Job 23

1 Then Job answered by saying:	1 E GIOBBE rispose, e disse:
2 Now again my conversation is in bitterness, and the force of my scourging weighs more heavily on me because of my mourning.	2 Ancor oggi il mio lamento è ribellione; Benchè la mia piaga sia aggravata sopra i miei sospiri.
3 Who will grant me that I might know and find him, and that I may approach even to his throne?	3 Oh! sapessi io pure ove trovare Iddio! Io andrei infino al suo trono;
4 I would place judgment before his eye, and my mouth would fill with criticism,	4 Io sporrei per ordine la mia ragione nel suo cospetto, Ed empierei la mia bocca di argomenti;
5 so that I may know the words that he will answer me and understand what he will say to me.	5 Io saprei le parole ch’egli mi risponderebbe, E intenderei ciò ch’egli mi direbbe.
6 I do not want him to contend with me with much strength, nor to overwhelm me with the bulk of his greatness.	6 Contenderebbe egli meco con grandezza di forza? No; anzi egli avrebbe riguardo a me.
7 Let him show fairness in response to me, and let my judgment reach to victory.	7 Ivi l’uomo diritto verrebbe a ragione con lui, Ed io sarei in perpetuo liberato dal mio giudice
8 If I go to the east, he does not appear; if I go to the west, I will not understand him.	8 Ecco, se io vo innanzi, egli non vi è; Se indietro, io non lo scorgo;
9 If I turn to the left, what can I do? I will not take hold of him. If I turn myself to the right, I will not see him.	9 Se a man sinistra, quando egli opera, io nol veggo; Se a man destra, egli si nasconde, ed io non posso vederlo.
10 Truly, he knows my way and has tested me like gold that passes through fire.	10 Quando egli avrà conosciuta la mia via, E mi avrà esaminato, io uscirò fuori come oro.
11 My feet have been following his footsteps; I have kept to his way and have not strayed from it.	11 Il mio piè si è attenuto alle sue pedate; Io ho guardata la sua via, e non me ne son rivolto.
12 I have not withdrawn from the commands of his lips, and the words of his mouth I have hidden in my sinews.	12 Ed anche non ho rimosso d’innanzi a me il comandamento delle sue labbra; Io ho riposte appo me le parole della sua bocca, Più caramente che la mia provvisione ordinaria
13 For he is alone, and no one is able to disturb his intention; and whatever his spirit wills, that he accomplishes.	13 Ma, se egli è in un proponimento, chi ne lo storrà? Se l’anima sua desidera di fare una cosa, egli la farà.
14 And when he fulfills his will in me, many other similar ones will also be present with him.	14 Egli certo compierà ciò ch’egli ha statuito di me; E molte tali cose sono appo lui.
15 And, for this reason, I have been troubled at his presence, and, when I consider him, I am approached by fear.	15 Perciò io sono smarrito per cagion di lui; Se io ci penso, io ho spavento di lui.
16 God has weakened my heart, and the Almighty has confused me.	16 Certo Iddio mi ha fatto struggere il cuore, E l’Onnipotente mi ha conturbato.
17 Yet I have not perished because of the threatening darkness, nor has gloom covered my face.	17 Perchè non sono io stato troncato, per non veder le tenebre? E perchè ha egli nascosta l’oscurità d’innanzi a me?
