Epístola aos Colossenses 2

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Desejo realmente que estejais informados do árduo combate que sustento por amor de vós e dos de Laodicéia, assim como de todos os que ainda não me viram pessoalmente!	1 I want you to know, then, what a struggle I am having on your behalf and on behalf of those in Laodicea,and on behalf of so many others who have never seen me face to face.
2 Tudo sofro para que os seus corações sejam reconfortados e que, estreitamente unidos pela caridade, sejam enriquecidos de uma plenitude de inteligência, para conhecerem o mistério de Deus, isto é, Cristo,	2 It is all to bind them together in love and to encourage their resolution until they are rich in the assuranceof their complete understanding and have knowledge of the mystery of God
3 no qual estão escondidos todos os tesouros da sabedoria e da ciência.	3 in which al the jewels of wisdom and knowledge are hidden.
4 Digo-vos isso para que ninguém vos engane com discursos sedutores.	4 I say this to make sure that no one deceives you with specious arguments.
5 Porque, embora corporalmente distante, estou presente a vós em espírito, e me alegro em ver a firmeza da vossa fé em Cristo.	5 I may be absent in body, but in spirit I am there among you, delighted to find how wel -ordered you areand to see how firm your faith in Christ is.
6 Como {de nossa pregação} recebestes o Senhor Jesus Cristo, vivei nele,	6 So then, as you received Jesus as Lord and Christ, now live your lives in him,
7 enraizados e edificados nele, inabaláveis na fé em que fostes instruídos, com o coração a transbordar de gratidão!	7 be rooted in him and built up on him, held firm by the faith you have been taught, and overflowing withthanksgiving.
8 Estai de sobreaviso, para que ninguém vos engane com filosofias e vãos sofismas baseados nas tradições humanas, nos rudimentos do mundo, em vez de se apoiar em Cristo.	8 Make sure that no one captivates you with the empty lure of a 'philosophy' of the kind that human beingshand on, based on the principles of this world and not on Christ.
9 Pois nele habita corporalmente toda a plenitude da divindade.	9 In him, in bodily form, lives divinity in al its ful ness,
10 Tendes tudo plenamente nele, que é a cabeça de todo principado e potestade.	10 and in him you too find your own fulfilment, in the one who is the head of every sovereignty and rulingforce.
11 Nele também fostes circuncidados com circuncisão não feita por mão de homem, mas com a circuncisão de Cristo, que consiste no despojamento do nosso ser carnal.	11 In him you have been circumcised, with a circumcision performed, not by human hand, but by thecomplete stripping of your natural self. This is circumcision according to Christ.
12 Sepultados com ele no batismo, com ele também ressuscitastes por vossa fé no poder de Deus, que o ressuscitou dos mortos.	12 You have been buried with him by your baptism; by which, too, you have been raised up with himthrough your belief in the power of God who raised him from the dead.
13 Mortos pelos vossos pecados e pela incircuncisão da vossa carne, chamou-vos novamente à vida em companhia com ele. É ele que nos perdoou todos os pecados,	13 You were dead, because you were sinners and uncircumcised in body: he has brought you to life withhim, he has forgiven us every one of our sins.
14 cancelando o documento escrito contra nós, cujas prescrições nos condenavam. Aboliu-o definitivamente, ao encravá-lo na cruz.	14 He has wiped out the record of our debt to the Law, which stood against us; he has destroyed it bynailing it to the cross;
15 Espoliou os principados e potestades, e os expôs ao ridículo, triunfando deles pela cruz.	15 and he has stripped the sovereignties and the ruling forces, and paraded them in public, behind him inhis triumphal procession.
16 Ninguém, pois, vos critique por causa de comida ou bebida, ou espécies de festas ou de luas novas ou de sábados.	16 Then never let anyone criticise you for what you eat or drink, or about observance of annual festivals,New Moons or Sabbaths.
17 Tudo isto não é mais que sombra do que devia vir. A realidade é Cristo.	17 These are only a shadow of what was coming: the reality is the body of Christ.
18 Ninguém vos roube a seu bel-prazer a palma da corrida, sob pretexto de humildade e culto dos anjos. Desencaminham-se estas pessoas em suas próprias visões e, cheias do vão orgulho de seu espírito materialista,	18 Do not be cheated of your prize by anyone who chooses to grovel to angels and worship them, pinningevery hope on visions received, vainly puffed up by a human way of thinking;
19 não se mantêm unidas à Cabeça, da qual todo o corpo, pela união das junturas e articulações, se alimenta e cresce conforme um crescimento disposto por Deus.	19 such a person has no connection to the Head, by which the whole body, given al that it needs andheld together by its joints and sinews, grows with the growth given by God.
20 Se em Cristo estais mortos aos princípios deste mundo, por que ainda vos deixais impor proibições, como se vivêsseis no mundo?	20 If you have really died with Christ to the principles of this world, why do you stil let rules dictate to you,as though you were still living in the world?
21 Não pegues! Não proves! Não toques!,	21 -'Do not pick up this, do not eat that, do not touch the other,'
22 proibições estas que se tornam perniciosas pelo uso que delas se faz, e que não passam de normas e doutrinas humanas.	22 and al about things which perish even while they are being used -- according to merely humancommandments and doctrines!
23 Elas podem, sem dúvida, dar a impressão de sabedoria, enquanto exibem culto voluntário, de humildade e austeridade corporal. Mas não têm nenhum valor real, e só servem para satisfazer a carne.	23 In these rules you can indeed find what seems to be good sense -- the cultivation of the wil , and ahumility which takes no account of the body; but in fact they have no value against self-indulgence.
