SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Eliseu dissera à mulher, cujo filho ele ressuscitara: Parte com todos os teus, e habita no estrangeiro, porque o Senhor fez vir a fome, e ela virá sobre a terra durante sete anos.	1 Elisha had said to the woman whose son he had raised to life, 'Move away with your family, and livewhere you can in some foreign country, for Yahweh has cal ed up a famine -- it is already coming on the country-- for seven years.'
2 Esta mulher fez o que lhe disse o homem de Deus: emigrou com sua família e habitou sete anos na terra dos filisteus.	2 The woman hurried to do what the man of God had told her: she set out, she and her family, and forseven years she lived in Philistine territory.
3 Passados os sete anos, voltou da terra dos filisteus e foi falar ao rei a respeito de sua casa e de sua terra.	3 When the seven years were over, the woman returned from Philistine territory and went to lodge a claimwith the king for her house and land.
4 O rei estava conversando com Giezi, servo do homem de Deus, e pedia-lhe que lhe contasse os prodígios que Eliseu tinha feito.	4 Now the king was talking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God. 'Tel me', he was saying, 'al aboutthe marvels which Elisha did.'
5 Giezi estava justamente contando como Eliseu havia ressuscitado um morto, quando a mulher, cujo filho ressuscitara, chegou para implorar ao rei a respeito de sua casa e de sua terra. Giezi exclamou: Ó rei, meu senhor! Eis a mulher com o filho que Eliseu ressuscitou.	5 Gehazi was just tel ing the king how Elisha had raised the dead child to life, when the woman whose sonElisha had raised lodged her claim with the king for her house and land. 'My lord king,' Gehazi said, 'this is thevery woman, and that is her son whom Elisha raised to life.'
6 O rei interrogou a mulher, e esta narrou-lhe o acontecido. Então o rei fê-la acompanhar por um eunuco com a seguinte ordem: Faze-lhe restituir tudo o que lhe pertence, assim como todos os rendimentos de sua terra, desde o dia em que ela a deixou até o dia de hoje.	6 The king questioned the woman, who told him the story. The king then delegated one of the officials toher with this order, 'See that al her property is restored to her, and al the revenue from her land from the dayshe left the country until now.'
7 Eliseu foi a Damasco. Ben-Hadad, rei da Síria, estava doente. Avisaram-no, dizendo: O homem de Deus está aqui.	7 Elisha went to Damascus. Ben-Hadad king of Aram was il , and was told, 'The man of God has come althe way to us.'
8 Disse então o rei a Hazael: Toma contigo um presente e vai ao encontro do homem de Deus. Consultarás o Senhor, por seu intermédio, se sairei vivo desta enfermidade.	8 Then the king said to Hazael, 'Take a present with you and go and meet the man of God; consultYahweh through him, and find out if I shal recover from my il ness.'
9 Hazael partiu e foi ao encontro do homem de Deus, levando consigo presentes, o que havia de melhor em Damasco, em quarenta camelos carregados. Chegando aonde ele estava, disse-lhe: Teu filho Ben-Hadad, rei da Síria, mandou-me ter contigo para perguntar-te se sairá vivo de sua enfermidade.	9 So Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him as a present the best that Damascus could offer, a loadfor forty camels. He arrived and, presenting himself, said, 'Your son Ben-Hadad king of Aram has sent me to askyou, "Shall I recover from my illness?" '
10 Eliseu respondeu-lhe: Vai e dize-lhe que ele será certamente curado. Mas o Senhor revelou-me que ele morrerá.	10 Elisha replied, 'Go and tell him, "You might recover," though Yahweh has shown me that he wilcertainly die.'
11 Depois o homem de Deus olhou-o fixamente, de modo que Hazael se sentiu perturbado; e o homem de Deus pôs-se a chorar.	11 Then the face of the man of God went rigid, and his look grew strangely fixed, and he wept.
12 Por que chora o meu senhor?, perguntou Hazael. Ele respondeu: Porque sei os males que farás aos israelitas: incendiarás as suas cidades fortes, passarás ao fio da espada os seus jovens, esmagarás as suas crianças e rasgarás pelo meio o ventre de suas mulheres grávidas.	12 'Why', Hazael asked, 'does my lord weep?' 'Because I know', Elisha replied, 'what harm you wil do tothe Israelites: you wil burn down their fortresses, put their picked warriors to the sword, dash their little childrento pieces, disembowel their pregnant women.'
13 Será o teu servo porventura um cão, disse-lhe Hazael, para fazer tais coisas? Eliseu respondeu: O Senhor mostrou-me numa visão que serás rei da Síria.	13 'But what is your servant?' Hazael said. 'How could this dog achieve anything so great?' 'In a visionfrom Yahweh,' Elisha replied, 'I have seen you king of Aram.'
14 Deixando Eliseu, voltou Hazael para junto de seu amo, o qual lhe perguntou: Que te disse Eliseu? Disse-me, respondeu ele, que serás certamente curado.	14 Leaving Elisha, Hazael went back to his master who asked, 'What did Elisha say to you?' He replied,'He told me that you might recover.'
15 No dia seguinte, {Hazael} tomou uma cobertura, molhou-a em água e aplicou-a sobre o rosto do rei, e este morreu. E Hazael sucedeu-lhe no trono.	15 Next day he took a blanket, soaked it in water, and spread it over his face. So died Ben-Hadad, andHazael succeeded him.
16 No quinto ano de Jorão, filho de Acab, rei de Israel, Jorão, filho de Josafá, tornou-se rei de Judá.	16 In the fifth year of Jehoram son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat became king ofJudah.
17 Tinha trinta e dois anos quando começou a reinar, e reinou oito anos em Jerusalém.	17 He was thirty-two years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for eight years in Jerusalem.
18 Andou pelos caminhos dos reis de Israel, como fizera a casa de Acab, cuja filha desposou. E fez o mal aos olhos do Senhor.	18 He followed the example of the kings of Israel as the House of Ahab were doing; he had married one ofAhab's daughters; and he did what is displeasing to Yahweh.
19 Apesar disso, o Senhor não quis destruir a casa de Judá, por causa de Davi, seu servo, a quem prometera conservar sempre uma lâmpada na sua descendência.	19 But Yahweh was unwil ing to destroy Judah, because of his servant David, and was faithful to thepromise which he had made him to leave him a lamp for ever in his presence.
20 No tempo de Jorão, os edomitas sacudiram o jugo de Judá e constituíram um rei para si.	20 In his time Edom threw off the domination of Judah and set up a king for itself.
21 Jorão foi a Seira com todos os seus carros, e, durante a noite, feriu os edomitas que o tinham cercado; e os chefes dos carros com as tropas fugiram para as suas tendas.	21 Jehoram crossed to Zair, and with him al the chariots . . . Under cover of dark, he and his chariotcommanders broke through the Edomites surrounding him; the people fled to their tents.
22 E assim Edom sacudiu o jugo de Judá até o dia de hoje. Naquele mesmo tempo, Libna libertou-se igualmente.	22 Even so, Edom threw off the domination of Judah, remaining free to the present day. Libnah alsorevolted at that time.
23 Os outros atos e grandes feitos de Jorão estão consignados no livro das Crônicas dos reis de Judá.	23 The rest of the history of Jehoram, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals ofthe Kings of Judah?
24 Jorão adormeceu com os seus pais e foi sepultado junto deles na cidade de Davi. Seu filho Ocozias sucedeu-lhe no trono.	24 Then Jehoram fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David; his sonAhaziah succeeded him.
25 No décimo segundo ano de Jorão, filho de Acab, rei de Israel, Ocozias, filho de Jorão, tornou-se rei de Judá.	25 In the twelfth year of Jehoram son of Ahab, king of Israel, Ahaziah son of Jehoram, king of Judah,became king.
26 Ocozias tinha vinte e dois anos quando começou a reinar, e reinou um ano em Jerusalém. Sua mãe chamava-se Atalia, e era filha {neta} de Amri, rei de Israel.	26 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for one year inJerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah granddaughter of Omri king of Israel.
27 Andou nos caminhos da casa de Acab e fez o mal aos olhos do Senhor, como a casa de Acab, porque lhe era aliado.	27 He followed the example of the House of Ahab and did what is displeasing to Yahweh, as the House ofAhab were doing, to whom he was related by marriage.
28 Saiu com Jorão, filho de Acab, a combater Hazael, rei da Síria, em Ramot de Galaad, e foi ferido pelos sírios.	28 He went with Jehoram son of Ahab to make war on Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth in Gilead, but theAramaeans wounded Jehoram.
29 E voltou então a Jezrael para se curar dos ferimentos recebidos dos sírios no combate contra Hazael, rei da Síria. Ocozias, filho de Jorão, rei de Judá, desceu a Jezrael para visitar Jorão, filho de Acab, que estava enfermo.	29 King Jehoram returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which he had received at Ramah,fighting against Hazael king of Aram. Ahaziah son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to Jezreel to visitJehoram son of Ahab because he was ailing.
