To David, when he changed his appearance in the sight of Abimelech, and so he dismissed him, and he went away.1 Shout for joy, you upright; praise comes wel from the honest.
I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise will be ever in my mouth.2 Give thanks to Yahweh on the lyre, play for him on the ten-stringed lyre.
In the Lord, my soul will be praised. May the meek listen and rejoice.3 Sing to him a new song, make sweet music for your cry of victory.
Magnify the Lord with me, and let us extol his name in itself.4 The word of Yahweh is straightforward, al he does springs from his constancy.
I sought the Lord, and he heeded me, and he carried me away from all my tribulations.5 He loves uprightness and justice; the faithful love of Yahweh fil s the earth.
Approach him and be enlightened, and your faces will not be confounded.6 By the word of Yahweh the heavens were made, by the breath of his mouth all their array.
This poor one cried out, and the Lord heeded him, and he saved him from all his tribulations.7 He collects the waters of the sea like a dam, he stores away the abyss in his treasure-house.
The Angel of the Lord will encamp around those who fear him, and he will rescue them.8 Let the whole earth fear Yahweh, let al who dwel in the world revere him;
Taste and see that the Lord is sweet. Blessed is the man who hopes in him.9 for, the moment he spoke, it was so, no sooner had he commanded, than there it stood!
Fear the Lord, all you his saints. For there is no destitution for those who fear him.10 Yahweh thwarts the plans of nations, frustrates the counsels of peoples;
The rich have been needy and hungry, but those who seek the Lord will not be deprived of any good thing.11 but Yahweh's own plan stands firm for ever, his heart's counsel from age to age.
Come forward, sons. Listen to me. I will teach you the fear of the Lord.12 How blessed the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people he has chosen as his heritage.
Which is the man who wills life, who chooses to see good days?13 From heaven Yahweh looks down, he sees al the children of Adam,
Prohibit your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.14 from the place where he sits he watches al who dwel on the earth;
Turn away from evil, and do good. Inquire about peace, and pursue it.15 he alone moulds their hearts, he understands al they do.
The eyes of the Lord are on the just, and his ears are with their prayers.16 A large army wil not keep a king safe, nor his strength save a warrior's life;
But the countenance of the Lord is upon those who do evil, to perish the remembrance of them from the earth.17 it is delusion to rely on a horse for safety, for all its power it cannot save.
The just cried out, and the Lord heard them, and he freed them from all their tribulations.18 But see how Yahweh watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his faithful love,
The Lord is near to those who are troubled in heart, and he will save the humble in spirit.19 to rescue them from death and keep them alive in famine.
Many are the afflictions of the just, but from them all the Lord will free them.20 We are waiting for Yahweh; he is our help and our shield,
The Lord preserves all of their bones, not one of them shall be broken.21 for in him our heart rejoices, in his holy name we trust.
The death of a sinner is very harmful, and those who hate the just will fare badly.22 Yahweh, let your faithful love rest on us, as our hope has rested in you.
The Lord will redeem the souls of his servants, and none of those who hope in him will fare badly.
