1 Onora il medico per la necessitade; certo Iddio il creoe.	1 Hold the physician in honor, for he is essential to you, and God it was who established his profession.
2 Ogni medicina è da Dio, e dal re riceverà dono.	2 From God the doctor has his wisdom, and the king provides for his sustenance.
3 La disciplina del medico, esaltoe il capo del medico, e nel cospetto de' grandi uomini fia laudato.	3 His knowledge makes the doctor distinguished, and gives him access to those in authority.
4 L' Altissimo creoe le medicine di terra, e il savio uomo non averà quelle medicine in orrore.	4 God makes the earth yield healing herbs which the prudent man should not neglect;
5 Or non è l'acqua amara fatta dolce dal legno?	5 Was not the water sweetened by a twig that men might learn his power?
6 E fu data al conoscimento delli uomini la virtude delle medicine (di quelle cose s' appartiene); e l' Altissimo diede la scienza alli uomini, per essere onorato nelle sue maraviglie.	6 He endows men with the knowledge to glory in his mighty works,
7 Con queste cose il medico mitiga la doglia, e l' unguentario farà (d' esse) unguenti di soavitade, e comporranne unzioni di sanitade; e non si finiranno l' opere sue.	7 Through which the doctor eases pain and the druggist prepares his medicines;
8 La pace di Dio sopra la faccia della terra.	8 Thus God's creative work continues without cease in its efficacy on the surface of the earth.
9 Figliuolo, nella tua infermitade non dispregiare te medesimo; ma adora Iddio, acciò ch' egli ti guarisca.	9 My son, when you are ill, delay not, but pray to God, who will heal you:
10 Partiti dal peccato, e dirizza le tue mani, e monda il cuore tuo da ogni peccato.	10 Flee wickedness; let your hands be just, cleanse your heart of every sin;
11 Dà soavitade e memoria di oblazione, e ingrassa l'offerta, e dà luogo al medico;	11 Offer your sweet-smelling oblation and petition, a rich offering according to your means.
12 però che Iddio il creoe; e non si parta da te, però che le opere sue sono necessarie.	12 Then give the doctor his place lest he leave; for you need him too.
13 Egli è tempo, che tu corri nelle mani loro.	13 There are times that give him an advantage,
14 E loro pregheranno Iddio, che ti dirizzi il riposo loro, e la sanitade (tua) per la loro conversazione (teco).	14 and he too beseeches God That his diagnosis may be correct and his treatment bring about a cure.
15 Chi pecca nel cospetto di colui che il fece, caderae nelle mani del medico.	15 He who is a sinner toward his Maker will be defiant toward the doctor.
16 Figliuolo, produci lacrime verso il morto, e sì come tu avessi infermitade comincia a piangere; e secondo la condizione cuopri il corpo di colui, e non disprezzare la sua sepoltura.	16 My son, shed tears for one who is dead with wailing and bitter lament; As is only proper, prepare the body, absent not yourself from his burial:
17 Per lo suo partimento amaramente porta il dolore di colui uno die, e consòlati per la tristizia.	17 Weeping bitterly, mourning fully, pay your tribute of sorrow, as he deserves,
18 E fa pianto, secondo il merito suo, uno die o due, per rimuover la mormorazione.	18 One or two days, to prevent gossip; then compose yourself after your grief,
19 Dalla tristizia viene tosto la morte, (e impedisce) e cuopre la virtù (vitale); e la tristizia del cuore ripiega la testa dell' uomo.	19 For grief can bring on an extremity and heartache destroy one's health.
20 La tristizia dimora nel ricusamento della consolazione; e la sostanza del povero sì è secondo il cuore suo.	20 Turn not your thoughts to him again; cease to recall him; think rather of the end.
21 Non darai in tristizia il cuore tuo; ma cacciala da te, e stiati a mente del fine.	21 Recall him not, for there is no hope of his return; it will not help him, but will do you harm.
22 E non lo ti dimenticare; però che non deve ritornare chi muore; e a costui non gioveresti niente, e te medesimo peggioreresti.	22 Remember that his fate will also be yours; for him it was yesterday, for you today.
23 Ricorditi della sentenza mia; però che così sarà di te; a me fu jeri, e a te fia oggi.	23 With the departed dead, let memory fade; rally your courage, once the soul has left.
24 (Al fine) fa riposare la memoria del morto nel riposo suo; e consola lui nello suscitamento della sua anima.	24 The scribe's profession increases his wisdom; whoever is free from toil can become a wise man.
25 Nota la sapienza nel tempo che tu starai in ozio; e chi scema nell' operare apprenderae la sapienza: però ch' elli si riempierae di sapienza	25 How can he become learned who guides the plow, who thrills in wielding the goad like a lance, Who guides the ox and urges on the bullock, and whose every concern is for cattle?
26 chi tiene l'aratro, e chi si gloria nello lanciotto, col pungitoio tocca i buoi, e conversa nell'opera di quelli, e il suo parlare è ne' figliuoli de' buoi.	26 His care is for plowing furrows, and he keeps a watch on the beasts in the stalls.
27 Il cuore suo darae a volgere gli solchi, il suo vegliare nello ingrassare delle vacche.	27 So with every engraver and designer who, laboring night and day, Fashions carved seals, and whose concern is to vary the pattern. His care is to produce a vivid impression, and he keeps watch till he finishes his design.
28 Così ogni maestro di legname e artefice, il quale lavora la notte come il die; colui che intaglia figure rilevate, e la sua sollecitudine è in variare dipinture; darae il cuore suo nella similitudine della pittura, e nella sua vigilia compie l'opera.	28 So with the smith standing near his anvil, forging crude iron. The heat from the fire sears his flesh, yet he toils away in the furnace heat. The clang of the hammer deafens his ears, His eyes are fixed on the tool he is shaping. His care is to finish his work, and he keeps watch till he perfects it in detail.
29 Così è il fabbro, tenendosi presso all' incudine, e considerando il lavoro del ferro; il vapore del fuoco arderae le carni sue, e nel calore della fornace combatte.	29 So with the potter sitting at his labor, revolving the wheel with his feet. He is always concerned for his products, and turns them out in quantity.
30 La voce del martello innuova li suoi orecchi, e l'occhio suo (intende e) cerca la somiglianza del vasello.	30 With his hands he molds the clay, and with his feet softens it. His care is for proper coloring, and he keeps watch on the fire of his kiln.
31 Il cuore suo darae nel compimento dell' opera, e la vigilia sua adornerae il difetto.	31 All these men are skilled with their hands, each one an expert at his own task;
32 Così è il pentolaio, sedendo all' opera sua, volgendo co' piedi suoi la ruota; il quale sta sempre in luogo solitario per l'opera sua, e sanza numero è ogni sua operazione.	32 Without them no city could be lived in, and wherever they stay, they need not hunger.
33 Col braccio suo formerae il luto, e dinanzi a' piedi suoi chinerae la forza sua.	33 They do not occupy the judge's bench, nor are they prominent in the assembly; They set forth no decisions or judgments, nor are they found among the rulers;
34 Il cuore suo darà per comperare le limature, e la sua vigilia monderae la fornace.	34 Yet they maintain God's ancient handiwork, and their concern is for exercise of their skill.
35 Tutti questi sperano nelle loro mani, e ciascuno è savio nell'arte sua.
36 Sanza tutti questi non si edificherae la cittade.
37 E non persevereranno, e non anderanno dentro, e non translateranno nella chiesa.
38 Non sederanno sopra la sedia del giudice, e non intenderanno il testamento del giudicio; manifestamente [non] faranno disciplina e giudicio, e non saranno trovati nelli proverbii.
39 Ma confermeranno la creatura del mondo; il priego di quelli si è nella operazione dell' arte, i quali prestano l'anima sua, agguadagnando nella legge dello Altissimo.
