1 It pleased Darius, and so he appointed over the kingdom one hundred twenty governors, to be placed throughout his whole kingdom.	1 Il plut à Darius d'établir sur son royaume cent vingt satrapes, qui devaient être (afin qu'il y en eût) dans tout son royaume.
2 And over these, three leaders, of whom Daniel was one, so that the governors would be accountable to them and the king would have no trouble.	2 Il mit au-dessus d'eux trois princes, dont Daniel était un, afin que ces satrapes leur rendissent compte et que le roi n'éprouvât aucun(e) souci (peine).
3 And so Daniel excelled above all the leaders and governors, because a greater spirit of God was in him.	3 Daniel surpassait donc tous les princes et tous les satrapes, parce que l'esprit de Dieu était plus abondant en lui.
4 Furthermore, the king considered setting him over the entire kingdom; whereupon the leaders and the governors sought to find a complaint against Daniel and in favor of the king. And they could find no case, or even suspicion, because he was faithful, and no fault or suspicion was found in him.	4 Le roi pensait (même) à l'établir sur tout le royaume ; aussi les princes et les satrapes cherchaient-ils une occasion pour accuser Daniel en ce qui regardait les affaires du roi ; mais ils ne purent trouver aucun prétexte pour le rendre suspect, parce qu'il était fidèle et qu'on ne trouvait en lui ni faute ni cause de soupçon.
5 Therefore, these men said, “We will not find any complaint against this Daniel, unless it is against the law of his God.”	5 Ces hommes dirent donc : Nous ne trouverons aucune occasion contre ce Daniel, si ce n'est peut-être au sujet de la loi de son Dieu.
6 Then the leaders and governors took the king aside privately and spoke to him in this way: “King Darius, live forever.	6 Alors les princes et les satrapes s'approchèrent du (surprirent le) roi et lui parlèrent ainsi : Roi Darius, vis(vez) éternellement !
7 All the leaders of your kingdom, the magistrates and governors, the senators and judges, have taken counsel that an imperial decree and edict should be published, so that all who ask any petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, will be cast into the den of lions.	7 Tous les princes de ton (votre) royaume, les magistrats et les satrapes, les sénateurs et les juges sont d'avis qu'il se fasse un édit royal, ordonnant que quiconque, durant l'espace de trente jours, adressera une demande à quelque dieu ou à quelque homme que ce soit, si ce n'est à toi (vous), ô roi, sera jeté dans la fosse aux lions.
8 Now, therefore, O king, confirm this judgment and write the decree, so that what is established by the Medes and Persians may not be altered, nor will any man be allowed to transgress it.”	8 Maintenant donc, ô roi, confirme(z) cet avis et écris(vez) le décret, afin qu'on ne change pas ce qui a été établi par les Mèdes et par les Perses, et qu'il ne soit permis à personne de le violer.
9 And so king Darius set forth the decree and established it.	9 Le roi Darius fit donc cet édit et le promulgua.
10 Now when Daniel learned of this, namely, that the law had been established, he entered his house, and, opening the windows in his upper room towards Jerusalem, he knelt down three times a day, and he adored and gave thanks before his God, as he had been accustomed to do previously.	10 Quand Daniel eut appris que cette loi avait été faite, il entra dans sa maison, et, ouvrant les fenêtres de (les fenêtres hautes dans) sa chambre du côté de Jérusalem, trois fois le jour il fléchissait les genoux, et il adorait et louait (rendait grâce à) son Dieu, comme il avait coutume de faire auparavant.
11 Therefore, these men, inquiring diligently, discovered that Daniel was praying and making supplication to his God.	11 Alors ces hommes, qui l'épiaient avec soin, trouvèrent Daniel qui priait (priant) et adorait (suppliant) son Dieu.
12 And they approached and spoke to the king about the edict. “O king, did you not decree that every man who makes a request to any of the gods or men for thirty days, except to yourself, O king, would be cast into the den of lions?” To which the king replied, saying, “The sentence is true, and according to the decree of the Medes and Persians, it is not lawful to violate it.”	12 Et se présentant devant le roi, ils lui dirent au sujet de l'édit : O roi, n'as-tu (avez-vous) pas ordonné que tout homme qui, pendant l'espace de trente jours, prierait quelqu'un des dieux ou des hommes, excepté toi (vous), ô roi, serait jeté dans la fosse aux lions ? Le roi leur répondit : Vous dites vrai ; c'est (selon) une loi des Perses et des Mèdes, qu'il n'est pas permis de violer.
13 Then they answered and said before the king, “Daniel, of the sons of the captivity of Judah, is not concerned about your law, nor about the decree that you have established, but three times a day he prays his supplication.”	13 Ils prirent de nouveau la parole et dirent au roi : Daniel, l'un des captifs d'entre les fils de Juda, n'a pas tenu compte de ta (votre) loi ni de l'édit que tu (vous) as(vez) porté, et il fait sa prière trois fois le jour.
14 Now when the king had heard these words, he was greatly grieved, and, on behalf of Daniel, he set his heart to free him, and he labored even until sunset to rescue him.	14 Lorsque le roi eut entendu cela, il fut très affligé ; et il prit en son cœur la résolution de délivrer Daniel, et jusqu'au coucher du soleil il s'efforçait de le sauver.
15 But these men, knowing the king, said to him, “You know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is that every decree which the king has established may not be altered.”	15 Mais ces hommes, comprenant l'intention du roi, lui dirent : Sache(z), ô roi, que c'est une loi des Mèdes et des Perses qu'il n'est permis de rien changer dans tout édit que le roi a établi.
16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. And the king said to Daniel, “Your God, whom you always serve, he himself will free you.”	16 Alors le roi donna un ordre, et on amena Daniel, et on le jeta dans la fosse aux lions. Et le roi dit à Daniel : Ton Dieu, que tu adores sans cesse, te délivrera.
17 And a stone was brought, and it was placed over the mouth of the den, which the king sealed with his own ring, and with the ring of his nobles, so that no one would act against Daniel.	17 On apporta une pierre, et on la mit sur l'ouverture de la fosse ; et le roi la scella de son sceau et du sceau de ses grands, de peur qu'on ne fît quelque chose contre Daniel.
18 And the king departed into his house, and he went to bed without eating, and food was not set before him, moreover, even sleep fled from him.	18 Le roi rentra ensuite dans sa maison et se coucha sans avoir soupé ; on ne servit pas de mets devant lui, et le sommeil (même) s'éloigna de lui.
19 Then the king, getting himself up at first light, went quickly to the den of lions.	19 Le roi se leva dès le point du jour et alla en toute hâte à la fosse des lions ;
20 And coming near to the den, he cried out with a tearful voice to Daniel and spoke to him. “Daniel, servant of the living God, your God, whom you serve always, do you believe he has prevailed to free you from the lions?”	20 et, s'approchant de la fosse, il appela Daniel d'une voix triste (mêlée de larmes) et lui dit : Daniel, serviteur du Dieu vivant, ton Dieu que tu sers sans cesse a-t-il (bien) pu te délivrer des lions ?
21 And Daniel, answering the king, said, “O king, live forever.	21 Daniel répondit au roi : (O) Roi, vis(vez) éternellement !
22 My God has sent his angel, and he has closed the mouths of the lions, and they have not harmed me, because before him justice has been found in me, and, even before you, O king, I have committed no offense.”	22 Mon Dieu a envoyé son ange, qui a fermé la gueule des lions, et ils ne m'ont fait aucun mal, parce que j'ai été trouvé juste devant lui ; et devant toi (vous) non plus, ô roi, je n'ai rien fait de mauvais.
23 Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and he commanded that Daniel should be taken out of the den. And Daniel was taken out of the den, and no wound was found in him, because he believed in his God.	23 Alors le roi fut transporté de joie, et il ordonna qu'on fît sortir Daniel de la fosse ; Daniel fut retiré de la fosse, et on ne trouva sur lui aucune blessure, parce qu'il avait cru en son Dieu.
24 Moreover, by order of the king, those men were brought who had accused Daniel, and they were cast into the lions’ den, they, and their sons, and their wives, and they did not reach the bottom of the den before the lions seized them and crushed all their bones.	24 Sur l'ordre du roi, on amena les hommes qui avaient accusé Daniel, et ils furent jetés dans la fosse aux lions, eux, leurs enfants (fils) et leurs femmes ; et avant qu'ils fussent venus jusqu'au pavé de la fosse, les lions les saisirent et brisèrent tous leurs os.
25 Then king Darius wrote to all peoples, tribes, and languages dwelling in all the land. “May peace be increased with you.	25 Alors le roi Darius écrivit à tous les peuples, à toutes les nations et à toutes les langues qui habitaient sur toute la terre : Que la paix se multiplie pour vous ! (.)
26 It is hereby established by my decree that, in all my empire and my kingdom, they shall begin to tremble and fear the God of Daniel. For he is the living and eternal God forever, and his kingdom will not be destroyed, and his power will last forever.	26 J'ordonne par cet édit que, dans tout mon empire et mon royaume, on révère (tremble) et on craigne le Dieu de Daniel ; car c'est lui qui est le Dieu vivant et éternel dans tous les siècles ; son royaume ne sera pas détruit, et sa puissance durera jusque dans l'éternité.
27 He is the liberator and the savior, performing signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, who has freed Daniel from the lions’ den.”	27 C'est lui qui est le libérateur et le sauveur, qui fait des prodiges et des merveilles dans le ciel et sur la terre ; c'est lui qui a délivré Daniel de la fosse aux lions.
28 Thereafter, Daniel continued through the reign of Darius until the reign of Cyrus, the Persian.	28 Or Daniel demeura jusqu'au règne de Darius, et au règne de Cyrus le Perse.
