Epístola aos Hebreus 8

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 O ponto essencial do que acabamos de dizer é este: temos um Sumo Sacerdote, que está sentado à direita do trono da Majestade divina nos céus,	1 The principal point of al that we have said is that we have a high priest of exactly this kind. He hastaken his seat at the right of the throne of divine Majesty in the heavens,
2 Ministro do santuário e do verdadeiro tabernáculo, erigido pelo Senhor, e não por homens.	2 and he is the minister of the sanctuary and of the true Tent which the Lord, and not any man, set up.
3 Todo pontífice é constituído para oferecer dons e sacrifícios. Portanto, é necessário que ele tenha algo para oferecer.	3 Every high priest is constituted to offer gifts and sacrifices, and so this one too must have something tooffer.
4 Por conseguinte, se ele estivesse na terra, nem mesmo sacerdote seria, porque já existem aqui sacerdotes que têm a missão, de oferecer os dons prescritos pela lei.	4 In fact, if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at al , since there are others who make theofferings laid down by the Law,
5 O culto que estes celebram é, aliás, apenas a imagem, sombra das realidades celestiais, como foi revelado a Moisés quando estava para construir o tabernáculo: Olha, foi-lhe dito, faze todas as coisas conforme o modelo que te foi mostrado no monte {Ex 25,40}.	5 though these maintain the service only of a model or a reflection of the heavenly realities; just asMoses, when he had the Tent to build, was warned by God who said: See that you work to the design that wasshown you on the mountain.
6 Ao nosso Sumo Sacerdote, entretanto, compete ministério tanto mais excelente quanto ele é mediador de uma aliança mais perfeita, selada por melhores promessas.	6 As it is, he has been given a ministry as far superior as is the covenant of which he is the mediator,which is founded on better promises.
7 Porque, se a primeira tivesse sido sem defeito, certamente não haveria lugar para outra.	7 If that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no room for a second one to replace it.
8 Ora, sem dúvida, há uma censura nestas palavras: Eis que virão dias - oráculo do Senhor - em que estabelecerei, com a casa de Israel e com a casa de Judá uma aliança nova.	8 And in fact God does find fault with them; he says: Look, the days are coming, the Lord declares, whenI will make a new covenant with the House of Israel and the House of Judah,
9 Não coma a aliança que fiz com os seus pais no dia em que os tomei pela mão para tirá-los da terra do Egito. Como eles não permaneceram fiéis ao pacto, eu me desinteressei deles - oráculo do Senhor.	9 but not a covenant like the one I made with their ancestors, the day I took them by the hand to bringthem out of Egypt, which covenant of mine they broke, and I too abandoned them, the Lord declares.
10 Mas esta é a aliança que estabelecerei com a casa de Israel depois daqueles dias: imprimirei as minhas leis no seu espírito e as gravarei no seu coração. Eu serei seu Deus, e eles serão meu povo.	10 No, this is the covenant I wil make with the House of Israel, when those days have come, the Lorddeclares: In their minds I shal plant my laws writing them on their hearts. Then I shall be their God, and theyshall be my people.
11 Ninguém mais terá que ensinar a seu concidadão, ninguém a seu irmão, dizendo: "Conhece o Senhor", porque todos me conhecerão, desde o menor até o maior.	11 There wil be no further need for each to teach his neighbour, and each his brother, saying 'Learn toknow the Lord!' No, they will al know me, from the least to the greatest,
12 Eu lhes perdoarei as suas iniqüidades, e já não me lembrarei dos seus pecados {Jr 31,31-34}.	12 since I shall forgive their guilt and never more call their sins to mind.
13 Se Deus fala de uma aliança nova é que ele declara antiquada a precedente. Ora, o que é antiquado e envelhecido está certamente fadado a desaparecer.	13 By speaking of a new covenant, he implies that the first one is old. And anything old and ageing isready to disappear.
