Біблія	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ти ж, мій сину, зміцнюйся у благодаті, що в Христі Ісусі.	1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.
2 А що ти чув від мене при багатьох свідках, те передай вірним людям, які будуть здібні інших теж навчити.	2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.
3 Отож, перенось труди й ти, як добрий воїн Христа Ісуса.	3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 Ніхто, бувши воїном, не втручається у справи життя цього, якщо хоче догодити тому, хто його найняв на службу.	4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;
5 І коли хтось бореться, то не отримує вінка, якщо не бореться законно.	5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;
6 Рільникові, що працює, належиться першому користатися з плодів.	6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.
7 Збагни, що я говорю, а Господь дасть тобі розуміння у всьому.	7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.
8 Пам’ятай про Ісуса Христа, що воскрес із мертвих, з роду Давида, згідно з моєю Євангелією,	8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';
9 за яку я страждаю аж до кайданів, немов злочинець. Та слова Божого зв’язати не можливо.	9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.
10 Тому я все терплю ради вибраних, щоб і вони осягли спасіння, що в Христі Ісусі, з вічною славою.	10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 Вірне слово: Коли ми з ним померли, то разом з ним будемо й жити.	11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.
12 Коли страждаємо, то з ним будемо й царювати. Коли його зрікаємося, то й він зречеться нас.	12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.
13 Коли не віруємо, він зостається вірним, бо сам себе зректися не може.	13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.
14 Про це нагадуй, заклинаючи перед Богом, щоб не сперечалися словами, — річ, ні на що непотрібна, хібащо слухачам на руїну!	14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.
15 Старайся виявити себе перед Богом випробуваним робітником, який не має чого червоніти, який добре настановлює словом правди.	15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.
16 А порожніх та нечестивих суперечок уникай, бо вони все більше провадять до безбожности,	16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.
17 і слово їхнє, немов пістряк, буде ширитися далі. До них належить Гіменей і Філіт,	17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 які відхилилися від правди, говоривши, мовляв, воскресіння вже було, і тим руйнують віру в деяких.	18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.
19 Однак, стоїть міцна Божа основа, що має ось яку печатку: «Господь знає своїх», і — «Нехай відступить від неправди кожен, хто Господнє ім’я визнає».	19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'
20 А у великім домі є не тільки золотий та срібний посуд, але й дерев’яний та глиняний; інший на честь, а інший на нечестя.	20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.
21 Отже, як хтось очиститься від цього, буде посудом на честь, освяченим, корисним для господаря, готовим на всяке добре діло.	21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.
22 Утікай від пристрастей юнацьких; шукай справедливости, віри, любови, мира — разом з тими, що прикликають Господа чистим серцем.	22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.
23 А від дурних та безглуздих питань ухиляйся: сам бо знаєш, що вони породжують сварки.	23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;
24 Слузі ж Господньому слід бути не сварливим, а до всіх привітним, здібним навчати, терпеливим,	24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.
25 лагідно картаючим тих, що спротивляються; може Бог дасть їм колись покаяння, щоб вони спізнали правду	25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth
26 і виплуталися з тенет диявола, який схопив їх у полон — виконувати його волю.	26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.
