| 1 - Quando furono in vista di Gerusalemme e arrivarono a Betfage presso il monte degli Ulivi Gesù mandò due discepoli, | 1 And when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, |
| 2 dicendo: «Andate nella borgata che è dirimpetto a voi, e subito troverete legata un'asina e un puledro con essa: scioglieteli e menateli a me. | 2 saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. |
| 3 Che se qualcuno vi dicesse qualcosa, rispondete che il Signore ne ha bisogno e subito li lascerà andare». | 3 If any one says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord has need of them,' and he will send them immediately." |
| 4 Ora questo avvenne affinchè si adempisse ciò ch'era stato detto per bocca del profeta: | 4 This took place to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet, saying, |
| 5 «Dite alla figlia di Sion: - Ecco il tuo re viene a te mansueto, cavalcando un'asina e un asinello, puledro di una giumenta -». | 5 "Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on an ass, and on a colt, the foal of an ass." |

| 7 menaron l'asina e il puledro e vi misero sopra i loro mantelli, e Gesù vi si pose a sedere. | 7 they brought the ass and the colt, and put their garments on them, and he sat thereon. |
| 8 La maggior parte della folla stese le vesti sulla strada; altri tagliavano dagli alberi rami e li stendevan sulla via | 8 Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. |
| 9 e le turbe che gli si movevan davanti e di dietro, gridavano: «Osanna al figlio di David! Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore! Osanna nel più alto [dei cieli]!». | 9 And the crowds that went before him and that followed him shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" |
| 10 E quando fu entrato in Gerusalemme, tutta la città si commosse e andava dicendo: «Chi è costui?». | 10 And when he entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, "Who is this?" |
| 11 E le turbe rispondevano: «È Gesù, il profeta da Nazaret in Galilea». | 11 And the crowds said, "This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee." |
| 12 Gesù, entrato nel tempio di Dio, ne scacciò fuori tutti quei che vi vendevano e compravano: e rovesciando le tavole dei cambiamonete e le sedie dei venditori di colombe, | 12 And Jesus entered the temple of God and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. |
| 13 disse loro: «Sta scritto: " La mia casa sarà chiamata casa d'orazione " e voi l'avete ridotta una spelonca di ladri». | 13 He said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer'; but you make it a den of robbers." |
| 14 Gli s'avvicinarono nel tempio ciechi e zoppi; ed egli li risanò. | 14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. |
| 15 Ma i principi dei Sacerdoti e gli Scribi, vedute le meraviglie da lui compiute e i fanciulli che gridavan nel tempio: «Osanna al Figlio di David!», ne furono indignati | 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant; |
| 16 e gli dissero: «Odi tu quel che dicon costoro?». E Gesù rispose: «Sì. Non avete mai letto: " Dalla bocca dei fanciulli e dei lattanti, ti sei procurata la lode"?». | 16 and they said to him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" | 17 E lasciatili, uscì dalla città e se ne andò a Betania ove passò la notte. | 17 And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there. |
| 18 La mattina poi, tornando in città, ebbe fame. | 18 In the morning, as he was returning to the city, he was hungry. |
| 19 E, visto un fico lungo la via, gli si avvicinò e, non trovandovi altro che foglie, gli disse: «Non nasca mai più da te frutto in eterno». E il fico si seccò sull'atto. | 19 And seeing a fig tree by the wayside he went to it, and found nothing on it but leaves only. And he said to it, "May no fruit ever come from you again!" And the fig tree withered at once. |
| 20 I discepoli, visto ciò si meravigliarono e domandarono: «Come mai il fico s'è seccato in un batter d'occhio?». | 20 When the disciples saw it they marveled, saying, "How did the fig tree wither at once?" |
| 21 E Gesù rispose loro: «In verità vi dico: - Se voi avrete fede e non vacillerete, non solo farete come è stato fatto a questo fico; ma se anche direte a questo monte: " Levati di lì e gettati in mare" sarà fatto. | 21 And Jesus answered them, "Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and never doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will be done. |
| 22 Ogni cosa che domanderete con fede l'otterrete-». | 22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith." |
| 23 Venuto nel tempio gli s'accostarono, mentre insegnava, i principi dei Sacerdoti e gli anziani del popolo e gli domandarono: «Con quale autorità fai tu queste cose? E chi te n'ha dato il potere?». | 23 And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?" |
| 24 Rispose Gesù: «Anch'io voglio farvi una domanda e se voi mi risponderete, vi dirò io pure con quale autorità fo queste cose. - | 24 Jesus answered them, "I also will ask you a question; and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things. |
| 25 Il battesimo di Giovanni donde veniva, dal cielo o dagli uomini? -». Ed essi ragionavan tra loro dicendo: | 25 The baptism of John, whence was it? From heaven or from men?" And they argued with one another, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' |
| 26 «Se noi rispondiamo: - Dal cielo, - egli ci dirà: - Perchè dunque non gli avete creduto? - E se rispondiamo: - Dagli uomini, - abbiamo paura del popolo». Tutti, infatti, tenevano Giovanni in conto di profeta. | 26 But if we say, 'From men,' we are afraid of the multitude; for all hold that John was a prophet." |
| 27 Risposero quindi a Gesù: «Non lo sappiamo». «E neppur io», rispose egli loro «vi dirò con quale autorità fo queste cose. | 27 So they answered Jesus, "We do not know." And he said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. |
| 28 Ma che ve ne pare? Un uomo aveva due figliuoli, ed accostatosi al primo gli disse: - Figlio, vai oggi a lavorare nella mia vigna. - | 28 "What do you think? A man had two sons; and he went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work in the vineyard today.' |
| 29 Ed egli rispose: - Non voglio! - Ma poi pentito, v'andò. | 29 And he answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he repented and went. |
| 30 E accostatosi al secondo, gli disse lo stesso. E quegli rispose: - Vado, Signore! - Ma non v'andò. | 30 And he went to the second and said the same; and he answered, 'I go, sir,' but did not go. |
| 31 Quale dei due fece la volontà del padre?». «Il primo», risposero essi. E Gesù disse loro: «In verità vi dico che i pubblicani e le meretrici vi precederanno nel regno di Dio. | 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. |
| 32 Perchè Giovanni è venuto a voi nella via della giustizia, ma voi non gli avete creduto; i pubblicani invece e le meretrici gli hanno creduto; e voi, che avete visto ciò, neppur dopo vi siete pentiti per credere a lui. | 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the harlots believed him; and even when you saw it, you did not afterward repent and believe him. |
| 33 Udite un'altra parabola. C'era una volta un padre di famiglia, il quale piantò una vigna, la cinse di siepe, vi scavò un torchio e vi edificò una torre e, datala a lavorare ai contadini, si mise in viaggio. | 33 "Hear another parable. There was a householder who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country. |
| 34 Venuto il tempo dei frutti, mandò i suoi servi dai contadini per ritirare i frutti della vigna. | 34 When the season of fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to get his fruit; |
| 35 Ma i contadini, presi quei servi, uno lo bastonarono, un altro lo uccisero, e un terzo lo lapidarono. | 35 and the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. |
| 36 Egli mandò di nuovo altri servi in maggior numero dei primi e furon trattati alla stessa maniera. | 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first; and they did the same to them. |
| 37 Da ultimo mandò loro il figlio suo, dicendo: - Rispetteranno mio figlio. - | 37 Afterward he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.' |
| 38 Ma i contadini vedendo il figliuolo, dissero tra loro: - Costui è l'erede; venite, uccidiamolo e avremo la sua eredità. - | 38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.' |
| 39 E impadronitisi di lui, lo gettarono fuor della vigna e l'uccisero. | 39 And they took him and cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. |
| 40 Ora quando verrà il padrone della vigna, che farà a quei contadini?». | 40 When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" |
| 41 Gli risposero: «Egli colpirà senza pietà quei malfattori e affiderà la vigna ad altri contadini, i quali gliene renderanno il frutto a suo tempo». | 41 They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons." |
| 42 Disse loro Gesù: «Non avete mai letto nelle Scritture: " La pietra rigettata dai costruttori è quella che è diventata la pietra angolare; dal Signore è stato fatto questo ed è cosa meravigliosa ai nostri occhi "? | 42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures: 'The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? |
| 43 Perciò io vi dico che il regno di Dio vi sarà tolto e sarà dato a un popolo che lo farà fruttificare. | 43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it. |
| 44 E chi cadrà su questa pietra, sarà sfracellato ed essa stritolerà colui sul quale cadrà». | 44 And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but when it falls on any one, it will crush him." |
| 45 I principi dei Sacerdoti e gli Scribi, udite le sue parabole, capirono che parlava di loro, | 45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them. |
| 46 e volevano impadronirsi di lui; ma avevan paura del popolo, che l'aveva in conto di profeta. | 46 But when they tried to arrest him, they feared the multitudes, because they held him to be a prophet. |
