Deponde, pois, toda malícia, toda astúcia, fingimentos, invejas e toda espécie de maledicência.1 So put away all malice and all guile and insincerity and envy and all slander.
as newborn babes desire earnestly the pure mental milk of the word, that by it ye may grow up to salvation,2 Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation;
if indeed ye have tasted that the Lord {is} good.3 for you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
yourselves also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.4 Come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God's sight chosen and precious;
Because it is contained in the scripture: Behold, I lay in Zion a corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believes on him shall not be put to shame.5 and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
To you therefore who believe {is} the preciousness; but to the disobedient, the stone which the builders cast away as worthless, this is become head of {the} corner,6 For it stands in scripture: "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame."
and a stone of stumbling and rock of offence; {who} stumble at the word, being disobedient to which also they have been appointed.7 To you therefore who believe, he is precious, but for those who do not believe, "The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner,"
But *ye* {are} a chosen race, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a people for a possession, that ye might set forth the excellencies of him who has called you out of darkness to his wonderful light;8 and "A stone that will make men stumble, a rock that will make them fall"; for they stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
who once {were} not a people, but now God?s people; who were not enjoying mercy, but now have found mercy.9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Beloved, I exhort {you}, as strangers and sojourners, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;10 Once you were no people but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy.
having your conversation honest among the Gentiles, that {as to that} in which they speak against you as evildoers, they may through {your} good works, {themselves} witnessing {them}, glorify God in {the} day of visitation.11 Beloved, I beseech you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh that wage war against your soul.
or to rulers as sent by him, for vengeance on evildoers, and praise to them that do well.12 Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.
Because so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye put to silence the ignorance of senseless men;13 Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme,
as free, and not as having liberty as a cloak of malice, but as God?s bondmen.14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right.
Shew honour to all, love the brotherhood, fear God, honour the king.15 For it is God's will that by doing right you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
Servants, {be} subject with all fear to your masters, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the ill-tempered.16 Live as free men, yet without using your freedom as a pretext for evil; but live as servants of God.
For this {is} acceptable, if one, for conscience sake towards God, endure griefs, suffering unjustly.17 Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
For what glory {is it}, if sinning and being buffeted ye shall bear {it}? but if, doing good and suffering, ye shall bear {it}, this is acceptable with God.18 Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to the kind and gentle but also to the overbearing.
For to this have ye been called; for Christ also has suffered for you, leaving you a model that ye should follow in his steps:19 For one is approved if, mindful of God, he endures pain while suffering unjustly.
who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth;20 For what credit is it, if when you do wrong and are beaten for it you take it patiently? But if when you do right and suffer for it you take it patiently, you have God's approval.
who, {when} reviled, reviled not again; {when} suffering, threatened not; but gave {himself} over into the hands of him who judges righteously;21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, in order that, being dead to sins, we may live to righteousness: by whose stripes ye have been healed.22 He committed no sin; no guile was found on his lips.
For ye were going astray as sheep, but have now returned to the shepherd and overseer of your souls.23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten; but he trusted to him who judges justly.
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.
