1 Then the just will stand with great steadfastness against those who have oppressed them and have taken away their labors.	1 Allora i giusti con gran costanza staran davanti a quelli, i quali li vessarono, e i quali depredarono le loro fatiche.
2 Seeing this, they will be troubled with terrible fear, and they will be amazed at the suddenness of unexpected salvation.	2 E quegli a tal vista saranno agitati da orrenda paura, e della inaspettata repentina salvezza di quelli resteranno stupefatti.
3 Driven toward regret, and through the anguish of their groaning spirit, they will say within themselves: “These are the ones whom we held for some time in derision and in mocking reproach.	3 E tocchi da pentimento, e sospirando affannosamente diranno dentro di se: Questi sono coloro, i quali noi una volta riguardammo come oggetto di derisione, ed esempio di obbrobrio.
4 We foolish considered their life to be madness, and their end to be without honor.	4 Noi insensati la vita loro tenemmo per una insensataggine, e come disonorato il lor fine:
5 How is it that they are counted among the sons of God, and their place is among the holy?	5 Ecco com'eglino sono contati tra' figliuoli di Dio, ed hanno parte co' santi.
6 Therefore, we have strayed from the way of truth, and the light of justice has not shined on us, and the sun of understanding has not risen on us.	6 Dunque noi smarrimmo la via di verità, e non rifulse per noi la luce della giustizia, e non si levò per noi il sole di intelligenza.
7 We exhausted ourselves in the way of iniquity and perdition, and have walked a difficult way, while ignoring the way of the Lord.	7 Ci stancammo nella via di iniquità, e di perdizione, battemmo strade disastrose, e non conoscemmo la via del Signore.
8 How has arrogance benefited us? Or what has exalting in riches brought us?	8 Che giovò a noi la superbia? E la ostentazione delle ricchezze qual prò fece a noi?
9 All those things have passed away like a shadow, and like a messenger traveling quickly by;	9 Tutte quelle cose si dileguaron con ombra, e come una passeggera novella.
10 and like a ship passing over the waves of water, when it has gone by, its trace cannot be found, nor can the pathway of its keel in the waves;	10 O come una nave valica le onde agitate, della quale vestigio non può trovarsi quand' ella è passata, né solco aperto dalla sua carena nei flutti:
11 or, like a bird flying through the air, there is no evidence of her journey to be found, but there is hardly a sound as the beating of her wings lifts up the air and, by the force of her journey, divides the air she has flown across, which was disturbed by her wings, and afterwards there is no sign of her journey to be found;	11 O come uccello, che svolazza per l'aria, il quale verun segno non lascia de' suoi movimenti, ma solo lo scuotimento delle ale, colle quali batte l'aere leggero, e rompe con forza l'ambiente, per cui fa strada: egli dibatte l'ale, e sen vola, e dietro a se non lascia segno del suo viaggio,
12 or, like an arrow shot at a selected mark, the air continues to be divided and to be brought together again, so that its passing is unknown.	12 O come scagliata, che è al destinato luogo la freccia subitamente in se stesso rientra l'aere diviso, onde passaggio di lei non conoscesi.
13 And in like manner we, having been born, continuously cease to exist, and indeed, we depart with no sign of virtue to show, but we are consumed in our malice.”	13 Così noi nati, che fummo, tosto cessammo di essere, e nessun segno di virtù potemmo mostrare; e ci consumammo nella nostra malvagità.
14 Such things those who sinned said in hell.	14 Così nell'inferno ragionano quei, che peccarono.
15 For the hope of the impious is like feathers, which are blown away by the wind, and like a thin foam, which is dispersed by a storm, and like smoke, which is scattered by the wind, and like the memory of a guest who passes by one day.	15 Imperocché la speranza dell'empio è come un bioccol di lana, che è straportato dal vento, e come la lieve spuma, che è dissipata dalla tempesta, e come la memoria di un forestiero, che passa, nè si ferma, che un giorno.
16 But the just will live forever, and their reward is with the Lord, and the thought of them is with the Most High.	16 Ma i giusti vireranno in etemo, e la loro ricompensa è nelle mani del Signore, e di essi ha cura l'Altissimo.
17 Therefore, they will receive a beautiful kingdom and a crown of splendor from the hand of the Lord, for with his right hand he will cover them, and with his holy arm he will defend them.	17 Quindi essi otterranno un regno illustre, e un bel diadema dalla mano del Signore; perocché ei li coprirà colla sua destra, e col suo braccio santo li difenderà.
18 And his zeal will take up arms, and he will equip his servants for retribution on their enemies.	18 Il suo zelo imbraccerà le armi, e armerà le creature per far vendetta dei nemici.
19 He will put on justice as a breastplate, and he will grasp sure judgment as a helmet.	19 Si rivestirà di giustizia in luogo di corazza, e in vece di cimiero prenderà l'infallibile giudizio.
20 He will select fairness as an invincible shield.	20 Darà di mano allo scudo insupera bile, che è l'equità.
21 Yet he will sharpen his severe wrath into a spear, and he will fight with those of the world against the irrational.	21 Dell'ira inflessibile si farà (Dio) acuta lancia, e con lui combatterà l'universo contro gli insensati.
22 Shafts of lightning will hurl forth accurately, and, as if from a well-curved bow of clouds, they will be expelled and will fly to the determined mark.	22 Partiranno per retta via le scagliate folgora, e dalle nubi, come da ben curvato arco scoccate al destinato luogo sen voleranno.
23 And hail will be cast like stones full of anger, and the water of the sea will rise up against them, and the rivers will charge forth harshly.	23 E dense grandini pioverà l'ira (di Dio) a guisa di macchina, che getti pietre, e contro di loro ribolliranno le acque del mare, e i fiumi inonderanno con violenza.
24 The spirit of virtue will stand firm against them and like a whirlwind will divide them, and he will lead all the world of iniquity into a wasteland, and malice will overthrow the seats of power.	24 Contro di essi si leverà un vento possente, e li getterà per aria come un turbine, e la loro iniquità ridurrà un diserto tutta la terra, e i troni de' potentati dalla malvagità saranno abbattuti.
