ricordare delle ingiurie del tuo servo, le quali ti fece il dì che tu uscisti di Ierusalem, e non le porre nel tuo cuore. | 19 and said to the king, "Let not my lord hold me guilty or remember how your servant did wrong on the day my lord the king left Jerusalem; let not the king bear it in mind. |
| 20 Però ch' io sono tuo servo, e riconosco il mio peccato; e però io sono venuto oggi il primo della casa di Iosef, discendendo incontro del mio signore. | 20 For your servant knows that I have sinned; therefore, behold, I have come this day, the first of all the house of Joseph to come down to meet my lord the king." |
| 21 E rispondendo Abisai figliuolo di Sarvia, disse: rimarrà egli per queste parole, che non sia morto Semei, il quale maledisse il cristo del Signore? | 21 Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered, "Shall not Shime-i be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD's anointed?" |
| 22 E David disse: che è a me e a voi, figliuoli di Sarvia? perchè volete voi essere a me oggi satanasso? sarà oggi morto uomo in Israel? non conosco io, che oggi sono stato fatto re sopra Israel? | 22 But David said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should this day be as an adversary to me? Shall any one be put to death in Israel this day? For do I not know that I am this day king over Israel?" |
| 23 E disse il re a Semei: non sarai morto. E giuroglielo. | 23 And the king said to Shime-i, "You shall not die." And the king gave him his oath. |
| 24 E Mifiboset figliuolo di Saul accorse a David, colla barba non rasa (e coi capelli non tonduti) e coi piedi non lavati; e non avea lavate le sue vestimenta, dal dì che il re era uscito (di Ierusalem) insino al dì della sua ritornata in pace. | 24 And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; he had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came back in safety. |
| 25 E accorrendo egli in Ierusalem al re, il re disse: Mifiboset, perchè non venisti meco? | 25 And when he came from Jerusalem to meet the king, the king said to him, "Why did you not go with me, Mephibosheth?" |
| 26 Ed egli respuose: signore mio re, il mio servo mi spregiò, però ch' io tuo servo gli dissi che apparecchiasse l'asino per cavalcare e andare con esso il re; però ch' io tuo servo sono zoppo. | 26 He answered, "My lord, O king, my servant deceived me; for your servant said to him, 'Saddle an ass for me, that I may ride upon it and go with the king.' For your servant is lame. |
| 27 E sopra tutto questo, egli m' hae accusato tuo servo a te, signore mio re; tu veramente, signore mio re, sei come angelo di Dio; fa quello ch' è (buono) nel tuo piacere. | 27 He has slandered your servant to my lord the king. But my lord the king is like the angel of God; do therefore what seems good to you. |
| 28 Però che la casa del padre mio non fu degna d'altro che di morte al signore re; e tu hai posto me tuo servo tra quelli che mangiano alla mensa tua: che ragione ho io di lamentarmi? o che posso più dire al re? | 28 For all my father's house were but men doomed to death before my lord the king; but you set your servant among those who eat at your table. What further right have I, then, to cry to the king?" |
| 29 E il re disse a lui: perchè favelli più? quello ch' io hoe detto è fermo; tu e Siba dividete le possessioni. | 29 And the king said to him, "Why speak any more of your affairs? I have decided: you and Ziba shall divide the land." |
| 30 E Mifiboset respuose al re: anche si tolla il tutto, da poi che il mio signore è ritornato in pace in casa sua. | 30 And Mephibosheth said to the king, "Oh, let him take it all, since my lord the king has come safely home." |
| 31 E Berzellai di Galaad (molto antico) discendente di Rogelim, passò il Giordano con esso il re, apparecchiato d'andare col re oltre il fiume. | 31 Now Barzillai the Gileadite had come down from Rogelim; and he went on with the king to the Jordan, to escort him over the Jordan. |
| 32 Ed era Berzellai di Galaad molto vecchio, di ottanta anni; ed egli diede al re la vittovaglia, quando era nella castella; però ch' egli era uomo molto ricco. | 32 Barzillai was a very aged man, eighty years old; and he had provided the king with food while he stayed at Mahanaim; for he was a very wealthy man. |
| 33 E disse il re a Berzellai: vieni, acciò che tu ti riposi sicuro meco in Ierusalem. | 33 And the king said to Barzillai, "Come over with me, and I will provide for you with me in Jerusalem." |
| 34 E Berzellai disse al re: e quanti sono gli anni della vita mia, ch' io vada col re in Ierusalem? | 34 But Barzillai said to the king, "How many years have I still to live, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem? |
| 35 Io n' hoe oggi ottanta; vivono egli gli miei sentimenti a discernere cosa soave o amara? o puote egli oggimai dilettare al tuo servo cibo nè bere? o posso io udire la voce de' cantori e delle cantatrici? perchè fosse il tuo servo grave al mio signore? | 35 I am this day eighty years old; can I discern what is pleasant and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats or what he drinks? Can I still listen to the voice of singing men and singing women? Why then should your servant be an added burden to my lord the king? |
| 36 Io verrò uno poco più oltre, servo tuo, [con te] dal Giordano; e' non mi bisogna d'essere così meritato. | 36 Your servant will go a little way over the Jordan with the king. Why should the king recompense me with such a reward? |
| 37 Ma io prego che il tuo servo si ritorni (e sanza che più oltre vegna), acciò ch' io mi muoia nella mia cittade, e ch' io sia seppellito presso al sepolcro del mio padre e della mia madre. Ed ecci il tuo (fratello) servo Camaa; vegna con esso teco, signore mio re, e fa a lui quello che buono ti pare. | 37 Pray let your servant return, that I may die in my own city, near the grave of my father and my mother. But here is your servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do for him whatever seems good to you." |
| 38 E disse il re: vegna meco Camaa, e io gli farò ciò piacerà a te; e ciò che tu mi comanderai, avrai da me. | 38 And the king answered, "Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do for him whatever seems good to you; and all that you desire of me I will do for you." |
| 39 E avendo passato tutto il popolo e il re il Giordano, il re (si fermò e) basciò Berzellai e benedisselo; ed egli ritornò nel luogo suo. | 39 Then all the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over; and the king kissed Barzillai and blessed him, and he returned to his own home. |
| 40 E il re passò in Galgala, e Camaa con esso lui; e tutto il popolo di Giuda avea transdutto il re, e solo la metà del popolo d' Israel era presente. | 40 The king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him; all the people of Judah, and also half the people of Israel, brought the king on his way. |
| 41 Onde tutti gli uomini d'Israel, correndo al re, dissero a lui: perchè t' hanno furato gli nostri fratelli di Giuda, e hanno transdutto il re e la sua casa il Giordano, e tutti gli uomini di David con lui? | 41 Then all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, "Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen you away, and brought the king and his household over the Jordan, and all David's men with him?" |
| 42 E ogni uomo di Giuda respuose agli uomini d' Israel: però che il re è più appresso a me; perchè ti turbi di questo? abbiamo noi però mangiato nulla di quello del re, ovvero fatto è alcuno dono a noi per questo? | 42 All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, "Because the king is near of kin to us. Why then are you angry over this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king's expense? Or has he given us any gift?" |
| 43 E gli uomini d' Israel respuosero a quelli di Giuda e dissero io sono maggiore di te appo il re dieci parti (e sono il primogenito), e a me appartiene il re più che a te; perchè m' hai fatto ingiuria, e non mi fu significato prima, acciò ch' io riducessi il re mio? E gli uomini di Giuda respuosero più duramente agli uomini d' Israel. | 43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, "We have ten shares in the king, and in David also we have more than you. Why then did you despise us? Were we not the first to speak of bringing back our king?" But the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel. |
