SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 O Senhor disse a Moisés: "Vai procurar o faraó e dize-lhe: eis o que diz o Senhor, Deus dos hebreus: deixa ir o meu povo, para que ele me preste um culto.	1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Go to Pharaoh and say to him, "Yahweh, God of the Hebrews, says this:Let my people go and worship me.
2 Se recusas, se persistes em retê-lo,	2 If you refuse to let them go and detain them any longer,
3 a mão do Senhor vai pesar sobre os teus animais que estão nos campos, sobre os cavalos, os jumentos, os camelos, os bois e as ovelhas: haverá uma peste terrível.	3 look, the hand of Yahweh wil strike your livestock in the fields, horses, donkeys, camels, oxen andflocks with a deadly plague.
4 Entretanto, o Senhor fará uma distinção entre os animais dos israelitas e os dos egípcios, e nada perecerá de tudo o que pertence aos israelitas."	4 Yahweh wil discriminate between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt: nothing of whatbelongs to the Israelites will die.
5 O Senhor fixou o prazo nestes termos: "Amanhã, o Senhor fará isso na terra".	5 Yahweh has fixed the time. Tomorrow, he has said, Yahweh will do this in the country." '
6 No dia seguinte, o Senhor cumpriu sua palavra: todos os animais dos egípcios pereceram, mas não morreu um animal sequer dos rebanhos dos israelistas.	6 Next day Yahweh did this: al the Egyptians' livestock died, but nothing of the livestock owned by theIsraelites died.
7 Tendo o faraó mandado examinar, verificou que não morrera nem um só animal dos rebanhos dos israelistas. Mas o coração do faraó ficou endurecido, e ele não deixou ir o povo.	7 Pharaoh had enquiries made, and found that of the livestock owned by the Israelites not a single beasthad died. But Pharaoh was obstinate and did not let the people go.
8 O Senhor disse a Moisés e a Aarão: "Tomai vossas duas mãos cheias de cinza do forno, e Moisés a lance para o céu diante dos olhos do faraó.	8 Yahweh then said to Moses and Aaron, 'Take handfuls of soot from the kiln, and before Pharaoh's eyeslet Moses throw it in the air.
9 Ela tornar-se-á uma poeira que se espalhará por todo o Egito, e haverá em todo o Egito, sobre os homens e sobre os animais, tumores que se arrebatarão em úlceras".	9 It will turn into fine dust over the whole of Egypt and produce boils breaking into sores on man andbeast throughout the whole of Egypt.'
10 Tomaram, pois, da cinza do forno e apresentaram-se diante do faraó. Moisés atirou-a para o céu e produziram-se, sobre os homens e sobre os animais, tumores que se arrebataram em úlceras.	10 So they took soot from the kiln and stood in front of Pharaoh, and Moses threw it in the air, and onman and beast it brought out boils breaking into sores.
11 Os mágicos não puderam aparecer diante de Moisés por causa das úlceras, porque foram atingidos como todos os egípcios.	11 And the magicians could not compete with Moses in the matter of the boils, for the magicians werecovered with boils like al the other Egyptians.
12 O Senhor endureceu o coração do faraó, que, como o Senhor havia predito, não ouviu Moisés e Aarão.	12 But Yahweh made Pharaoh stubborn and, as Yahweh had foretold to Moses, he did not listen to them.
13 O Senhor disse a Moisés: "Tu te apresentarás amanhã cedo diante do faraó, e dir-lhe-ás: eis o que diz o Senhor, Deus dos hebreus: deixa partir meu povo para que me preste um culto,	13 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Get up early in the morning and confront Pharaoh. Say to him, "Yahweh,God of the Hebrews, says this: Let my people go and worship me.
14 porque desta vez vou descarregar todos os meus flagelos sobre tua pessoa, tua gente e teu povo, a fim de que saibas que não há ninguém semelhante a mim em toda a terra.	14 For this time I am going to inflict al my plagues on you, on your officials and on your subjects, so thatyou wil know that there is no one like me in the whole world.
15 Eu poderia, num instante, estendendo a minha mão, ferir-te de peste, tu e o teu povo; e tu já terias desaparecido da terra.	15 Had I stretched out my hand to strike you and your subjects with pestilence, you would have beenswept from the earth.
16 Mas, se te deixo incólume, é para que vejas o meu poder, e que o meu nome seja glorificado por toda a terra.	16 But I have let you survive for this reason: to display my power to you and to have my name talked ofthroughout the world.
17 Se te obstinas em impedir a partida de meu povo,	17 Since you take a high hand with my people, refusing to let them go,
18 amanhã, a esta mesma hora, farei cair uma chuva de pedras tão violenta como nunca houve outra igual no Egito, desde sua origem até o dia de hoje.	18 very wel , at about this time tomorrow, I shal cause so severe a hail to fal as was never known inEgypt from the day of its foundation until now.
19 Mete, pois, ao abrigo, teus animais e tudo o que tens nos campos, porque todos os homens e todos os animais, que se encontrarem fora de casa nos campos, serão atingidos pela saraiva e morrerão.	19 So now send word to have your livestock and everything else you own in the fields put under cover.On man or beast, al that happen to be in the fields and are not brought indoors, the hail will fal and they wildie." '
20 Aqueles dentre a gente do faraó, que temem a palavra do Senhor, porão seus servos e seus rebanhos ao abrigo nas casas.	20 Those of Pharaoh's officials who respected what Yahweh said, brought their slaves and livestockindoors,
21 Mas os que não fazem caso da palavra do Senhor, deixarão nos campos seus escravos e seus rebanhos.	21 but those who did not take to heart what Yahweh said left their slaves and livestock in the fields.
22 O Senhor disse a Moisés: "Estende a mão para o céu, para que caia uma chuva de granizo em todo o Egito sobre os homens, os animais e sobre toda a erva dos campos."	22 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand towards heaven so that it hails throughout thewhole of Egypt, on man and beast and on everything growing anywhere in Egypt.'
23 Moisés estendeu sua vara para o céu, e o Senhor enviou trovões e chuva de pedras, e o fogo do céu caiu sobre a terra. O Senhor fez chover granizo sobre o Egito.	23 Moses stretched out his staff towards heaven, and Yahweh thundered and rained down hail. Lightningstruck the earth and Yahweh rained down hail on Egypt.
24 Caiu granizo misturado com fogo; e caiu com tanta violência como nunca houve semelhante em todo o Egito, desde que veio a ser uma nação.	24 And so there was hail, and lightning accompanied the hail, very severe, such as had never beenknown anywhere in Egypt since it first became a nation.
25 Em todo o Egito a chuva de pedras feriu tudo o que estava nos campos, homens e animais, e feriu toda a erva dos campos e quebrou todas as árvores dos campos.	25 Al over Egypt the hail struck down everything in the fields, man and beast, and the hail beat downeverything growing in the fields and shattered al the trees in the fields.
26 Só a terra de Gessém, onde se encontravam os israelitas, foi poupada.	26 The only place where there was no hail was in the Goshen region, where the Israelites lived.
27 O rei mandou chamar Moisés e Aarão e disse-lhes: "Desta vez eu pequei. O Senhor é justo; eu e meu povo fomos culpados.	27 Pharaoh then sent for Moses and Aaron and said, 'This time, I have sinned. Yahweh is in the right; Iand my subjects are in the wrong.
28 Rogai ao Senhor para que cessem os trovões e o granizo. Eu vos deixarei ir, e não vos reterei mais."	28 Pray to Yahweh, for we cannot bear any more of this thunder and hail. I promise to let you go. Youneed stay no longer.'
29 Moisés disse-lhe: "Logo que eu tiver saído da cidade, levantarei minhas mãos para o Senhor: os trovões cessarão e não haverá mais granizo, para que saibas que a terra pertence ao Senhor.	29 Moses said to him, 'The moment I leave the city I shal stretch out my hands to Yahweh. The thunderwil stop, and there wil be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth belongs to Yahweh.
30 Mas sei que tu e tua gente não temeis ainda o Senhor Deus."	30 But as for you and your officials, I know very wel that you stil have no respect for Yahweh God.'
31 {O linho e a cevada foram destruídos, porque a cevada estava espigando e o linho estava em flor;	31 The flax and the barley were ruined, since the barley was in the ear and the flax in bud,
32 o trigo, porém, e a espelta se salvaram, porque são tardios.}	32 but the wheat and spelt were not destroyed, being late crops.
33 Moisés partiu da casa do faraó e deixou a cidade. E levantou as mãos para o Senhor: cessaram os trovões e o granizo, e a chuva cessou de cair sobre a terra.	33 Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He stretched out his hands to Yahweh and the thunderand hail ceased and the rain stopped pouring down on the earth.
34 Vendo o faraó que cessara a chuva, assim como o granizo e os trovões, continuou a pecar e endureceu seu coração, ele e sua gente.	34 When Pharaoh saw that rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he relapsed into sin,
35 E, tendo-se obstinado o coração do faraó, não deixou partir os israelitas, assim como o Senhor havia predito pela voz de Moisés.	35 and he and his officials became obstinate again. Pharaoh was stubborn and, as Yahweh had foretoldthrough Moses, refused to let the Israelites go.
