Psalms 43

1 Unto the end. To the sons of Korah, toward understanding.	1 - Al corifeo. Ode dei figliuoli di Core.
2 We have heard, O God, with our own ears. Our fathers have announced to us the work that you wrought in their days and in the days of antiquity.	2 O Dio, co' nostri orecchi abbiamo udito, i nostri padri ce l' han raccontato, ciò che tu facesti a' loro giornie ne' tempi antichi.
3 Your hand dispersed the Gentiles, and you transplanted them. You afflicted a people, and you expelled them.	3 La tua mano le genti disperse ed essi [invece] tu piantasti, abbattesti le nazioni ed essi tu estendesti.
4 For they did not take possession of the land by their sword, and their own arm did not save them. But your right hand and your arm, and the light of your countenance did so, because you were pleased with them.	4 Perchè non con la loro spada conquistaron la terra, né il braccio loro li salvò; ma la tua destra e il tuo braccioe la luce del tuo volto, poichè in essi ti compiacesti.
5 You yourself are my king and my God, who commands the salvation of Jacob.	5 Tu sei pure il mio re e il mio Dio, che vuoi la salvezza di Giacobbe.
6 With you, we will brandish a horn before our enemies; and in your name, we will spurn those rising up against us.	6 Con te sbaraglieremo i nostri nemici, e nel nome tuo calpesteremo i nostri aggressori.
7 For I will not hope in my bow, and my sword will not save me.	7 Perchè non nel mio arco io spero, nè mi salverà la mia spada.
8 For you have saved us from those who afflict us, and you have bewildered those who hate us.	8 Ma sei tu che ci salvi da' nostri oppressori, e svergogni coloro che ci odiano.
9 In God, we will give praise all day long; and in your name, we will confess forever.	9 In Dio ci glorieremo tutto il giorno, e il nome tuo loderemo in eterno.
10 But now, you have rejected and bewildered us, and you will not go forth with our armies, O God.	10 Ma ora tu ci rigetti e ci svergognie [più] non esci, o Dio, con le nostre schiere.
11 You have turned our back to our enemies, and those who hated us have plundered for themselves.	11 Ci hai volto in fuga dinanzi a' nostri nemici, e quel che ci odiano han fatto bottino.
12 You have given us over like sheep for food. You have scattered us among the Gentiles.	12 Ci hai abbandonato come pecore da mangiare, e tra le genti ci hai disperso.
13 You have sold your people without a price, and no great number was exchanged for them.	13 Hai venduto il tuo popolo per un nulla, e non fu molto [il guadagno] nella sua vendita.
14 You have set us as a disgrace to our neighbors, a scoff and a derision to those who are around us.	14 Ci hai reso oggetto d'obbrobrio ai nostri vicini, scherno e derisione per quei che ci attorniano.
15 You have set us as a parable among the Gentiles, a shaking of the head among the peoples.	15 Ci hai ridotto la satira delle gentie una scossa di capo tra le nazioni!
16 All day long my shame is before me, and the confusion of my face has covered me,	16 Tutto il giorno la mia vergogna è dinanzi a me e il rossore della mia faccia mi ricopre,
17 before the voice of the reproacher and the commentator, before the face of the adversary and the pursuer.	17 per la voce di chi oltraggia e insulta, di fronte al nemico e persecutore.
18 All these things have come upon us, yet we have not forgotten you, and we have not acted unjustly in your covenant.	18 Tutto questo è piombato su noi; eppure non ti abbiamo dimenticato, e non abbiam peccato contro il tuo patto.
19 And our heart has not turned back. And you have not diverted our steps from your way.	19 Non s'è tratto indietro il nostro cuore, nè han deviato i nostri passi dalla tua via,
20 For you humbled us in a place of affliction, and the shadow of death has covered us.	20 sì [da meritare] che tu ci ributtassi tra gli sciacallie ci ricoprissi con le tenebre della morte!
21 If we have forgotten the name of our God, and if we have extended our hands to a foreign god,	21 Se avessimo dimenticato il nome del nostro Dio, e avessimo stese le mani a un dio straniero,
22 will not God find this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart. For, because of you, we are being killed all day long. We are considered as sheep for the slaughter.	22 forsechè Iddio non l'avrebbe scoperto, egli che conosce i segreti del cuore? Ma per te, invece, siam messi a morte tutto il giorno, siam reputati pecore da macello.
23 Rise up. Why do you fall asleep, O Lord? Rise up, and do not reject us in the end.	23 Lèvati su! perchè dormi, o Signore? lèvati su e non [ci] rigettar per sempre.
24 Why do you turn your face away, and why do you forget our needfulness and our tribulation?	24 Perché volgi altrove la tua faccia? ti dimentichi della nostra miseria e tribolazione?
25 For our soul has been humbled into the dust. Our belly has been bound to the earth.	25 E' prostrata nella polvere l'anima nostra, incollato alla terra è il nostro corpo!
26 Rise up, O Lord. Help us and redeem us, because of your name.	26 Lèvati su, o Signore, soccorrici, e salvaci per il tuo nome [e la tua bontà].
