| 1 E conoscendo Ioab figliuolo di Sarvia, che il cuore di David era convertito ad Assalom, | 1 Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart went out to Absalom. |
| 2 mandò a Tecua, e tolse indi una savia femina, e disse a lei: infìgniti di piagnere, e vèstiti di vestimenta di pianto, e non ti ugnere d'olio, acciò che tu appari sì come femina che molto tempo pianga morto. | 2 And Joab sent to Tekoa, and fetched from there a wise woman, and said to her, "Pretend to be a mourner, and put on mourning garments; do not anoint yourself with oil, but behave like a woman who has been mourning many days for the dead; |
| 3 Ed entrerai al re, e dira'gli queste parole. E Ioab gli disse le parole. | 3 and go to the king, and speak thus to him." So Joab put the words in her mouth. |
| 4 Ed essendo entrata al re quella femina di Tecua, cadde in terra dinanzi al re, e disse: salvami, re. | 4 When the woman of Tekoa came to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and did obeisance, and said, "Help, O king." |
| 5 E il re disse a lei che cagione n' hai (femina)? Ed ella respuose: Omè! io sono una femina vedova; il mio marito morìo. | 5 And the king said to her, "What is your trouble?" She answered, "Alas, I am a widow; my husband is dead. |
| 6 E la serva tua avea due figliuoli, li quali s'azzuffarono nel campo, e non era persona che gli potesse dividere; onde che l'uno percosse l'altro, e ucciselo. | 6 And your handmaid had two sons, and they quarreled with one another in the field; there was no one to part them, and one struck the other and killed him. |
| 7 E tutto il parentado si levò contro la tua serva, e dice: dacci colui che ha morto il suo fratello, che uccidiamo lui per l'anima del fratello il quale egli uccise, e togliamo via lo erede; e cercano di spegnere quello poco lume che m' è rimaso, acciò che al mio marito non rimanga nome nè reliquia sopra la terra. | 7 And now the whole family has risen against your handmaid, and they say, 'Give up the man who struck his brother, that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he slew'; and so they would destroy the heir also. Thus they would quench my coal which is left, and leave to my husband neither name nor remnant upon the face of the earth." |
| 8 E disse il re alla femina: vattene alla tua casa, e io comanderò per te. | 8 Then the king said to the woman, "Go to your house, and I will give orders concerning you." |
| 9 E la femina di Tecua disse al re: signore mio, questa iniquità sia in me e in casa del padre mio, e il re e la sedia sua innocente. | 9 And the woman of Tekoa said to the king, "On me be the guilt, my lord the king, and on my father's house; let the king and his throne be guiltless." |
| 10 E il re disse: qualunque persona ti contraddice, menala a me, e farò che non ti toccherà più. | 10 The king said, "If any one says anything to you, bring him to me, and he shall never touch you again." |
| 11 Ed ella disse: ricordisi il re del suo Signore Iddio, acciò che non moltiplichinsi gli prossimi a fare la vendetta, e non uccidano il figliuolo mio. Il quale disse: vive il Signore, che de' capegli del tuo figliuolo non ne cadrà uno in terra. | 11 Then she said, "Pray let the king invoke the LORD your God, that the avenger of blood slay no more, and my son be not destroyed." He said, "As the LORD lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground." |
| 12 E disse la femina: piacciati che la tua serva favelli al mio signore. E' disse: di'. | 12 Then the woman said, "Pray let your handmaid speak a word to my lord the king." He said, "Speak." |
| 13 E la femina disse: perchè hai tu pensata così fatta cosa contra il popolo di Dio? e ha detto il re parola di peccato, e non revoca il suo reietto? | 13 And the woman said, "Why then have you planned such a thing against the people of God? For in giving this decision the king convicts himself, inasmuch as the king does not bring his banished one home again. |
| 14 Noi moriamo tutti, e come l'acqua sopra la terra scorremo, la quale non ritorna; e non vuole Iddio, che persona perisca; ma retratta, pensando che quello che è iscacciato non perisca in tutto. | 14 We must all die, we are like water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; but God will not take away the life of him who devises means not to keep his banished one an outcast. |
| 15 E imperò venni, e favellerò al re mio signore, presente il popolo. E disse la serva tua: io favellarò al re, s'egli forse facesse la parola della sua ancilla. | 15 Now I have come to say this to my lord the king because the people have made me afraid; and your handmaid thought, 'I will speak to the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his servant. |
| 16 E audì il re la serva sua, volendola liberar delle mani di tutti coloro che mi voleano togliere via della eredità di Dio, e il mio figliuolo con meco insieme. | 16 For the king will hear, and deliver his servant from the hand of the man who would destroy me and my son together from the heritage of God.' |
| 17 Onde dica la tua ancilla, che la parola del signore mio re sia fatta sì come sacrificio. Però che il mio signore re si è come l'angelo di Dio, che non si muove per [benedizione nè per] maledizione; però il tuo Signore è teco. | 17 And your handmaid thought, 'The word of my lord the king will set me at rest'; for my lord the king is like the angel of God to discern good and evil. The LORD your God be with you!" |
| 18 E respondendo il re, disse alla femina: non mi celare quello di che io ti addimanderò. Ed ella disse: [parla], signore mio. | 18 Then the king answered the woman, "Do not hide from me anything I ask you." And the woman said, "Let my lord the king speak." |
| 19 E il re disse: è la mano di Joab teco in tutte queste cose? E quella respuose, e disse: per la salute dell' anima tua, signore mio re, che nè da parte sinistra nè diritta è nulla di quello che detto ha il mio signore; però che il servo tuo Ioab mi comandò, ed egli puose nella bocca della tua serva tutte queste parole. | 19 The king said, "Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?" The woman answered and said, "As surely as you live, my lord the king, one cannot turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has said. It was your servant Joab who bade me; it was he who put all these words in the mouth of your handmaid. |
| 20 Ch'io volgessi la figura di questo sermone, il servo tuo Ioab comandò questo: e tu re, signore mio, se'savio, come ha sapienza l'angelo di Dio, a conoscere tutte le cose sopra la terra. | 20 In order to change the course of affairs your servant Joab did this. But my lord has wisdom like the wisdom of the angel of God to know all things that are on the earth." |
| 21 E disse il re a Ioab: ecco ch' io, riposato, hoe udite ed esaudite le tue parole; e però va e revoca il giovane Assalom. | 21 Then the king said to Joab, "Behold now, I grant this; go, bring back the young man Absalom." |
| 22 E cadendo Ioab sopra il suo viso in terra, adorò e benedisse il re; e disse Ioab: oggi ha conosciuto il tuo servo, ch' io hoe trovata grazia negli occhii tuoi, signore mio re; perchè hae esaudita la parola del tuo servo. | 22 And Joab fell on his face to the ground, and did obeisance, and blessed the king; and Joab said, "Today your servant knows that I have found favor in your sight, my lord the king, in that the king has granted the request of his servant." |
| 23 E levossi Ioab, e andossene in Gessur, e rimenò Assalom in Ierusalem. | 23 So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem. |
| 24 E disse il re: ritornisi in casa sua, e non veggia il mio viso. E Assalom ritornò in casa sua, e non vidde la faccia del re. | 24 And the king said, "Let him dwell apart in his own house; he is not to come into my presence." So Absalom dwelt apart in his own house, and did not come into the king's presence. |
| 25 E in tutto Israel non era così bello uomo come Assalom, e formoso troppo, dalla pianta del piede insino. alla sommità del capo; e non era in lui alcuna macula. | 25 Now in all Israel there was no one so much to be praised for his beauty as Absalom; from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him. |
| 26 E quando si tondea i capegli, li quali tondea una volta l'anno, però che gli aggravava la zazzera, pesavano i suoi capegli a pubblico peso ducento sicli. | 26 And when he cut the hair of his head (for at the end of every year he used to cut it; when it was heavy on him, he cut it), he weighed the hair of his head, two hundred shekels by the king's weight. |
| 27 E nacquero ad Assalom tre figliuoli; e una figliuola, la quale ebbe nome Tamar, di bella forma. | 27 There were born to Absalom three sons, and one daughter whose name was Tamar; she was a beautiful woman. |
| 28 E istette Assalom in Ierusalem due anni, e non vidde la faccia del re. | 28 So Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, without coming into the king's presence. |
| 29 E mandò a Ioab per mandarlo al re, il quale non volse andare a lui; e mandato la seconda volta per lui, ed eglì non andò a lui. | 29 Then Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king; but Joab would not come to him. And he sent a second time, but Joab would not come. |
| 30 Disse ai servi suoi: sapete voi il campo di Ioab presso al campo mio, il quale è pieno d' orzo? andate, e ardetelo. E arsero gli servi di Assalom quella biada. E vennero gli servi di Ioab colle vestimenta squarciate, e dissero: gli servi di Assalom hanno arso una parte del campo. | 30 Then he said to his servants, "See, Joab's field is next to mine, and he has barley there; go and set it on fire." So Absalom's servants set the field on fire. |
| 31 E Ioab si levò, e andò a casa di Assalom, e disse a lui perchè gli servi tuoi hanno arso il mio biado? | 31 Then Joab arose and went to Absalom at his house, and said to him, "Why have your servants set my field on fire?" |
| 32 E respuose Assalom a Ioab: io ti mandai pregando che tu venissi a me per mandarti al re, e perchè tu dicesti a lui; perchè venni io di Gessur? egli m'era meglio essere ivi; onde io priego ch' io possa vedere la faccia del re; e s' egli si ricorda della mia iniquità, uccidami. | 32 Absalom answered Joab, "Behold, I sent word to you, 'Come here, that I may send you to the king, to ask, "Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still." Now therefore let me go into the presence of the king; and if there is guilt in me, let him kill me.'" |
| 33 Ed entrato Ioab al re, dissegli queste cose; e chiamato Assalom, entrò al re, e adorò in terra dinanzi a lui; e il re basciò Assalom. | 33 Then Joab went to the king, and told him; and he summoned Absalom. So he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king; and the king kissed Absalom. |
