Deuteronômio 8

1 Tereis muito cuidado em praticar tudo o que hoje vos prescrevo, para que possais viver e multiplicar-vos, e entrar na possessão da terra que o Senhor jurou dar a vossos pais.	1 “All the commandments which I am entrusting to you this day, take care to observe them diligently, so that you may live and be multiplied, and so that, upon entering, you may possess the land, about which the Lord swore to your fathers.
2 Lembra-te de todo o caminho por onde o Senhor te conduziu durante esses quarenta anos no deserto, para humilhar-te e provar-te, e para conhecer os sentimentos de teu coração, e saber se observarias ou não os seus mandamentos.	2 And you shall remember the entire journey along which the Lord your God led you, for forty years through the desert, to afflict you, and to test you, and to make known the things that were turning in your soul, whether or not you would keep his commandments.
3 Humilhou-te com a fome; deu-te por sustento o maná, que não conhecias nem tinham conhecido os teus pais, para ensinar-te que o homem não vive só de pão, mas de tudo o que sai da boca do Senhor.	3 He afflicted you with need, and he gave you Manna as your food, which neither you nor your fathers knew, so as to reveal to you that it is not by bread alone that man lives, but by every word that goes forth from the mouth of God.
4 Tuas vestes não se gastaram sobre ti, e teu pai, não se magoou durante estes quarenta anos.	4 Your garment, with which you were covered, has by no means decayed due to age, and your foot has not been worn down, even to this fortieth year,
5 Reconhece, pois, em teu coração, que assim como um homem corrige seu filho, assim te corrige o Senhor, teu Deus.	5 so that you would recognize in your heart that, just as a man educates his son, so has the Lord your God educated you.
6 Guardar s os mandamentos do Senhor, teu Deus, andando em seus caminhos e temendo-o.	6 So may you keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and walk in his ways, and fear him.
7 Porque o Senhor, teu Deus, vai conduzir-te a uma terra excelente, cheia de torrentes, de fontes e de águas profundas que brotam nos vales e nos montes;	7 For the Lord your God will lead you into a good land: a land of brooks and waters and fountains, in which deep rivers burst forth from its plains and mountains,
8 uma terra de trigo e de cevada, de vinhas, de figueiras, de romãzeiras, uma terra de óleo de oliva e de mel,	8 a land of crops, barley, and vineyards, in which fig and pomegranate and olive trees spring up, a land of oil and honey.
9 uma terra onde não será racionado o pão que comeres, e onde nada faltará; terra cujas pedras são de ferro e de cujas montanhas extrairás o bronze.	9 In that place, without any need, you shall eat your bread and enjoy an abundance of all things: where the stones are like iron, and where ore for brass is dug out of its mountains.
10 Comer à saciedade, e bendirás o Senhor, teu Deus, pela boa terra que te deu.	10 So then, when you have eaten and been satisfied, you should bless the Lord your God for the excellent land which he has given to you.
11 Guarda-te de esquecer o Senhor, teu Deus, negligenciando a observância de suas ordens, seus preceitos e suas leis que hoje te prescrevo.	11 Be observant and cautious, lest at sometime you may forget the Lord your God, and neglect his commandments, as well as the judgments and ceremonies, which I instruct to you this day.
12 Não suceda que, depois de teres comido à saciedade, de teres construído e habitado formosas casas,	12 Otherwise, after you have eaten and been satisfied, and have built beautiful houses and have lived in them,
13 de teres visto multiplicar teus bois e tuas ovelhas, e aumentar a tua prata, o teu ouro e o teu bem,	13 and have obtained herds of oxen, and flocks of sheep, and a plentitude of gold and silver and all things,
14 o teu coração se eleve, e te esqueças do Senhor, teu Deus, que te tirou do Egito, da casa da servidão.	14 your heart might be lifted up, and you might not remember the Lord your God, who led you away from the land of Egypt, from the house of servitude,
15 Foi ele o teu guia neste vasto e terrível deserto, cheio de serpentes ardentes e escorpiões, terra árida e sem água, onde fez jorrar para ti água do rochedo duríssimo;	15 and who was your leader in the great and terrible wilderness, in which there was the serpent with a burning breath, and the scorpion, and the snake of thirst, and no waters at all. He led streams out of the hardest rock,
16 foi ele quem te alimentou no deserto com um maná desconhecido de teus pais, para humilhar-te e provar-te, a fim de te fazer o bem depois disso.	16 and he nourished you in the wilderness with Manna, which your fathers had not known. And after he had afflicted and tested you, in the very end, he took pity on you.
17 Não digas no teu coração: a minha força e o vigor do meu braço adquiriram-me todos esses bens.	17 Otherwise, you might say in your heart: ‘My own strength, and the power of my own hand, have brought forth all these things for me.’
18 Lembra-te de que ,é o Senhor, teu Deus, quem te dá a força para adquiri-los, a fim de confirmar, como o faz hoje, a aliança que jurou a teus pais.	18 But remember the Lord your God, that he himself has provided you with strength, so that he may fulfill his covenant, about which he swore to your fathers, just as the present day reveals.
19 Se, esquecendo-te do Senhor, teu Deus, seguires outros deuses, rendendo-lhes culto e prostrando-te diante deles, desde hoje vos declaro que perecereis com toda a certeza.	19 But if you forget the Lord your God, so that you follow foreign gods, and serve and adore them: behold, I now foretell to you that you shall utterly perish.
20 Como as nações que o Senhor exterminou diante de vós, assim também perecereis vós, se não ouvirdes a voz do Senhor, vosso Deus.	20 Just like the nations, which the Lord destroyed upon your arrival, so shall you also perish, if you have been disobedient to the voice of the Lord your God.”
