1 Then the just will stand with great steadfastness against those who have oppressed them and have taken away their labors.	1 Allora i giusti staranno con grande baldanza contro coloro che li oppressero e rapirono le lo­ro fatiche.
2 Seeing this, they will be troubled with terrible fear, and they will be amazed at the suddenness of unexpected salvation.	2 E quelli a tal vista saranno agitati da orribile spa­vento e resteranno maravigliati dell'inaspettata e repentina sal­vezza.
3 Driven toward regret, and through the anguish of their groaning spirit, they will say within themselves: “These are the ones whom we held for some time in derision and in mocking reproach.	3 E diranno tra sè, tocchi da pentimento, e gementi per l'affanno del loro spirito: « Ecco quelli che una volta eran l'ogget­to delle nostre derisioni, l'esem­pio dell'ignominia!
4 We foolish considered their life to be madness, and their end to be without honor.	4 Noi, insensa­ti, stimavamo la loro vita una pazzia e senza onore la loro fine
5 How is it that they are counted among the sons of God, and their place is among the holy?	5 ecco che essi sono annoverati tra i figli di Dio ed hanno il loro posto fra i santi.
6 Therefore, we have strayed from the way of truth, and the light of justice has not shined on us, and the sun of understanding has not risen on us.	6 Dunque siam noi che abbiamo sbagliato, lungi dalla via della verità, per noi non brillò la luce della giustizia, per noi non sorse il sole dell'intelligenza!
7 We exhausted ourselves in the way of iniquity and perdition, and have walked a difficult way, while ignoring the way of the Lord.	7 Ci stancammo nella via del­l'iniquità e della perdizione, cam­minammo per vie difficili, e non arrivammo a conoscere la via del Signore.
8 How has arrogance benefited us? Or what has exalting in riches brought us?	8 A che ci ha servito la superbia? Qual utile ci ha apportato la boria delle ricchezze?
9 All those things have passed away like a shadow, and like a messenger traveling quickly by;	9 Tutte queste cose son passate come un'ombra, come rapido messag­gero,
10 and like a ship passing over the waves of water, when it has gone by, its trace cannot be found, nor can the pathway of its keel in the waves;	10 come nave che attraversa l'onde agitate, della quale, passa­ta che sia, non se ne trova più la traccia, nè il solco della sua ca­rena tra i flutti;
11 or, like a bird flying through the air, there is no evidence of her journey to be found, but there is hardly a sound as the beating of her wings lifts up the air and, by the force of her journey, divides the air she has flown across, which was disturbed by her wings, and afterwards there is no sign of her journey to be found;	11 Come uccello che vola per l'aria senza lasciare traccia alcuna del suo passaggio, eccetto il frullo delle ali attraver­so l'aura leggera, rotta dallo slan­cio del volo: battendo le ali passò e non è possibile trovare alcun segno del suo passaggio;
12 or, like an arrow shot at a selected mark, the air continues to be divided and to be brought together again, so that its passing is unknown.	12 come freccia scagliata al bersaglio: l'aria da lei divisa ritorna subito al suo posto in modo che è impossi­bile sapere per dove è passata.
13 And in like manner we, having been born, continuously cease to exist, and indeed, we depart with no sign of virtue to show, but we are consumed in our malice.”	13 Così noi appena nati cessam­mo d'essere, e, senza riuscire a mostrare alcun segno di virtù, restammo consumati dalla nostra malvagità ».
14 Such things those who sinned said in hell.	14 Così dicono nell'in­ferno i peccatori.
15 For the hope of the impious is like feathers, which are blown away by the wind, and like a thin foam, which is dispersed by a storm, and like smoke, which is scattered by the wind, and like the memory of a guest who passes by one day.	15 Perchè la spe­ranza dell'empio è come pula al vento, è come lieve spuma dis­sipata dalla tempesta, è come fumo disperso dal vento, è come il ricordo d'un pellegrino che si è fermato un giorno solo.
16 But the just will live forever, and their reward is with the Lord, and the thought of them is with the Most High.	16 Ma i giusti vivranno in eterno: la loro ricompensa è nelle ma­ni del Signore e di essi si prende cura l'Altissimo.
17 Therefore, they will receive a beautiful kingdom and a crown of splendor from the hand of the Lord, for with his right hand he will cover them, and with his holy arm he will defend them.	17 Per questo otterranno il regno della gloria, una bella corona dalla mano del Signore che li proteggerà colla sua destra e li difenderà col suo santo braccio.
18 And his zeal will take up arms, and he will equip his servants for retribution on their enemies.	18 Il suo zelo pren­derà le armi, ed armerà le crea­ture per far vendetta contro i ne­mici.
19 He will put on justice as a breastplate, and he will grasp sure judgment as a helmet.	19 Vestirà qual corazza la giustizia, prenderà come elmo il giudizio infallibile,
20 He will select fairness as an invincible shield.	20 prenderà come scudo invincibile l'equità.
21 Yet he will sharpen his severe wrath into a spear, and he will fight with those of the world against the irrational.	21 Aguzzerà la sua inflessibile ira come lancia e con lui combatte­rà l'universo contro gli insensa­ti.
22 Shafts of lightning will hurl forth accurately, and, as if from a well-curved bow of clouds, they will be expelled and will fly to the determined mark.	22 I fulmini scagliati andranno dritti a colpire, scoccheranno dal ben curvato arco delle nubi, e voleranno al bersaglio prefisso.
23 And hail will be cast like stones full of anger, and the water of the sea will rise up against them, and the rivers will charge forth harshly.	23 E dall'ira dura come pietra sarà scagliata grossa grandine, con­tro di essi infurieranno le onde del mare e si precipiteranno con violenza i fiumi.
24 The spirit of virtue will stand firm against them and like a whirlwind will divide them, and he will lead all the world of iniquity into a wasteland, and malice will overthrow the seats of power.	24 Contro di essi si leverà un vento impetuoso, come turbine li porterà via. La loro iniquità ridurrà la terra a un deserto, e la malvagità rovescerà i troni dei potenti.
