LA SACRA BIBBIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Trascorsero tre anni senza che ci fosse guerra tra Aram e Israele.	1 And there passed three years without war between Syria and Israel.
2 Il terzo anno Giosafat, re di Giuda, scese dal re d'Israele.	2 And in the third year, Josaphat king of Juda came down to the king of Israel.
3 Il re d'Israele parlò ai suoi ufficiali: "Non sapete che Ramot di Gàlaad ci appartiene? E noi non facciamo nulla per strapparla dalle mani del re di Aram!".	3 (And the king of Israel said to his servants: Know ye not-that Ramoth Galaad is ours, and we neglect to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?)
4 Disse poi a Giosafat: "Verrai con me a combattere a Ramot di Gàlaad?". Giosafat rispose al re d'Israele: "Conta su me come su te, sul mio popolo come sul tuo, sui miei cavalli come sui tuoi!".	4 And he said to Josaphat: Wilt thou come with me to battle to Ramoth Galaad ?
5 Però Giosafat disse al re d'Israele: "Ti prego, consulta il Signore oggi stesso".	5 And Josaphat said to the king of Israel: As I am, so art thou: my people and thy people are one: and my horsemen, thy horsemen. And Josaphat said to the king of Israel: Inquire, I beseech thee, this day, the word of the Lord.
6 Allora il re d'Israele convocò i profeti in numero di circa quattrocento e disse loro: "Devo salire a combattere a Ramot di Gàlaad oppure devo rinunciarvi?". Quelli risposero: "Sali pure perché il Signore la darà in mano al re".	6 Then the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and he said to them: Shall I go to Ramoth Galaad to fight, or shall I forbear? They answered: Go up, and the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.
7 Allora Giosafat domandò: "Non v'è nessun altro profeta del Signore, perché possiamo consultarlo per mezzo suo?".	7 And Josaphat said: Is there not here some prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire by him?
8 Il re di Israele rispose a Giosafat: "V'è ancora un uomo adatto per consultare il Signore, ma io lo detesto, perché non mi profetizza mai cose buone, ma solo cattive; è Michea, figlio di Imla". Giosafat replicò: "Il re non dica queste cose!".	8 And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: There is one man left, by whom we may inquire of the Lord: Micheas the son of Jemla; but I hate him, for he doth not prophesy good to me, but evil. And Josaphat said: Speak not so, O king.
9 Allora il re d'Israele chiamò un eunuco e gli disse: "Fa' venire subito Michea, figlio di Imla".	9 Then the king of Israel called an eunuch, and said to him: Make haste, and bring hither Micheas the son of Jemla.
10 Il re d'Israele e Giosafat, re di Giuda, stavano seduti, ciascuno sul suo trono, con gli abiti di gala, nell'aia antistante la porta di Samaria, e tutti quei profeti profetavano alla loro presenza.	10 Then the king of Israel, and Josaphat king of Juda, sat each on his throne clothed with royal robes, in a court by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets prophesied before them.
11 Sedecia, figlio di Chenaana, si fece dei corni di ferro e disse: "Così parla il Signore: "Con questi percuoterai Aram fino allo sterminio".	11 And Sedecias the son of Chanaana made himself horns of iron, and said: Thus saith the Lord: With these shalt thou push Syria, till thou destroy it.
12 Tutti i profeti profetavano allo stesso modo: "Sali a Ramot di Gàlaad e avrai successo perché il Signore la darà in mano al re!".	12 And all the prophets prophesied in like manner, saying: Go up to Ramoth Galaad, and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the king's hands.
13 Il messaggero, che era stato mandato a chiamare Michea, gli disse: "Ecco, gli oracoli dei profeti sono unanimemente favorevoli al re; sia anche il tuo oracolo come quello di ognuno di essi: annuncia il bene".	13 And the messenger, that went to call Micheas, spoke to him, saying: Behold the words of the prophets with one month declare good things to the king: let thy word therefore be like to theirs, and speak that which is good.
14 Michea rispose: "Com'è vero che vive il Signore, quello che il Signore mi dirà, io lo annuncerò!".	14 But Micheas said to him: As the Lord liveth, whatsoever the Lord shall say to me, that will I speak.
15 Quindi si recò dal re il quale gli disse: "Michea, dobbiamo andare a Ramot di Gàlaad a combattere oppure dobbiamo rinunciarvi?". Egli rispose: "Sali pure, perché avrai successo e il Signore ti darà in mano il re".	15 So he came to the king, and the king said to him: Micheas, shall we go to Ramoth Galaad to battle, or shall we forbear? He answered him: Go up, and prosper, and the Lord shall deliver it into the king's hands.
16 Ma il re gli replicò: "Quante volte dovrò supplicarti di non dirmi che la verità in nome del Signore?".	16 But the king said to him: I adjure thee again and again, that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the Lord.
17 Quegli disse: "Ho visto tutto Israele disperso sui monti come un gregge che è privo di pastore. Il Signore dice: "Essi non hanno più padroni e perciò ciascuno se ne torni a casa in pace".	17 And he said: I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, like sheep that have no shepherd: and the Lord said: These have no master: let every man of them return to his house in peace.
18 Il re d'Israele disse a Giosafat: "Non ti avevo detto che costui non mi avrebbe profetato del bene bensì del male?".	18 (Then the king of Israel said to Josaphat: Did I not tell thee, that he prophesieth no good to me, but always evil ?)
19 Il profeta però riprese: "Ascolta la parola del Signore: ho visto il Signore assiso in trono, mentre l'intera schiera celeste stava alla sua presenza, alla sua destra e alla sua sinistra.	19 And he added and said: Hear thou therefore the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on the right hand and on the left:
20 Il Signore domandò: "Chi sedurrà Acab perché salga e perisca a Ramot di Gàlaad?". Chi rispondeva in un modo, chi in un altro.	20 And the Lord said: Who shall deceive Achab king of Israel, that he may go up, and fall at Ramoth Galaad? And one spoke words of this manner, and another otherwise.
21 Finalmente uscì uno spirito che stette alla presenza del Signore e disse: "Io lo sedurrò!". Il Signore gli domandò: "In che modo?".	21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said: I will deceive him. And the Lord said to him: By what means?
22 Quegli rispose: "Uscirò e sarò spirito di menzogna in bocca di tutti i suoi profeti". Il Signore gli disse: "Certo riuscirai a sedurlo, va' e fa' così!".	22 And he said: I will go forth, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the Lord said: Thou shalt deceive him, and shalt prevail: a go forth, and do so.
23 Ecco quindi che il Signore ha posto uno spirito di menzogna in bocca di tutti questi tuoi profeti, perché il Signore ha stabilito del male a tuo riguardo".	23 Now therefore behold the Lord hath given a lying spirit in the mouth of all thy prophets that are here, and the Lord hath spoken evil against thee.
24 Allora Sedecia figlio di Chenaana s'avvicinò e colpì Michea sulla guancia dicendo: "Come mai lo spirito del Signore s'è allontanato da me per parlare con te?".	24 And Sedecias the son of Chanaana came, and struck Micheas on the cheek, and said: Hath then the spirit of the Lord left me, and spoken to thee?
25 Michea rispose: "Ecco, lo vedrai tu stesso in quel giorno in cui correrai di stanza in stanza per nasconderti".	25 And Micheas said: Thou shalt see in the day when thou shalt go into a chamber within a chamber to hide thyself.
26 Allora il re d'Israele disse: "Prendi Michea e conducilo da Amon, governatore della città, e da Ioas, figlio del re.	26 And the king of Israel said: Take Micheas, and let him abide with Ammon the governor of the city, and with Joas the son of Amalech.
27 Dirai loro: "Così parla il re: Mettete costui in prigione e dategli scarsa razione di pane e di acqua fino a che non ritornerò sano e salvo".	27 And tell them: Thus saith the king: Put this man in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction, and water of distress, till I return in peace.
28 Michea disse: "Se tu ritornerai sano e salvo, il Signore non ha parlato per mio mezzo!".	28 And Micheas said: If thou return in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he said: Hear, all ye people.
29 Il re d'Israele e Giosafat, re di Giuda, salirono a Ramot di Gàlaad.	29 So the king of Israel, and Josaphat king of Juda went up to Ramoth Galaad.
30 Il re d'Israele disse a Giosafat: "Io mi travestirò e andrò a combattere, ma tu rimani vestito dei tuoi abiti!". Il re d'Israele si travestì e andò a combattere.	30 And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: Take armour, and go into the battle, and put on thy own garments. But the king of Israel changed his dress, and went into the battle.
31 Ora il re di Aram aveva ordinato ai trentadue comandanti dei carri: "Non combattete contro nessuno, piccolo o grande, ma solo contro il re d'Israele".	31 And the king of Syria had commanded the two and thirty captains of the chariots, saying: You shall not fight against any, small or great, but against the king of Israel only.
32 Quando i comandanti dei carri videro Giosafat dissero: "E' sicuramente il re d'Israele!". E si rivolsero verso di lui per investirlo; ma Giosafat lanciò un grido.	32 So when the captains of the chariots saw Josaphat, they suspected that he was the king of Israel, and making a violent assault they fought against him: and Josaphat cried out.
33 Come i comandanti dei carri videro che non era il re d'Israele, s'allontanarono da lui.	33 And the captains of the chariots perceived that he was not the king of and they turned away from him.
34 Un uomo scoccò a caso il suo arco e colpì il re d'Israele tra il corsetto e le maglie della corazza. Allora questi ordinò al suo carrista: "Volta e fammi uscire dalla mischia perché mi sento male".	34 And a certain man bent his bow, shooting at a venture, and chanced to strike the king of Israel between the lungs and the stomach. But he said to the driver of his chariot: Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the army, for I am grievously wounded.
35 La battaglia divenne più violenta in quel giorno, cosicché il re se ne stette ritto sul suo carro di fronte agli Aramei e morì verso sera. Il sangue della ferita colò nel fondo del carro.	35 And the battle was fought that day, and the king of Israel stood in his chariot against the Syrians, and he died in the evening: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.
36 Al calar del sole un grido si sparse per l'accampamento: "Ognuno alla sua città e ognuno al suo paese!	36 And the herald proclaimed through all the army before the sun set, saying: Let every man return to his own city, and to his own country.
37 E' morto il re!". Tornarono a Samaria e vi seppellirono il re.	37 And the king died, b and was carried into Samaria: and they buried the king in Samaria.
38 Il carro fu lavato nella piscina di Samaria, dove si lavavano le prostitute, e i cani leccarono il suo sangue secondo la parola che il Signore aveva pronunciato.	38 And they washed his chariot in the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood, and they washed the reins, according to the word of the Lord which he had spoken.
39 Le altre gesta di Acab, tutte le sue azioni, il palazzo d'avorio ch'egli costruì e tutte le città che edificò non sono forse descritti nel libro degli Annali dei re d'Israele?	39 But the rest of the acts of Achab, and all that he did, and the house of ivory that he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
40 Acab si addormentò con i suoi antenati e suo figlio Acazia regnò al suo posto.	40 So Achab slept with his fathers, and Ochozias his son reigned in his stead.
41 Giosafat, figlio di Asa, divenne re in Giuda nell'anno quarto di Acab, re d'Israele.	41 But Josaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Juda in the fourth year of Achab king of Israel.
42 Egli aveva trentacinque anni quando incominciò a regnare e regnò a Gerusalemme per venticinque anni. Sua madre si chiamava Azuba, figlia di Silchi.	42 He was five and thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned five and twenty years in Jerusalem: the name of his mother was Azuba the daughter of Salai.
43 Egli imitò interamente la condotta di suo padre Asa e non se ne allontanò, facendo ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore.	43 And he walked in all the way of Asa his father, and he declined not from it: and he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord.
44 Però le alture non furono rimosse, di modo che il popolo continuava a offrire sacrifici e incenso su di esse.	44 Nevertheless he took not away the high places: for as Set the people offered sacrifices and burnt incense in the high places.
45 Giosafat visse in pace con il re d'Israele.	45 And Josaphat had peace with the king of Israel.
46 Le altre gesta di Giosafat, il coraggio con cui operò e combatté non sono forse descritti nel libro degli Annali dei re di Giuda?	46 But the rest of the acts of Josaphat, and his works which he did, and his batties, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Juda?
47 Egli eliminò dal paese il resto dei prostituti sacri che erano rimasti al tempo di suo padre Asa.	47 And the remnant also of the effeminate, who remained in the days of Asa his father, he took out of the land.
48 In Edom non v'era un re costituito e il re	48 And there was then no king appointed in Edom.
49 Giosafat costruì navi di Tarsis per andare a caricare oro ad Ofir, ma non poté andarvi perché le navi naufragarono a Ezion-Gheber.	49 But king Josaphat made navies on the sea, to sail into Ophir for gold: but they could not go, for the ships were broken in Asiongaber.
50 Allora Acazia, figlio di Acab, disse a Giosafat: "I miei servi andranno con i tuoi sulle navi"; ma Giosafat non accettò la proposta.	50 Then Ochozias the ton of Achab said to Josaphat: Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. And Josaphat would not.
51 Giosafat s'addormentò con i suoi antenati e fu sepolto nella Città di Davide suo padre. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Ioram.	51 And Josaphat slept with his fathers. and was buried with them in the city of David his father: and Joram his son reigned in his stead.
52 Nell'anno diciassettesimo di Giosafat, re di Giuda, Acazia, figlio di Acab, divenne re d'Israele in Samaria, dove regnò su Israele due anni.	52 And Ochozias the son of Achab began to reign over Israel in Samaria, in the seventeenth gear of Josaphat king of Juda, and he reigned over Israel two years,
53 Egli fece ciò ch'è male agli occhi del Signore e imitò la condotta di suo padre e di sua madre, e la condotta di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebàt, che aveva indotto Israele a peccare.	53 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father and his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who made Israel to sin.
54 Servì Baal, si prostrò davanti a lui e irritò il Signore, Dio d'Israele, proprio come aveva fatto suo padre.	54 He served also Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked the Lord the God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.
