Deuteronômio 11

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Amarás, pois, o Senhor, teu Deus, e observarás sempre o que ele te ordena, suas leis, seus preceitos e seus mandamentos.	1 'You must love Yahweh your God and always keep his observances, his laws, his customs, hiscommandments.
2 Quanto a vós pois não se trata de vossos filhos, que não conheceram e não foram testemunhas oculares das lições que o Senhor nos deu , {reconhecei} a grandeza de vosso Deus, o poder de sua mão, e o vigor de seu braço,	2 You are the ones who have had the experience, not your children. They have not had the experience,they have not witnessed the lessons of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand and his outstretchedarm,
3 os prodígios e as obras que fez no Egito contra o faraó, rei do Egito, e contra toda a sua terra;	3 the signs and the deeds which he performed in the heart of Egypt, against Pharaoh king of Egypt andhis entire country,
4 o que fez ao exército egípcio, aos seus cavalos e aos seus carros, como os envolveu nas águas do mar Vermelho, quando vos perseguiam, aniquilando-os para sempre.	4 what he did to the armies of Egypt, to their horses and their chariots, by overwhelming them with thewaters of the Sea of Reeds when they were pursuing you, and leaving no trace of them to this day;
5 {Lembra-te} do que fez por vós no deserto até a vossa chegada a este lugar;	5 what he did for you in the desert, until you arrived here;
6 do castigo que infligiu a Datã e Abiron, filhos de Eliab, filho de Rubem, quando a terra, abrindo sua boca, engoliu-os no meio de todo o Israel, com suas famílias, suas tendas e todos os seres vivos que os seguiam.	6 what he did to Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when, with al Israel standinground, the earth opened its mouth and swal owed them, with their families, their tents and al their supporters.
7 Os vossos filhos viram todas as obras que o Senhor fez.	7 Al these great deeds of Yahweh you have seen with your own eyes.
8 Observareis, pois, as ordens que hoje vos dou, para que sejais fortes e entreis na posse da terra que ides ocupar,	8 'You must keep al the commandments which I enjoin on you today, so that you may have the strengthto conquer the country into which you are about to cross, to take possession of it,
9 e prolongueis os vossos dias na terra que o Senhor jurou dar a vossos pais e à sua posteridade, terra que mana leite e mel.	9 and so that you may live long in the country which Yahweh promised on oath to bestow on yourancestors and their descendants, a country flowing with milk and honey.
10 Com efeito, a terra em que vais entrar para possuí-la, não é como o Egito de onde saíste, onde, depois de lançada a semente, devias regar a terra com a força de teus pés, como se rega uma horta.	10 'For the country which you are about to enter and make your own is not like the country of Egyptfrom which you have come, where, having done your sowing, you had to water the seed by foot, as though in avegetable garden.
11 A terra que ides ocupar é uma terra de montes e vales, que bebe as chuvas do céu.	11 No, the country which you are about to enter and make your own, is a country of hills and val eyswatered by the rain of heaven.
12 É uma terra de que o Senhor, teu Deus, toma cuidado, e para a qual os seus olhos estão continuamente voltados do começo ao fim do ano.	12 Yahweh your God looks after this country, the eyes of Yahweh your God are always on it, from thebeginning of the year to the end.
13 Se obedecerdes aos mandamentos que hoje vos prescrevo, se amardes o Senhor, servindo-o de todo o vosso coração e de toda a vossa alma,	13 Depend on it: if you faithfully obey the commandments I enjoin on you today, loving Yahweh yourGod and serving him with al your heart and al your soul,
14 derramarei sobre a vossa terra a chuva em seu tempo, a chuva do outono e a da primavera, e recolherás o teu trigo, o teu vinho e o teu óleo;	14 I shal give your country rain at the right time, rain in autumn, rain in spring, so that you can harvestyour wheat, your new wine and your oil.
15 darei erva aos teus campos para os teus animais, e te alimentarás até ficares saciado.	15 I shal provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat to your heart's content.
16 Tende cuidado para que o vosso coração não seja seduzido e vos desvieis do Senhor para servir deuses estranhos, rendendo-lhes culto e prostrando-vos diante deles.	16 Beware of letting your heart be seduced: if you go astray, serve other gods and bow down to them,
17 A cólera do Senhor se inflamaria contra vós e ele fecharia os céus: a chuva cessaria de cair, e não haveria mais colheita, no vosso solo, de modo que não tardaríeis a perecer nesta boa terra que o Senhor vos dá.	17 Yahweh's anger wil be kindled against you, he wil shut the heavens, there wil be no more rain, thesoil wil not yield its produce and, in the fine country given you by Yahweh, you wil quickly perish.
18 Gravai, pois, profundamente em vosso coração e em vossa alma estas minhas palavras; prenderas às vossas mãos como um sinal, e levaras como uma faixa frontal entre os vossos olhos.	18 'Let these words of mine remain in your heart and in your soul; fasten them on your hand as a signand on your forehead as a headband.
19 Ensinai-as aos vossos filhos, falando-lhes delas seja em vossa casa, seja em viagem, quando vos deitardes ou levantardes.	19 Teach them to your children, and keep on tel ing them, when you are sitting at home, when you areout and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up.
20 Escreve-as nas ombreiras e nas portas de tua casa,	20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates,
21 para que se multipliquem os teus dias e os dias de teus filhos na terra que o Senhor jurou dar a teus pais, e sejam tão numerosos como os dias do céu sobre a terra.	21 so that you and your children may live long in the country which Yahweh swore to your ancestorsthat he would give them for as long as there is a sky above the earth.
22 Se observardes fielmente todos os mandamentos que vos prescrevo, amando o Senhor, vosso Deus, andando em seus caminhos e apegando-vos a ele,	22 'For if you faithful y keep and observe al these commandments that I enjoin on you today, lovingYahweh your God, following all his ways and holding fast to him,
23 então o Senhor expulsará de diante de vós todas essas nações, e despojareis povos mais numerosos e mais fortes do que vós.	23 Yahweh wil dispossess al these nations before you, and you wil dispossess nations greater andmore powerful than yourselves.
24 Todo lugar em que pisar a planta de vossos pés vos pertencerá. Vossa fronteiras irão desde o deserto até o Líbano e desde o rio Eufrates até o mar do ocidente.	24 Wherever the sole of your foot treads wil be yours; your territory will run from the desert al the wayto the Lebanon; and from the River, from the River Euphrates, as far as the Western Sea, wil be your territory.
25 Ninguém vos poderá resistir: o Senhor, vosso Deus, semeará o pânico e o terror de vós em todas as terras onde pisardes, como vos prometeu.	25 No one wil be able to resist you; Yahweh your God will make you feared and dreaded throughout theterritory you tread, as he has promised you.
26 Vede: proponho-vos hoje bênção ou maldição.	26 'Today, look, I am offering you a blessing and a curse:
27 Bênção, se obedecerdes aos mandamentos do Senhor, vosso Deus, que hoje vos prescrevo.	27 a blessing, if you obey the commandments of Yahweh your God which I enjoin on you today;
28 Maldição, se não obedecerdes aos mandamentos do Senhor, vosso Deus, e vos apartardes do caminho que hoje vos mostro, para seguintes deuses estranhos que não conheceis.	28 a curse, if you disobey the commandments of Yahweh your God and leave the way which today Ihave marked out for you, by following other gods hitherto unknown to you.
29 Quando o Senhor, vosso Deus, te tiver introduzido na terra que vais possuir, pronunciarás a bênção sobre o monte Garizim, e a maldição sobre o monte Ebal.	29 And when Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are about to enter andmake your own, you must set the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.
30 Essas montanhas encontram-se além do Jordão, do outro lado do caminho do ocidente, na terra dos cananeus que habitam nas planícies defronte de Gálgala, perto dos carvalhos de Moré.	30 (These mountains, as everyone knows, are on the other side of the Jordan on the westward road, inthe territory of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, near the Oak of Moreh.)
31 Com efeito, vós passareis o Jordão e tomareis posse da terra que te dá o Senhor. Quando a possuirdes e nela habitardes,	31 For you are about to cross the Jordan, to enter and take possession of the country given you byYahweh your God. You wil possess it, you wil live in it,
32 cuidareis de praticar todos os preceitos e todas as leis que hoje vos proponho.	32 and you must keep and observe al the laws and customs promulgated by me to you today.'
