And they went across the strait of the sea into the region of the Gerasenes.1 Ils arrivèrent sur l’autre rive, au pays des Géraséniens.
And as he was departing from the boat, he was immediately met, from among the tombs, by a man with an unclean spirit,2 Jésus descendit de la barque et aussitôt vint à sa rencontre un homme qui sortait d’entre les tombes: il était possédé d’un esprit impur.
who had his dwelling place with the tombs; neither had anyone been able to bind him, even with chains.3 Cet homme habitait dans les tombes et personne ne pouvait le maîtriser, même avec une chaîne;
For having been bound often with shackles and chains, he had broken the chains and smashed the shackles; and no one had been able to tame him.4 souvent on lui avait passé des entraves ou on l’avait lié de chaînes, mais il brisait les chaînes et faisait sauter les entraves: personne n’était capable de le dompter.
And he was always, day and night, among the tombs, or in the mountains, crying out and cutting himself with stones.5 De nuit comme de jour il passait entre les tombes ou sur les collines, poussant des cris et se frappant avec des pierres.
And seeing Jesus from afar, he ran and adored him.6 Apercevant Jésus de loin, il courut se prosterner devant lui,
And crying out with a loud voice, he said: “What am I to you, Jesus, the Son of the Most High God? I beseech you by God, that you not torment me.”7 puis il se mit à crier d’une voix forte: "Qu’est-ce que tu me veux, Jésus, Fils du Dieu Très-Haut? Je t’en supplie au nom de Dieu, ne me torture pas!”
For he said to him, “Depart from the man, you unclean spirit.”8 C’est que Jésus lui disait: "Esprit impur, sors de cet homme!”
And he questioned him: “What is your name?” And he said to him, “My name is Legion, for we are many.”9 Jésus l’interrogea: "Quel est ton nom?” Il répondit: "Légion! C’est là mon nom car nous sommes nombreux.”
And he entreated him greatly, so that he would not expel him from the region.10 Et ces démons le suppliaient de ne pas les renvoyer du pays.
And in that place, near the mountain, there was a great herd of swine, feeding.11 Or il y avait là un grand troupeau de porcs qui cherchait sa nourriture dans la montagne.
And the spirits entreated him, saying: “Send us into the swine, so that we may enter into them.”12 Les démons le supplièrent: "Envoie-nous vers les cochons, nous y entrerons!”
And Jesus promptly gave them permission. And the unclean spirits, departing, entered into the swine. And the herd of about two thousand rushed down with great force into the sea, and they were drowned in the sea.13 Jésus le leur permit.
Then those who pastured them fled, and they reported it in the city and in the countryside.
And they came to Jesus. And they saw the man who had been troubled by the demon, sitting, clothed and with a sane mind, and they were afraid.15 Lorsque les gens arrivent près de Jésus, ils voient l’homme qui avait eu la “légion” de démons: il était assis, habillé, dans tout son bon sens. Ils furent saisis de crainte.
And those who had seen it explained to them how he had dealt with the man who had the demon, and about the swine.16 Les témoins racontèrent ce qui était arrivé au démoniaque et l’histoire des cochons.
And they began to petition him, so that he would withdraw from their borders.17 Alors les gens commencèrent à le supplier pour qu’il quitte le pays.
And as he was climbing into the boat, the man who had been troubled by the demons began to beg him, so that he might be with him.18 Comme Jésus remontait dans la barque, l’ancien démoniaque insista beaucoup pour rester avec lui.
And he did not permit him, but he said to him, “Go to your own people, in your own house, and announce to them how great are the things that Lord has done for you, and how he has taken pity on you.”19 Mais Jésus ne le permit pas; il lui dit: "Rentre plutôt chez toi, dans ta famille, et raconte-leur tout ce que le Seigneur a fait pour toi et comment il a eu pitié de toi.”
And he went away and began to preach in the Ten Cities, how great were the things that Jesus had done for him.
And when Jesus had crossed in the boat, over the strait again, a great crowd came together before him. And he was near the sea.21 Jésus refit la traversée et débarqua sur l’autre rive.
And one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus, approached. And seeing him, he fell prostrate at his feet.22 Un président de synagogue arriva, un certain Jaïre.
And he beseeched him greatly, saying: “For my daughter is near the end. Come and lay your hand on her, so that she may be healthy and may live.”23 et le supplia instamment: "Ma petite fille est au plus mal; viens lui imposer les mains pour qu’elle soit sauvée et qu’elle vive!”
And he went with him. And a great crowd followed him, and they pressed upon him.24 Aussitôt Jésus se mit en route, accompagné d’une foule nombreuse qui le suivait et le pressait de tous côtés.
And there was a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years.25 Il y avait là une femme qui depuis douze ans souffrait d’hémorragies.
And she had endured much from several physicians, and she had spent everything she owned with no benefit at all, but instead she became worse.26 Elle avait beaucoup souffert aux mains de nombreux médecins: toutes ses économies y avaient passé sans aucun résultat, son mal avait même empiré.
Then, when she had heard of Jesus, she approached through the crowd behind him, and she touched his garment.27 Comme elle avait entendu parler de Jésus, elle s’approcha par derrière dans la foule et toucha son vêtement.
For she said: “Because if I touch even his garment, I will be saved.”28 Car elle se disait: "Si j’arrive à toucher, même ses vêtements, je serai sauvée.”
And immediately, the source of her bleeding was dried up, and she sensed in her body that she had been healed from the wound.29 Aussitôt son hémorragie s’arrêta et elle sentit dans son corps qu’elle était guérie de son mal.
And immediately Jesus, realizing within himself that power that had gone out from him, turning to the crowd, said, “Who touched my garments?”30 Au même moment Jésus fut conscient de cette force qui sortait de lui; il se retourna vers la foule et dit: "Qui a touché mes vêtements?”
And his disciples said to him, “You see that the crowd presses around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ”31 Ses disciples lui disaient: "Tu vois bien que la foule te presse de tous côtés; comment peux-tu demander qui t’a touché?”
And he looked around to see the woman who had done this.32 Mais Jésus continuait à chercher du regard celle qui l’avait fait.
Yet truly, the woman, in fear and trembling, knowing what had happened within her, went and fell prostrate before him, and she told him the whole truth.33 La femme alors arriva craintive et toute tremblante, sachant bien ce qui lui était arrivé.
And he said to her: “Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace, and be healed from your wound.”34 Jésus lui dit: "Ma fille, ta foi t’a sauvée, va en paix et sois guérie du mal qui te tourmentait.”
While he was still speaking, they arrived from the ruler of the synagogue, saying: “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”35 Ils parlait encore lorsque des gens arrivèrent de chez le président de la synagogue; ils lui dirent: "Ta fille est morte, pourquoi encore déranger le Maître?”
But Jesus, having heard the word that was spoken, said to the ruler of the synagogue: “Do not be afraid. You need only believe.”36 Mais Jésus avait entendu ce qu’ils venaient de dire; il dit au président de synagogue: "Ne crains pas, crois seulement!”
And he would not permit anyone to follow him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.37 Après quoi il ne laissa personne l’accompagner, si ce n’est Pierre, Jacques, et Jean, le frère de Jacques.
And they went to the house of the ruler of the synagogue. And he saw a tumult, and weeping, and much wailing.38 Voici qu’ils arrivent à la maison du président de synagogue et Jésus voit tout un remue-ménage: les gens pleuraient et poussaient des cris.
And entering, he said to them: “Why are you disturbed and weeping? The girl is not dead, but is asleep.”39 Aussitôt entré il leur dit: "Pourquoi ce vacarme et tous ces sanglots? La fillette n’est pas morte, mais elle dort.”
And they derided him. Yet truly, having put them all out, he took the father and mother of the girl, and those who were with him, and he entered to where the girl was lying.40 Les gens se moquent de lui, mais il les met tous dehors.
And taking the girl by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha koumi,” which means, “Little girl, (I say to you) arise.41 Alors il la prend par la main et lui dit: "Talitha, koum! (ce qui se traduit: Fillette, tu m’entends: lève-toi!)”
And immediately the young girl rose up and walked. Now she was twelve years old. And they were suddenly struck with a great astonishment.42 Aussitôt la fillette se lève et marche (elle avait douze ans). Les parents étaient complètement hors d’eux-mêmes.
And he instructed them sternly, so that no one would know about it. And he told them to give her something to eat.43 Jésus leur recommanda avec insistance de ne rien raconter à personne; puis il dit de lui donner à manger.
