BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Meglio un tozzo di pan secco in pace, che una casa piena di banchetti e di discordie.	1 Better a mouthful of dry bread with peace than a house fil ed with quarrelsome sacrifices.
2 Un servo saggio comanderà ai figli stolti, e dividerà l'eredità tra i fratelli.	2 A shrewd servant comes off better than an unworthy child, he will share the inheritance with thebrothers.
3 Come si prova, l'argento col fuoco e l'oro col crogiolo, così il Signore prova i cuori.	3 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold, but Yahweh for the testing of hearts!
4 Il malvagio obbedisce alla lingua iniqua, l'ingannatore dà retta a labbra menzognere.	4 An evil-doer pays heed to malicious talk, a liar listens to a slanderous tongue.
5 Chi disprezza il povero ne insulta il Creatore, e chi si rallegra dell'altrui rovina non rimarrà impunito.	5 To mock the poor is to insult the Creator, no one who laughs at distress wil go unpunished.
6 I figlioli dei figli son la corona dei vecchi, e i padri son la gloria dei figli.	6 The crown of the aged is their children's children; the children's glory is their father.
7 Non s'addice allo stolto il parlare sentenzioso, nè al principe un labbro menzognero.	7 Fine words do not become the foolish, false words become a prince stil less.
8 L'aspettativa d'un dono è gemma carissima, da qualunque lato si volge agisce con prudente intelligenza.	8 A gift works like a talisman for one who holds it: it brings prosperity at every turn.
9 Chi cela i falli s'acquista amicizie, chi li dice e li ridice mette discordie tra gli amici.	9 Whoever covers an offence promotes love, whoever again raises the matter divides friends.
10 Fa più una correzione all'uomo prudente che cento colpi all'insensato.	10 A reproof makes more impression on a person of understanding than a hundred strokes on a fool.
11 Il malvagio cerca sempre litigi; ma l'angelo crudele sarà spedito contro di lui.	11 The wicked person thinks of nothing but rebellion, but a cruel messenger wil be sent to such a one.
12 E' meglio imbattersi in un'orsa a cui siano stati rapiti gli orsacchiotti, che incontrarsi con un insensato, il quale confida nella sua follia.	12 Rather come on a bear robbed of her cubs than on a fool in his fol y.
13 Chi rende mah? per il bene non vedrà mai partire da casa sua la sventura.	13 Disaster wil never be far from the house of one who returns evil for good.
14 Chi dà la stura alle acque comincia una contesa, avanti di patir dànno tronca la lite.	14 As well unleash a flood as start a dispute; desist before the quarrel breaks out.
15 Chi assolve il reo e chi condanna l'innocente, tutt'e due sono abbominevoli davanti a Dio.	15 To absolve the guilty and condemn the upright, both alike are abhorrent to Yahweh.
16 Che giova allo stolto avere ricchezze, se non può comprare la sapienza? Chi fa molto alta la sua casa cerca la rovina, chi ricusa d'imparare cadrà in guai.	16 What good is money in the hand of a fool? To buy wisdom with it? The desire is not there.
17 L'amico vuole bene in ogni tempo, e il fratello si prova nelle afflizioni.	17 A friend is a friend at all times, it is for adversity that a brother is born.
18 Un uomo insensato batterà le mani quando è restato mallevadore per un suo amico.	18 Whoever offers guarantees lacks sense and goes surety for a neighbour.
19 Chi medita discordie ama le risse, e chi alza molto la sua porta cerca la rovina.	19 The double-dealer loves sin, the proud courts ruin.
20 Chi è perverso di cuore non avrà bene, e chi è doppio di lingua cadrà in guai.	20 The tortuous of heart finds no happiness, the perverse of speech fal s into misery.
21 Lo stolto è nato per sua ignominia, ma nemmeno il padre ci troverà consolazione.	21 He who fathers a stupid child does so to his sorrow, the father of a fool knows no joy.
22 L'animo allegro rende l'età florida; lo spirito malinconico secca le ossa.	22 A glad heart is excel ent medicine, a depressed spirit wastes the bones away.
23 L'empio riceve di sottomano regali per sovvertire il corso della giustizia.	23 Under cover of his cloak a bad man takes a gift to pervert the course of justice.
24 Sulla faccia dell'uomo prudente brilla la sapienza, ma gli occhi dello stolto van fino ai confini del mondo.	24 The intelligent has wisdom there before him, but the eyes of a fool range to the ends of the earth.
25 Il figlio stolto è lo sdegno del padre e il dolore della madre che lo ha generato.	25 A foolish child is a father's sorrow, and the grief of her who gave the child birth.
26 Non sta bene danneggiare il giusto, nè percuotere il principe che giudica rettamente.	26 To fine the upright is indeed a crime, to strike the noble is an injustice.
27 Chi modera le sue parole è dotto e prudente, e l'uomo saggio è di spirito riservato.	27 Whoever can control the tongue knows what knowledge is, someone of understanding keeps a cooltemper.
28 Anche lo stolto, se tace, sarà stimato sapiente, e intelligente, se terrà chiuse le labbra.	28 If the fool holds his tongue, he may pass for wise; if he seals his lips, he may pass for intel igent.
