Amós 8

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Eis o que me mostrou o Senhor: Vi uma cesta de frutos maduros.	1 This is what Lord Yahweh showed me: A basket of ripe fruit.
2 Que vês tu, Amós?, perguntou-me ele. Uma cesta de frutos maduros, respondi. Ele replicou: Chegou o fim para o meu povo de Israel. Não continuarei a perdoá-lo.	2 'What do you see, Amos?' he asked. 'A basket of ripe fruit,' I said. Then Yahweh said, 'The time is ripefor my people Israel; I wil not continue to overlook their offences.
3 Naquele dia, os cantos do palácio serão gritos de aflição - oráculo do Senhor Javé. Uma multidão de cadáveres, lançados em qualquer parte. Silêncio!	3 That day, the palace songs will turn to howls, -declares the Lord Yahweh- the corpses wil be manythat are thrown down everywhere. Keep silent!'
4 Ouvi isto, vós que engolis o pobre, e fazeis perecer os humildes da terra,	4 Listen to this, you who crush the needy and reduce the oppressed to nothing,
5 dizendo: Quando passará a lua nova, para vendermos o nosso trigo, e o sábado, para abrirmos os nossos celeiros, diminuindo a medida e aumentando o preço, e falseando a balança para defraudar?	5 you who say, 'When wil New Moon be over so that we can sel our corn, and Sabbath, so that we canmarket our wheat? Then, we can make the bushel-measure smaller and the shekel-weight bigger, byfraudulently tampering with the scales.
6 {Compraremos os infelizes por dinheiro e os pobres por um par de sandálias.} Venderemos até o refugo do trigo.	6 We can buy up the weak for silver and the poor for a pair of sandals, and even get a price for thesweepings of the wheat.'
7 O Senhor jurou pelo orgulho de Jacó: não esquecerei jamais nenhum de seus atos.	7 Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob, 'Never wil I forget anything they have done.'
8 Não, estremecerá a terra por causa disso? Não estará de luto toda a sua população? Todo o solo crescerá como o Nilo, subirá e baixará como o rio do Egito.	8 Wil not the earth tremble for this and al who live on it lament, as it al rises together like the Nile inEgypt, it swel s and then subsides like the Egyptian Nile?
9 Acontecerá naquele dia - oráculo do Senhor Javé - que farei o sol se pôr ao meio-dia, e encherei a terra de trevas em pleno dia.	9 'On that Day- declares the Lord Yahweh- I shal make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth inbroad daylight.
10 Converterei vossas festas em luto, e vossos cânticos em elegias fúnebres. Porei o saco em volta de todos os rins, e a navalha em todas as cabeças. E farei {a terra} debulhar-se em pranto, como se chora um filho único, e seu porvir será um dia de amargura.	10 I shall turn your festivals into mourning and all your singing into lamentation; I shall make you all wearsacking round your waists and have al your heads shaved. I shal make it like the mourning for an only child,and it wil end like the bitterest of days.
11 Virão dias - oráculo do Senhor Javé - em que enviarei fome sobre a terra, não uma fome de pão, nem uma sede de água, mas {fome e sede} de ouvir a palavra do Senhor.	11 'The days are coming- declares the Lord Yahweh- when I shal send a famine on the country, nothunger for food, not thirst for water, but famine for hearing Yahweh's word.
12 Andarão errantes de um mar a outro, vaguearão do norte ao oriente; correrão por toda parte buscando a palavra do Senhor, e não a encontrarão.	12 People wil stagger from sea to sea, will wander from the north to the east, searching for Yahweh'sword, but wil not find it.
13 Naqueles dias, desfalecerão de sede as belas jovens e os moços.	13 'That Day, fine girls and stalwart youths will faint from thirst.
14 Os que juram pelo pecado de Samaria e dizem: Pela vida do teu deus, Dã! e Pelo caminho de Bersabéia!, estes cairão e não mais se levantarão.	14 The people who swear by the Sin of Samaria, who say, "Long live your god, Dan!" and "Hurrah for thepilgrimage to Beersheba!" will all fal , never to rise again.'
