Epístola aos Hebreus 8

1 O ponto essencial do que acabamos de dizer é este: temos um Sumo Sacerdote, que está sentado à direita do trono da Majestade divina nos céus,	1 Now the main point in the things that have been stated is this: that we have so great a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of Majesty in the heavens,
2 Ministro do santuário e do verdadeiro tabernáculo, erigido pelo Senhor, e não por homens.	2 who is the minister of holy things, and of the true tabernacle, which was established by the Lord, not by man.
3 Todo pontífice é constituído para oferecer dons e sacrifícios. Portanto, é necessário que ele tenha algo para oferecer.	3 For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices. Therefore, it is necessary for him also to have something to offer.
4 Por conseguinte, se ele estivesse na terra, nem mesmo sacerdote seria, porque já existem aqui sacerdotes que têm a missão, de oferecer os dons prescritos pela lei.	4 And so, if he were upon the earth, he would not be a priest, since there would be others to offer gifts according to the law,
5 O culto que estes celebram é, aliás, apenas a imagem, sombra das realidades celestiais, como foi revelado a Moisés quando estava para construir o tabernáculo: Olha, foi-lhe dito, faze todas as coisas conforme o modelo que te foi mostrado no monte {Ex 25,40}.	5 gifts which serve as mere examples and shadows of the heavenly things. And so it was answered to Moses, when he was about to complete the tabernacle: “See to it,” he said, “that you make everything according to the example which was revealed to you on the mountain.”
6 Ao nosso Sumo Sacerdote, entretanto, compete ministério tanto mais excelente quanto ele é mediador de uma aliança mais perfeita, selada por melhores promessas.	6 But now he has been granted a better ministry, so much so that he is also the Mediator of a better testament, which has been confirmed by better promises.
7 Porque, se a primeira tivesse sido sem defeito, certamente não haveria lugar para outra.	7 For if the former one had been entirely without fault, then a place certainly would not have been sought for a subsequent one.
8 Ora, sem dúvida, há uma censura nestas palavras: Eis que virão dias - oráculo do Senhor - em que estabelecerei, com a casa de Israel e com a casa de Judá uma aliança nova.	8 For, finding fault with them, he says: “Behold, the days shall arrive, says the Lord, when I will consummate a New Testament over the house of Israel and the house of Judah,
9 Não coma a aliança que fiz com os seus pais no dia em que os tomei pela mão para tirá-los da terra do Egito. Como eles não permaneceram fiéis ao pacto, eu me desinteressei deles - oráculo do Senhor.	9 not according to the testament which I made with their fathers, on the day when I took them by the hand, so that I might lead them away from the land of Egypt. For they did not remain in my testament, and so I disregarded them, says the Lord.
10 Mas esta é a aliança que estabelecerei com a casa de Israel depois daqueles dias: imprimirei as minhas leis no seu espírito e as gravarei no seu coração. Eu serei seu Deus, e eles serão meu povo.	10 For this is the testament which I will set before the house of Israel, after those days, says the Lord. I will instill my laws in their minds, and I will inscribe my laws on their hearts. And so, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
11 Ninguém mais terá que ensinar a seu concidadão, ninguém a seu irmão, dizendo: "Conhece o Senhor", porque todos me conhecerão, desde o menor até o maior.	11 And they will not teach, each one his neighbor, and each one his brother, saying: ‘Know the Lord.’ For all shall know me, from the least, even to the greatest of them.
12 Eu lhes perdoarei as suas iniqüidades, e já não me lembrarei dos seus pecados {Jr 31,31-34}.	12 For I will forgive their iniquities, and I will no longer remember their sins.”
13 Se Deus fala de uma aliança nova é que ele declara antiquada a precedente. Ora, o que é antiquado e envelhecido está certamente fadado a desaparecer.	13 Now in saying something new, he has made the former old. But that which decays and grows old is close to passing away.
