Livro dos Juízes 17

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Havia na montanha de Efraim um homem chamado Micas.	1 In the highlands of Ephraim there was a man cal ed Micayehu.
2 Ele disse {um dia} à sua mãe: Os mil e cem siclos de prata que te roubaram e pelos quais lançaste uma maldição aos meus ouvidos, esse dinheiro está em meu poder; fui eu que os roubei. Sua mãe respondeu: Abençoado seja o meu filho pelo Senhor!	2 He said to his mother, 'The eleven hundred silver shekels which were taken from you and concerningwhich you uttered a curse, having said in my hearing . . . Look, I have got that silver. I was the one who took it.'His mother said, 'May Yahweh bless my boy!'
3 Devolveu, pois, os mil e cem siclos de prata à sua mãe, que lhe disse: Da minha mão eu os consagro ao Senhor a favor de meu filho, para que se faça deles um ídolo fundido. Toma: ei-los aqui.	3 He gave the eleven hundred shekels back to his mother, who said, 'I have indeed vowed to give thissilver to Yahweh for my son, to have a statue carved and an idol cast in metal, but now I should like to give itback to you.' He, however, returned the money to his mother.
4 Micas entregou o dinheiro à sua mãe e ela tomou duzentos siclos de prata que mandou entregar ao fundidor. Fez o ourives com essa prata um ídolo fundido, que foi colocado na casa de Micas.	4 His mother then took two hundred silver shekels and gave them to the metalworker. With them, hecarved a statue (and cast an idol in metal) which was put in Micayehu's house.
5 E Micas teve, assim, uma capela; mandou fazer um efod e uns terafim e consagrou um de seus filhos para servir-lhe de sacerdote.	5 This man Micah owned a shrine; he made an ephod and some domestic images, and instal ed one ofhis sons to be his priest.
6 Naquele tempo não havia rei em Israel, e cada um fazia o que lhe parecia melhor.	6 In those days there was no king in Israel, and everyone did as he saw fit.
7 Ora, aconteceu que um adolescente de Belém de Judá, da tribo de Judá {o qual era levita, e morava ali},	7 There was a young man of Bethlehem in Judah, of the clan of Judah, who was a Levite and residedthere as a stranger.
8 partiu da cidade de Belém de Judá para procurar uma morada. Seguindo o seu caminho, chegou à montanha de Efraim, à casa de Micas.	8 This man left the town of Bethlehem in Judah to settle wherever he could find a home. On his travelshe came to the highlands of Ephraim and to Micah's house.
9 De onde vens?, perguntou-lhe este. De Belém de Judá, respondeu o levita, e viajo em busca de um lugar onde me fixar.	9 Micah asked him, 'Where do you come from?' The other replied, 'I am a Levite from Bethlehem inJudah. I am travel ing, and am going to settle wherever I can find a home.'
10 Micas disse-lhe: Fica comigo. Serás para mim um pai e um sacerdote; dar-te-ei dez siclos de prata por ano, vestes suficientes e alimento.	10 Micah said to him, 'Stay here with me; be my father and priest and I shal give you ten silver shekelsa year, and clothing and food.'
11 O jovem levita condescendeu em habitar na casa daquele homem, que o tratou como um de seus filhos.	11 The Levite agreed to remain in the man's house, and the young man became like one of his sons tohim.
12 Micas pô-lo em suas funções e o jovem serviu-lhe de sacerdote, residindo em sua própria casa.	12 Micah installed the Levite; the young man became Micah's priest and stayed in his house.
13 Agora, disse Micas, estou seguro de que o Senhor me abençoará, tendo eu esse levita por sacerdote.	13 And Micah said, 'Now I know that Yahweh will treat me wel , since I have this Levite as priest.'
