Epístola aos Hebreus 6

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Pelo que, transpondo os ensinamentos elementares da doutrina de Cristo, procuremos alcançar-lhe a plenitude. Não queremos agora insistir nas noções fundamentais da conversão, da renúncia ao pecado, da fé em Deus,	1 Let us leave behind us then al the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to its completion,without going over the fundamental doctrines again: the turning away from dead actions, faith in God,
2 a doutrina dos vários batismos, da imposição das mãos, da ressurreição dos mortos e do julgamento eterno.	2 the teaching about baptisms and the laying -- on of hands, about the resurrection of the dead andeternal judgement.
3 Isto faremos, se Deus o permitir.	3 This, God willing, is what we propose to do.
4 Porque aqueles que foram uma vez iluminados saborearam o dom celestial, participaram dos dons do Espírito Santo,	4 As for those people who were once brought into the light, and tasted the gift from heaven, and receiveda share of the Holy Spirit,
5 experimentaram a doçura da palavra de Deus e as maravilhas do mundo vindouro e, apesar disso, caíram na apostasia,	5 and tasted the goodness of God's message and the powers of the world to come
6 é impossível que se renovem outra vez para a penitência, visto que, da sua parte, crucificaram de novo o Filho de Deus e publicamente o escarneceram.	6 and yet in spite of this have fal en away -- it is impossible for them to be brought to the freshness ofrepentance a second time, since they are crucifying the Son of God again for themselves, and making a publicexhibition of him.
7 O terreno que recebe chuvas freqüentes e fornece ao agricultor boas searas, é abençoado por Deus.	7 A field that drinks up the rain that has fal en frequently on it, and yields the crops that are wanted by theowners who grew them, receives God's blessing;
8 O que produz só espinhos e abrolhos, é abandonado, não demora que será amaldiçoado e acabará sendo incendiado.	8 but one that grows brambles and thistles is worthless, and near to being cursed. It will end by beingburnt.
9 Embora vos falemos desse modo, caríssimos, temos a melhor idéia a vosso respeito e de vossa salvação.	9 But you, my dear friends -- in spite of what we have just said, we are sure you are in a better state andon the way to salvation.
10 Deus não é injusto e não esquecerá vossas obras e a caridade que mostrastes por amor de seu nome, vós que servistes e continuais a servir os santos.	10 God would not be so unjust as to forget al you have done, the love that you have for his name or theservices you have done, and are stil doing, for the holy people of God.
11 Desejamos, apenas, que ponhais todo o empenho em guardar intata a vossa esperança até o fim,	11 Our desire is that every one of you should go on showing the same enthusiasm til the ultimatefulfilment of your hope,
12 e que, longe de vos tornardes negligentes, sejais imitadores daqueles que pela fé e paciência se tornam herdeiros das promessas.	12 never growing careless, but taking as your model those who by their faith and perseverance are heirsof the promises.
13 Quando Deus fez a promessa a Abraão, como não houvesse ninguém maior por quem jurar, jurou por si mesmo,	13 When God made the promise to Abraham, he swore by his own self, since there was no one greaterhe could swear by:
14 dizendo: Em verdade eu te abençoarei, e multiplicarei a tua posteridade {Gn 22,16s}.	14 I will shower blessings on you and give you many descendants.
15 E Abraão, esperando com paciência, alcançou a realização da promessa.	15 Because of that, Abraham persevered and received fulfilment of the promise.
16 Os homens, com efeito, juram por quem é maior do que eles, e o juramento serve de garantia e põe fim a toda controvérsia.	16 Human beings, of course, swear an oath by something greater than themselves, and between them,confirmation by an oath puts an end to al dispute.
17 Por isso, querendo Deus mostrar mais seguramente aos herdeiros da promessa a imutabilidade da sua resolução, interpôs o juramento.	17 In the same way, when God wanted to show the heirs of the promise even more clearly howunalterable his plan was, he conveyed it by an oath
18 Por este ato duplamente irrevogável, pelo qual o próprio Deus se proibia de desdizer-se, encontramos motivo de profunda consolação, nós que pusemos nossa perspectiva em alcançar a esperança proposta.	18 so that through two unalterable factors in which God could not be lying, we who have fled to him mighthave a vigorous encouragement to grasp the hope held out to us.
19 Esperança esta que seguramos qual âncora de nossa alma, firme e sólida, e que penetra até além do véu, no santuário	19 This is the anchor our souls have, reaching right through inside the curtain
20 onde Jesus entrou por nós como precursor, Pontífice eterno, segundo a ordem de Melquisedec.	20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever, of theorder of Melchizedek.
