Psalms 142

CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINDOUAI-RHEIMS
A Psalm of David, when his son Absalom was pursuing him. O Lord, hear my prayer. Incline your ear to my supplication in your truth. Heed me according to your justice.1 I have cried to the, O Lord, hear me: hearken to my voice, when I cry to thee.
And do not enter into judgment with your servant. For all the living will not be justified in your sight.2 Let my prayer be directed as incense in thy sight; the lifting up of my hands, as evening sacrifice.
For the enemy has pursued my soul. He has lowered my life to the earth. He has stationed me in darkness, like the dead of ages past.3 Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth: and a door round about my lips.
And my spirit has been in anguish over me. My heart within me has been disturbed.4 Incline not my heart to evil words; to make excuses in sins. With men that work iniquity: and I will not communicate with the choicest of them.
I have called to mind the days of antiquity. I have been meditating on all your works. I have meditated on the workings of your hands.5 The just shall correct me in mercy, and shall reprove me: but let not the oil of the sinner fatten my head. For my prayer also shall still be against the things with which they are well pleased:
I have extended my hands to you. My soul is like a land without water before you.6 their judges falling upon the rock have been swallowed up. They shall hear my words, for they have prevailed:
O Lord, heed me quickly. My spirit has grown faint. Do not turn your face away from me, lest I become like those who descend into the pit.7 as when the thickness of the earth is broken up upon the ground: Our bones are scattered by the side of hell.
Make me hear your mercy in the morning. For I have hoped in you. Make known to me the way that I should walk. For I have lifted up my soul to you.8 But o to thee, O Lord, Lord, are my eyes: in thee have I put my trust, take not away my soul.
O Lord, rescue me from my enemies. I have fled to you.9 Keep me from the snare, which they have laid for me, and from the stumblingblocks of them that work iniquity.
Teach me to do your will. For you are my God. Your good Spirit will lead me into the righteous land.10 The wicked shall fall in his net: I am alone until I pass.
For the sake of your name, O Lord, you will revive me in your fairness. You will lead my soul out of tribulation.
And you will scatter my enemies in your mercy. And you will destroy all those who afflict my soul. For I am your servant.
