SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Chegando o dia de Pentecostes, estavam todos reunidos no mesmo lugar.	1 When Pentecost day came round, they had al met together,
2 De repente, veio do céu um ruído, como se soprasse um vento impetuoso, e encheu toda a casa onde estavam sentados.	2 when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which fil ed the entire house inwhich they were sitting;
3 Apareceu-lhes então uma espécie de línguas de fogo que se repartiram e pousaram sobre cada um deles.	3 and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each ofthem.
4 Ficaram todos cheios do Espírito Santo e começaram a falar em línguas, conforme o Espírito Santo lhes concedia que falassem.	4 They were al fil ed with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave thempower to express themselves.
5 Achavam-se então em Jerusalém judeus piedosos de todas as nações que há debaixo do céu.	5 Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven,
6 Ouvindo aquele ruído, reuniu-se muita gente e maravilhava-se de que cada um os ouvia falar na sua própria língua.	6 and at this sound they al assembled, and each one was bewildered to hear these men speaking hisown language.
7 Profundamente impressionados, manifestavam a sua admiração: Não são, porventura, galileus todos estes que falam?	7 They were amazed and astonished. 'Surely,' they said, 'al these men speaking are Galileans?
8 Como então todos nós os ouvimos falar, cada um em nossa própria língua materna?	8 How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language?
9 Partos, medos, elamitas; os que habitam a Macedônia, a Judéia, a Capadócia, o Ponto, a Ásia,	9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; people from Mesopotamia, Judaea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10 a Frígia, a Panfília, o Egito e as províncias da Líbia próximas a Cirene; peregrinos romanos,	10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya round Cyrene; residents of Rome-
11 judeus ou prosélitos, cretenses e árabes; ouvimo-los publicar em nossas línguas as maravilhas de Deus!	11 Jews and proselytes alike -- Cretans and Arabs, we hear them preaching in our own language aboutthe marvels of God.'
12 Estavam, pois, todos atônitos e, sem saber o que pensar, perguntavam uns aos outros: Que significam estas coisas?	12 Everyone was amazed and perplexed; they asked one another what it all meant.
13 Outros, porém, escarnecendo, diziam: Estão todos embriagados de vinho doce.	13 Some, however, laughed it off. 'They have been drinking too much new wine,' they said.
14 Pedro então, pondo-se de pé em companhia dos Onze, com voz forte lhes disse: Homens da Judéia e vós todos que habitais em Jerusalém: seja-vos isto conhecido e prestai atenção às minhas palavras.	14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and addressed them in a loud voice: 'Men of Judaea, and al youwho live in Jerusalem, make no mistake about this, but listen careful y to what I say.
15 Estes homens não estão embriagados, como vós pensais, visto não ser ainda a hora terceira do dia.	15 These men are not drunk, as you imagine; why, it is only the third hour of the day.
16 Mas cumpre-se o que foi dito pelo profeta Joel:	16 On the contrary, this is what the prophet was saying:
17 Acontecerá nos últimos dias - é Deus quem fala -, que derramarei do meu Espírito sobre todo ser vivo: profetizarão os vossos filhos e as vossas filhas. Os vossos jovens terão visões, e os vossos anciãos sonharão.	17 In the last days -- the Lord declares -- I shal pour out my Spirit on al humanity. Your sons anddaughters shal prophesy, your young people shal see visions, your old people dream dreams.
18 Sobre os meus servos e sobre as minhas servas derramarei naqueles dias do meu Espírito e profetizarão.	18 Even on the slaves, men and women, shall I pour out my Spirit.
19 Farei aparecer prodígios em cima, no céu, e milagres embaixo, na terra: sangue fogo e vapor de fumaça.	19 I will show portents in the sky above and signs on the earth below.
20 O sol se converterá em trevas e a lua em sangue, antes que venha o grande e glorioso dia do Senhor.	20 The sun wil be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the day of the Lord comes, thatgreat and terrible Day.
21 E então todo o que invocar o nome do Senhor será salvo {Jl 3,1-5}.	21 And al who cal on the name of the Lord will be saved.
22 Israelitas, ouvi estas palavras: Jesus de Nazaré, homem de quem Deus tem dado testemunho diante de vós com milagres, prodígios e sinais que Deus por ele realizou no meio de vós como vós mesmos o sabeis,	22 'Men of Israel, listen to what I am going to say: Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you byGod by the miracles and portents and signs that God worked through him when he was among you, as youknow.
23 depois de ter sido entregue, segundo determinado desígnio e presciência de Deus, vós o matastes, crucificando-o por mãos de ímpios.	23 This man, who was put into your power by the deliberate intention and foreknowledge of God, you tookand had crucified and kil ed by men outside the Law.
24 Mas Deus o ressuscitou, rompendo os grilhões da morte, porque não era possível que ela o retivesse em seu poder.	24 But God raised him to life, freeing him from the pangs of Hades; for it was impossible for him to be heldin its power since,
25 Pois dele diz Davi: Eu via sempre o Senhor perto de mim, pois ele está à minha direita, para que eu não seja abalado.	25 as David says of him: I kept the Lord before my sight always, for with him at my right hand nothing canshake me.
26 Alegrou-se por isso o meu coração e a minha língua exultou. Sim, também a minha carne repousará na esperança,	26 So my heart rejoiced my tongue delighted; my body, too, wil rest secure,
27 pois não deixarás a minha alma na região dos mortos, nem permitirás que o teu santo conheça a corrupção.	27 for you will not abandon me to Hades or al ow your holy one to see corruption.
28 Fizeste-me conhecer os caminhos da vida, e me encherás de alegria com a visão de tua face {Sl 15,8-11}.	28 You have taught me the way of life, you wil fil me with joy in your presence.
29 Irmãos, seja permitido dizer-vos com franqueza: do patriarca Davi dizemos que morreu e foi sepultado, e o seu sepulcro está entre nós até o dia de hoje.	29 'Brothers, no one can deny that the patriarch David himself is dead and buried: his tomb is stil with us.
30 Mas ele era profeta e sabia que Deus lhe havia jurado que um dos seus descendentes seria colocado no seu trono.	30 But since he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn him an oath to make one of hisdescendants succeed him on the throne,
31 É, portanto, a ressurreição de Cristo que ele previu e anunciou por estas palavras: Ele não foi abandonado na região dos mortos, e sua carne não conheceu a corrupção.	31 he spoke with foreknowledge about the resurrection of the Christ: he is the one who was notabandoned to Hades, and whose body did not see corruption.
32 A este Jesus, Deus o ressuscitou: do que todos nós somos testemunhas.	32 God raised this man Jesus to life, and of that we are al witnesses.
33 Exaltado pela direita de Deus, havendo recebido do Pai o Espírito Santo prometido, derramou-o como vós vedes e ouvis.	33 Now raised to the heights by God's right hand, he has received from the Father the Holy Spirit, whowas promised, and what you see and hear is the outpouring of that Spirit.
34 Pois Davi pessoalmente não subiu ao céu, todavia diz: O Senhor disse a meu Senhor: Senta-te à minha direita	34 For David himself never went up to heaven, but yet he said: The Lord declared to my Lord, take yourseat at my right hand,
35 até que eu ponha os teus inimigos por escabelo dos teus pés {Sl 109,1}.	35 till I have made your enemies your footstool.
36 Que toda a casa de Israel saiba, portanto, com a maior certeza de que este Jesus, que vós crucificastes, Deus o constituiu Senhor e Cristo.	36 'For this reason the whole House of Israel can be certain that the Lord and Christ whom God has madeis this Jesus whom you crucified.'
37 Ao ouvirem essas coisas, ficaram compungidos no íntimo do coração e indagaram de Pedro e dos demais apóstolos: Que devemos fazer, irmãos?	37 Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, 'What are we to do,brothers?'
38 Pedro lhes respondeu: Arrependei-vos e cada um de vós seja batizado em nome de Jesus Cristo para remissão dos vossos pecados, e recebereis o dom do Espírito Santo.	38 'You must repent,' Peter answered, 'and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christfor the forgiveness of your sins, and you wil receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 Pois a promessa é para vós, para vossos filhos e para todos os que ouvirem de longe o apelo do Senhor, nosso Deus.	39 The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for al those who are far away, for althose whom the Lord our God is cal ing to himself.'
40 Ainda com muitas outras palavras exortava-os, dizendo: Salvai-vos do meio dessa geração perversa!	40 He spoke to them for a long time using many other arguments, and he urged them, 'Save yourselvesfrom this perverse generation.'
41 que receberam a sua palavra foram batizados. E naquele dia elevou-se a mais ou menos três mil o número dos adeptos.	41 They accepted what he said and were baptised. That very day about three thousand were added totheir number.
42 Perseveravam eles na doutrina dos apóstolos, na reunião em comum, na fração do pão e nas orações.	42 These remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of breadand to the prayers.
43 De todos eles se apoderou o temor, pois pelos apóstolos foram feitos também muitos prodígios e milagres em Jerusalém e o temor estava em todos os corações.	43 And everyone was fil ed with awe; the apostles worked many signs and miracles.
44 Todos os fiéis viviam unidos e tinham tudo em comum.	44 And al who shared the faith owned everything in common;
45 Vendiam as suas propriedades e os seus bens, e dividiam-nos por todos, segundo a necessidade de cada um.	45 they sold their goods and possessions and distributed the proceeds among themselves according towhat each one needed.
46 Unidos de coração freqüentavam todos os dias o templo. Partiam o pão nas casas e tomavam a comida com alegria e singeleza de coração,	46 Each day, with one heart, they regularly went to the Temple but met in their houses for the breaking ofbread; they shared their food gladly and generously;
47 louvando a Deus e cativando a simpatia de todo o povo. E o Senhor cada dia lhes ajuntava outros que estavam a caminho da salvação.	47 they praised God and were looked up to by everyone. Day by day the Lord added to their communitythose destined to be saved.
