After these things, Nathan the prophet arose, in the days of David.1 Après lui se leva Natân pour prophétiser au temps de David.
And just as fat is separated from meat, so was David separated from the sons of Israel.2 Comme on prélève la graisse pour le sacrifice de communion, ainsi David fut choisi parmiles Israélites.
He played with lions, as if with lambs, and he acted similarly with bears, as if they were lambs of the flock, in his youth.3 Il se joua du lion comme du chevreau, de l'ours comme de l'agneau.
Did he not kill the giant, and take away the reproach from his people?4 Jeune encore, n'a-t-il pas tué le géant et lavé la honte du peuple, en lançant avec la fronde lapierre qui abattit l'arrogance de Goliath?
By lifting up his hand, with a stone in a sling, he threw down the boasting of Goliath.5 Car il invoqua le Seigneur Très-Haut, qui accorda à sa droite la force pour mettre à mort unpuissant guerrier et relever la vigueur de son peuple.
For he called upon the Almighty Lord, and he swore with his right hand to take away the mighty man of war, and to exalt the horn of his people.6 Aussi lui a-t-on fait gloire de 10.000 et l'a-t-on loué dans les bénédictions du Seigneur, enlui offrant une couronne de gloire.
So he glorified him amid ten thousand, and he praised him with the blessings of the Lord, by offering him a crown of glory.7 Car il détruisit les ennemis alentour, il anéantit les Philistins ses adversaires, pour toujours ilbrisa leur vigueur.
For he crushed the enemies on every side, and he eradicated his adversaries, the Philistines, even to this day. He broke their horn, even for all time.8 Dans toutes ses oeuvres il rendit hommage au Saint Très-Haut dans des paroles de gloire; detout son coeur il chanta, montrant son amour pour son Créateur.
In all his works, he gave thanks to the Holy One, to the Most High, with words of glory.9 Il établit devant l'autel des chantres, pour émettre les chants les plus doux;
With all his heart, he praised the Lord and he loved God, who made him and who gave him power against his enemies.10 il donna aux fêtes la splendeur, un éclat parfait aux solennités, faisant louer le saint nom duSeigneur, faisant retentir le sanctuaire dès le matin.
And he appointed singers to stand opposite the altar, and by their voices he provided sweet music.11 Le Seigneur a effacé ses fautes, il a fait grandir sa vigueur pour toujours, il lui a accordéune alliance royale, un trône glorieux en Israël.
And he provided beauty for the celebrations, and he gave order to the times, even until the end of his life, so that they would praise the holy name of the Lord, and magnify the sanctity of God, from early morning.12 Un fils savant lui succéda qui, grâce à lui, vécut heureux.
The Lord purged his sins, and he exalted his horn forever. And he gave him the covenant of the kingdom, and a throne of glory in Israel.13 Salomon régna dans un temps de paix et Dieu lui accorda la tranquillité alentour, afin qu'ilélevât une maison pour son nom et préparât un sanctuaire éternel.
After him, an understanding son rose up. And by means of him, he cast down all the power of the enemies.14 Comme tu étais sage dans ta jeunesse, rempli d'intelligence ainsi qu'un fleuve!
Solomon reigned in days of peace, and God subjected all his enemies to him, so that he might build a house in his name, and prepare a sanctuary for all time. O how well-taught you were in your youth!15 Ton esprit a couvert la terre, tu l'as remplie de sentences obscures.
And you were filled with wisdom like a river, and your mind exposed the world.16 Ta renommée est parvenue jusqu'aux îles lointaines et tu fus aimé dans ta paix.
And you explained mysteries by means of parables. Your name became known to far off islands, and you were beloved for your peace.17 Tes chants, tes proverbes, tes sentences et tes réponses ont fait l'admiration du monde.
The earth was in wonder over your canticles, and proverbs, and parables, and interpretations,18 Au nom du Seigneur Dieu, de celui qu'on appelle le Dieu d'Israël, tu as amassé l'or commede l'étain et comme le plomb tu as multiplié l'argent.
and over the name of the Lord God, who is known as the God of Israel.19 Tu as livré ton corps aux femmes, tu as été l'esclave de tes sens.
You gathered gold like copper, and you multiplied silver like lead.20 Tu as fait une tache à ta gloire, tu as profané ta race, au point de faire venir la colère contretes enfants et l'affliction pour ta folie:
But you bent your thigh to women, and you were held by the power of your body.21 il se dressa un double pouvoir, il surgit d'Ephraïm un royaume révolté.
But God will not abandon his mercy, nor will he corrupt or abolish his own works. And he will not perish the stock of the descendents of his elect. And he will not destroy the offspring of him who loves the Lord.24 Quant à Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, c'est lui qui fit pécher Israël et enseigna à Ephraïm la voiedu mal. Dès lors leurs fautes se multiplièrent tant qu'elles les firent exiler loin de leur pays.
Therefore, he left behind a remnant for Jacob and for David, from the same stock.25 Car ils cherchaient toute sorte de mal, jusqu'à encourir le châtiment.
And Solomon had his end with his fathers.
And he left behind himself some of his offspring, as the folly of the nation:
both Rehoboam, who had little prudence, and who turned away the people by his counsel,
and Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin, and who provided a way of sin to Ephraim. And their sins were multiplied exceedingly.
They thoroughly turned them away from their own land.
And they sought every kind of wickedness, even until punishment overwhelmed them, and freed them from every kind of sin.
