Siracide 47

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dopo di lui sorse Natan a profetizzare nei giorni di Davide.	1 After him arose Nathan, to prophesy in the time of David.
2 Come il grasso è separato dal sacrificio, così fu scelto Davide tra i figli d'Israele.	2 As the fat is set apart from the communion sacrifice, so was David chosen out of the Israelites.
3 Giocò con i leoni come fossero capretti, e con gli orsi quasi fossero agnelli.	3 He played with lions as though with kids, and with bears as though with lambs.
4 Non uccise un gigante, pur essendo ancor giovane, e non tolse l'ignominia del popolo, quando alzò la mano con la pietra nella fionda per abbattere la tracotanza di Golia?	4 While stil a boy, did he not slay the giant and take away the people's shame, by hurling a stone fromhis sling and cutting short the boasting of Goliath?
5 Infatti egli invocò il Signore altissimo, che gli diede tanta forza nella destra per sconfiggere chi era forte nella guerra e dare la vittoria al suo popolo.	5 For he cal ed on the Lord Most High, who gave strength to his right arm to put a mighty warrior to deathand assert the strength of his own people.
6 Perciò hanno celebrato la sua vittoria sui diecimila, hanno a lui inneggiato con la benedizione del Signore e gli hanno offerto un diadema di gloria.	6 Hence they gave him credit for ten thousand, and praised him while they blessed the Lord, by offeringhim a crown of glory.
7 Infatti sgominò i nemici all'intorno, annientò gli avversari Filistei, ne distrusse la potenza fino ad oggi.	7 For he destroyed the enemies on every front, he annihilated his foes, the Philistines, and crushed theirstrength for ever.
8 Per ogni sua impresa glorificava il Santo altissimo con parole di lode. Con tutto il cuore cantava inni, tanto egli amava il suo Creatore.	8 In al his activities he gave thanks to the Holy One Most High in words of glory; he put all his heart intohis songs out of love for his Creator.
9 Stabilì salmisti davanti all'altare per addolcire i canti col loro suono.	9 He placed singers before the altar, melodiously to sing;
10 Diede splendore alle feste e conferì somma bellezza alle ricorrenze, perché essi cantavano il suo santo Nome e il suono allietava fin dal mattino il santuario.	10 he gave the feasts their splendour, the festivals their solemn pomp, causing the Lord's holy name tobe praised and the sanctuary to resound from dawn.
11 Il Signore perdonò i suoi peccati e innalzò per sempre la sua potenza; gli diede il patto di una dinastia regale e un trono di gloria in Israele.	11 The Lord took away his sins, making his strength ever greater; he gave him a royal covenant, and aglorious throne in Israel.
12 Dopo di lui sorse un figlio saggio, che grazie a lui dimorò entro ampi confini:	12 A wise son succeeded him, who lived content, thanks to him.
13 Salomone, che regnò in tempi di pace; il Signore gli diede pace all'intorno, perché dedicasse una casa al suo nome, gli preparasse un santuario per sempre.	13 Solomon reigned in a time of peace, and God gave him peace al round so that he could raise a houseto his name and prepare an everlasting sanctuary.
14 Come sei stato saggio nella tua giovinezza! Eri pieno d'intelligenza come un fiume!	14 How wise you were despite your youth, like a river, brimming over with intelligence!
15 La tua fama ricoprì la terra, che riempisti con parabole ed enigmi.	15 Your mind ranged the earth, you fil ed it with mysterious sayings.
16 La tua fama è giunta nelle isole lontane, sei stato amato per la pace del tuo regno.	16 Your name reached the distant islands, and you were loved for your peace.
17 I tuoi canti, proverbi e parabole, le tue risposte erano ammirati da tutto il mondo.	17 Your songs, your proverbs, your sayings and your answers were the wonder of the world.
18 Nel nome del Signore Dio, chiamato il Dio d'Israele, hai raccolto l'oro come stagno e ammassato l'argento come piombo.	18 In the name of the Lord God, of him who is cal ed the God of Israel, you amassed gold like so muchtin, and made silver as common as lead.
19 Ma hai fatto giacere al tuo fianco le donne, che hanno soggiogato il tuo corpo;	19 You abandoned your body to women, you became the slave of your appetites.
20 hai macchiato così la tua gloria, hai profanato la tua discendenza, hai attirato l'ira sui tuoi figli, afflitti ormai dalla tua stoltezza.	20 You stained your honour, you profaned your stock, so bringing retribution on your children andaffliction for your fol y:
21 Perciò fu diviso il tuo dominio e cominciò da Efraim un empio regno.	21 the empire split in two, from Ephraim arose a rebel kingdom.
22 Ma il Signore non ha abbandonato la sua misericordia, non ha annullato la sua parola, né ha cancellato la progenie del suo eletto: non distrusse la stirpe di chi l'aveva amato, diede a Giacobbe un resto e, da esso, a Davide una radice.	22 But the Lord never goes back on his mercy, never cancels any of his words, wil neither deny offspringto his elect nor stamp out the line of the man who loved him. And hence, he has granted a remnant to Jacob andto David a root sprung from him.
23 Salomone si riposò con i suoi padri e lasciò dopo di lui uno dei suoi figli, che fu stolto con il popolo e di poca intelligenza, Roboamo, che scontentò il popolo con la sua decisione.	23 Solomon rested with his ancestors, leaving one of his stock as his successor, the stupidest member ofthe nation, brainless Rehoboam, who drove the people to rebel.
24 Allora Geroboamo, figlio di Nabat, fece sviare Israele e condusse Efraim sulla via del peccato. I loro peccati si sono tanto accresciuti da cacciarli fuori dalla loro terra;	24 Next, Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, and set Ephraim on the way of evil; from then ontheir sins multiplied so excessively as to drive them out of their country;
25 hanno cercato ogni specie di malvagità finché venne su di loro la vendetta.	25 for they tried out every kind of wickedness, until vengeance overtook them.
