1 Тоді Ісус покликав рувимлян, гадіїв і півколіна Манассії,	1 Joshua then summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh
2 і до них мовив: «Ви допильнували все, що заповідав вам Мойсей, слуга Господній, і слухалися мого голосу в усьому, що я був велів вам.	2 and said to them, 'You have observed everything that Moses, servant of Yahweh, ordered you, andwhenever I have given you an order you have listened to me.
3 За такий довгий час аж по цей день ви не покидали братів ваших і вірно додержували заповіді Господа, Бога вашого.	3 You have not deserted your brothers, from long ago until today, keeping the observance of thecommandment of Yahweh your God.
4 І оце тепер, коли Господь, Бог ваш, дав спокій братам вашим, як був обітував їм, повертайтесь та йдіть собі до наметів ваших, у землю вашого наділу, що його Мойсей, слуга Господній, дав вам по тім боці Йордану.	4 Now that Yahweh your God has granted your brothers the rest that he promised them, go back to yourtents, to the country belonging to you which Moses, servant of Yahweh, gave you on the other side of theJordan.
5 Але вельми пильнуйте, щоб виконували заповіт і закон, що заповідав вам Мойсей, слуга Господній: любити Господа, Бога вашого, ходити всіма його путями, пильнувати заповіді його, триматись його міцно та служити йому всім вашим серцем і всією вашою душею.»	5 But take great care to practise the commandments and the Law which Moses, servant of Yahweh, hasgiven you: to love Yahweh your God, always to follow his paths, to keep his commandments, to be loyal to himand to serve him with al your heart and with al your soul.'
6 Ісус поблагословив їх та й відпустив, і вони пішли до своїх наметів.	6 Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went home to their tents.
7 Одній половині коліна Манассії дав Мойсей наділ у Башані, а другій дав Ісус разом з їхніми братами по цей бік Йордану, на захід. А коли відпускав їх Ісус до їх наметів, то поблагословив їх,	7 To one half of the tribe of Manasseh, Moses had given a territory in Bashan; to the other half, Joshuagave another among their brothers on the west bank of the Jordan. As Joshua sent them home to their tents, heblessed them
8 і сказав їм: «З великими скарбами, з дуже великими стадами, з сріблом і золотом, з міддю й залізом і безліччю одежі вертаєтесь ви до наметів ваших; розділіть же здобич ворогів ваших з вашими братами.»	8 and said to them, 'You are going back to your tents with great wealth, with a great deal of livestock,with silver and gold, bronze and iron and great quantities of clothing; share the spoils of your enemies with yourbrothers.'
9 Тож вертаючись додому, сини Рувима, сини Гада й півколіно Манассії двигнулися від синів Ізраїля з Шіло, що в Ханаан-землі, щоб іти в Гілеад-землю, у належний їм наділ, яким заволоділи були за Господнім повелінням через Мойсея.	9 The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned home, leaving the Israelites atShiloh in Canaan, and made for Gilead, the territory which belonged to them as a result of Yahweh's order giventhrough Moses.
10 Як же сини Рувима, сини Гада й півколіна Манассії прийшли в край коло Йордану, що був у Ханаан-землі, збудували вони там над Йорданом жертовник, і то величний на вигляд.	10 When they came to the stone circle by the Jordan, in Canaanite territory, the Reubenites, the Gaditesand the half-tribe of Manasseh built an altar there beside the Jordan, a large, imposing altar.
11 Почули сини Ізраїля, як інші говорили: «Он сини Рувима, сини Гада та півколіно Манассії збудували жертовник навпроти Ханаан-землі, в краю над Йорданом, по стороні, приналежній до синів Ізраїля.»	11 This came to the ears of the Israelites. 'Look,' the word went round, 'the Reubenites, the Gadites andthe half-tribe of Manasseh have built this altar on the Canaanite side, near the stone circle by the Jordan, on theIsraelites' bank.'
12 Довідавшись про це, зібралась у Шіло вся громада синів Ізраїля, щоб іти на них війною.	12 At this news, the whole community of the Israelites mustered at Shiloh, to march against them andmake war on them.
13 Але наперед сини Ізраїля послали були до синів Рувима, синів Гада й півколіна Манассії в Гілеад-землю Пінхаса, сина священика Єлеазара,	13 The Israelites sent the priest Phinehas son of Eleazar to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in Gilead,
14 й десять князів з ним, по одному з кожного коліна всіх синів Ізраїля, а кожен з них був головою свого батьківського роду між тисячами Ізраїля.	14 and with him ten leading men, one man from a leading family from each of the tribes of Israel, each ofthem being head of his family in the clans of Israel.
15 Прийшли вони до синів Рувима, до синів Гада та до півколіна Манассії в Гілеад-землю й ось як до них промовили:	15 Having reached the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, they said this:
16 «Так каже вся громада Господня: Що це за зрада, що ви вчинили проти Бога Ізраїля, відвернувшися сьогодні від Господа й спорудивши собі жертовник, щоб бунтуватися сьогодні проти Господа?	16 'The whole community of Israel says as fol ows, "What do you mean by this infidelity, which you havecommitted against the God of Israel by now repudiating your al egiance to Yahweh, and by building yourselvesan altar with the intention now of rebel ing against Yahweh?
17 Хіба нам мало провини в Пеорі, від якої ми не очистились і досі, й тієї кари, що спіткала громаду Господню,	17 "Was the crime which we committed at Peor so slight -- although we have not managed to purifyourselves from that even now, in spite of the plague which has ravaged the community of Yahweh-
18 що ви ще й сьогодні відвертаєтесь від Господа? Бож, коли ви сьогодні повстаєте проти Господа, то взавтра він розгнівається на всю громаду Ізраїля.	18 that you must now repudiate your al egiance to Yahweh? For since you are in rebellion against himtoday, tomorrow his anger will be aroused against the whole community of Israel.
19 Якщо ж належна вам земля здається нечистою, то перейдіть у землю, що належить Господеві, де перебуває намет Господній і беріть посілість поміж нами, але проти Господа не повставайте та й нас до бунту не втручайте, споруджуючи собі окремий жертовник, окрім жертовника Господа, Бога нашого.	19 "Is the country in which you have settled unclean? Then cross over into the country where Yahwehhas settled, there where Yahweh's Dwel ing now stands, and settle among us. But do not rebel against Yahwehor involve us in your rebel ion by building a rival altar to the altar of Yahweh our God.
20 Хіба не впав гнів Господній на всю громаду Ізраїля, коли Ахан, син Зераха, тяжко провинився, зазіхнувши на прокляте добро? Дарма що був один; а не тільки він один згинув за свій гріх.»	20 When Achan son of Zerah was unfaithful to the curse of destruction, did not the retribution comedown on the whole community of Israel, although he was only one man? Did he not have to die for his crime?" '
21 Тоді сини Рувима, сини Гада й півколіна Манассії відповіли головам тисяч Ізраїля:	21 The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh spoke in their turn and answered theheads of the clans of Israel:
22 «Бог, Бог Господь! Бог, Бог Господь! Він це знає та й Ізраїль нехай це знає: коли воно сталося, щоб зчинити бунт або зраду проти Господа, нехай нас нині не врятує!	22 'The God of gods, Yahweh, the God of gods, Yahweh wel knows, and let Israel know it too: if therehas been rebellion or infidelity to Yahweh on our part, may he refuse to save us today!
23 Як ми спорудили собі жертовник, щоб відвернутись від Господа та щоб приносити на ньому всепалення й офіри, або на те, щоб приносити на ньому мирні жертви, хай сам Господь це розсудить!	23 And if we have built ourselves an altar with the intention of repudiating our al egiance to Yahweh andof presenting burnt offering and oblation or of offering communion sacrifices on it, may Yahweh himself call us to account for it!
24 Ні! ми тільки дбаючи й думаючи про те так вчинили, щоб ваші потомки колись не спитали наших: що, мовляв, вам таке Господь, Бог Ізраїля?	24 The truth is, we have done this as a precaution: in the future, your descendants might say to ours,"What connection do you have with Yahweh, God of Israel?
25 Таж Господь поклав границю між нами й вами, о сини Рувима і сини Гада, — Йордан. Нема для вас ніякої частки в Господі. І таким чином ваші потомки відопхнули б наших потомків від почитаня Господа.	25 Has not Yahweh set the frontier of the Jordan between us and you, you Reubenites and Gadites?You have no share in Yahweh." Thus, your descendants would be the cause of stopping ours from fearingYahweh.
26 Тому й нарадились ми: от що вчинімо: спорудьмо собі жертовник, не для всепалень, не для жертв,	26 'So we said to each other, "Let us build this altar, not for burnt offerings or other sacrifices
27 але щоб він був свідком між нами й вами та між нашими після нас потомками, що ми хочемо почитати Господа в його приявності нашими всепаленнями, нашими кривавими жертвами й нашими мирними жертвами та щоб ваші потомки колись нашим потомкам не казали: Немає вам ніякої частини в Господі.	27 but as a witness between us and you and between our descendants after us, attesting that we toohave the right to worship Yahweh, in his presence, with our burnt offerings, our victims and our communionsacrifices. And so, in the future your descendants wil not be able to say to ours: You have no share in Yahweh."
28 Тому й думали ми: якщо вони колись казатимуть таке нам або нашим потомкам, ми відповімо: Дивіться на подобу жертовника Господнього, що зробили батьки наші, не для всепалення й не для кривавих жертв, ні! — а на те тільки, щоб він був свідком між нами і вами.	28 And we furthermore said, "If ever it were to happen that they did say this either to us or to ourdescendants in the future, we should reply: Look at this structure, Yahweh's altar, made by our ancestors not forburnt offerings or other sacrifices but as a witness between us and you."
29 Хай не буде цього в нас довіку, щоб ми повставали проти Господа чи відверталися від Господа сьогодні, будуючи жертовник для всепалення, для офіри та для кривавих жертв, крім жертовника Господа, Бога нашого, що стоїть перед його наметом.»	29 Far be it from us to rebel against Yahweh or now to repudiate our allegiance to Yahweh by buildingan altar for burnt offerings or oblations or sacrifices, in rivalry with the altar of Yahweh our God that standsbefore his Dwel ing!'
30 Пінхас священик і князі громадські та голови тисяч Ізраїля, що були з ним, почувши слова, що промовляли сини Рувима, сини Гада та сини Манассії, задовольнились тим.	30 When the priest Phinehas, the leaders of the community and the heads of the clans of Israel whowere with him, heard the words spoken by the Gadites, the Reubenites and the Manassehites, they approved ofthem.
31 І мовив Пінхас, син Єлеазара священика, до синів Рувима, синів Гада та синів Манассії: «Сьогодні ми переконалися, що Господь перебуває між вами, бо ви не вчинили цієї проти Господа зради. Цим вирятували ви синів Ізраїля від руки Господньої.»	31 The priest Phinehas son of Eleazar then said to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites,'Today, we can see that Yahweh is among us, since you have not been unfaithful to Yahweh in this matter; thismeans that you have spared the Israelites from Yahweh's avenging hand.'
32 Повернувсь тоді Пінхас, син Єлеазара священика, й князі назад із Гілеад-землі від синів Рувима та синів Гада в Ханаан-землю до синів Ізраїля й вияснили вони їм справу.	32 The priest Phinehas son of Eleazar and the leaders left the Reubenites and the Gadites and wentback from Gilead to Canaan and the Israelites, to whom they reported the answer.
33 Сини Ізраїля вдовольнились і благословили Бога й не думали більше про те, щоб іти на них війною, щоб спустошити край, де осілись сини Рувима та сини Гада.	33 The Israelites were pleased to hear this; the Israelites gave thanks to God and spoke no more ofmarching against them to make war on them and to ravage the country inhabited by the Reubenites and theGadites.
34 І назвали сини Рувима й сини Гада жертовник «Ед», бо він, мовляв, свідкує між нами, що Господь — є Бог.	34 The Reubenites and the Gadites cal ed the altar . . . , 'Because', they said, 'it wil be a witnessbetween us that Yahweh is God.'
