1 Truly, Adam knew his wife Eve, who conceived and gave birth to Cain, saying, “I have obtained a man through God.”	1 Adán conoció a Eva, su mujer, que concibió y dio a luz a Caín. Y ella dijo: «He adquirido un hombre con la ayuda del Señor».
2 And again she gave birth to his brother Abel. But Abel was a pastor of sheep, and Cain was a farmer.	2 Después dio a luz a Abel, su hermano. Abel era pastor de ovejas, y Caín cultivaba el suelo.
3 Then it happened, after many days, that Cain offered gifts to the Lord, from the fruits of the earth.	3 Pasado un tiempo, Caín ofreció al Señor dones de los frutos del suelo;
4 Abel likewise offered from the firstborn of his flock, and from their fat. And the Lord looked with favor on Abel and his gifts.	4 también Abel ofreció las primicias y la grasa de sus ovejas. El Señor se fijó en Abel y en su ofrenda,
5 Yet in truth, he did not look with favor on Cain and his gifts. And Cain was vehemently angry, and his countenance fell.	5 pero no se fijó en Caín ni en su ofrenda; Caín se enfureció y andaba abatido.
6 And the Lord said to him: “Why are you angry? And why is your face fallen?	6 El Señor dijo a Caín: «¿Por qué te enfureces y andas abatido?
7 If you behave well, will you not receive? But if you behave badly, will not sin at once be present at the door? And so its desire will be within you, and you will be dominated by it.”	7 ¿No estarías animado si obraras bien?; pero, si no obras bien, el pecado acecha a la puerta y te codicia, aunque tú podrás dominarlo».
8 And Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let us go outside.” And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and he put him to death.	8 Caín dijo a su hermano Abel: «Vamos al campo». Y, cuando estaban en el campo, Caín atacó a su hermano Abel y lo mató.
9 And the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” And he responded: “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”	9 El Señor dijo a Caín: «¿Dónde está Abel, tu hermano?». Respondió Caín: «No sé; ¿soy yo el guardián de mi hermano?».
10 And he said to him: “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to me from the land.	10 El Señor le replicó: «¿Qué has hecho? La sangre de tu hermano me está gritando desde el suelo.
11 Now, therefore, you will be cursed upon the land, which opened its mouth and received the blood of your brother at your hand.	11 Por eso te maldice ese suelo que ha abierto sus fauces para recibir de tus manos la sangre de tu hermano.
12 When you work it, it will not give you its fruit; a vagrant and a fugitive shall you be upon the land.”	12 Cuando cultives el suelo, no volverá a darte sus productos. Andarás errante y perdido por la tierra».
13 And Cain said to the Lord: “My iniquity is too great to deserve kindness.	13 Caín contestó al Señor: «Mi culpa es demasiado grande para soportarla.
14 Behold, you have cast me out this day before the face of the earth, and from your face I will be hidden; and I will be a vagrant and a fugitive on the earth. Therefore, anyone who finds me will kill me.”	14 Puesto que me expulsas hoy de este suelo, tendré que ocultarme de ti, andar errante y perdido por la tierra, y cualquiera que me encuentre me matará».
15 And the Lord said to him: “By no means will it be so; rather, whoever would kill Cain, will be punished sevenfold.” And the Lord placed a seal upon Cain, so that anyone who found him would not put him to death.	15 El Señor le dijo: «El que mate a Caín lo pagará siete veces». Y el Señor puso una señal a Caín para que, si alguien lo encontraba, no lo matase.
16 And so Cain, departing from the face of the Lord, lived as a fugitive on the earth, toward the eastern region of Eden.	16 Caín salió de la presencia del Señor y habitó en Nod, al este de Edén.
17 Then Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. And he built a city, and he called its name by the name of his son, Enoch.	17 Caín conoció a su mujer; ella concibió y dio a luz a Henoc. Caín estaba edificando una ciudad y le puso el nombre de su hijo Henoc.
18 Thereafter, Enoch conceived Irad, and Irad conceived Mahujael, and Mahujael conceived Mathusael, and Mathusael conceived Lamech.	18 A Henoc le nació Irad, e Irad engendró a Mejuyael; Mejuyael engendró a Metusael, y Metusael engendró a Lamec.
19 Lamech took two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the other was Zillah.	19 Lamec tomó dos mujeres: una se llamaba Ada y la otra Sila.
20 And Adah conceived Jabel, who was the father of those who live in tents and are shepherds.	20 Ada dio a luz a Yabel, que fue el padre de los que habitan en tiendas con ganados.
21 And the name of his brother was Jubal; he was the father of those who sing to the harp and the organ.	21 Su hermano se llamaba Yubal, que fue el padre de los que tocan la cítara y la flauta.
22 Zillah also conceived Tubalcain, who was a hammerer and artisan in every work of brass and iron. In fact, the sister of Tubalcain was Noema.	22 Sila, a su vez, dio a luz a Tubalcaín, forjador de herramientas de cobre y hierro; la hermana de Tubalcaín era Naama.
23 And Lamech said to his wives Adah and Zillah: “Listen to my voice, you wives of Lamech, pay attention to my speech. For I have killed a man to my own harm, and an adolescent to my own bruising.	23 Lamec dijo a sus mujeres: «Ada y Sila, escuchad mi voz; | mujeres de Lamec, prestad oído a mi palabra. | A un hombre he matado por herirme, | y a un joven por golpearme. |
24 Sevenfold vengeance will be given for Cain, but for Lamech, seventy-seven times.”	24 Caín será vengado siete veces, | y Lamec setenta y siete».
25 Adam also knew his wife again, and she gave birth to a son, and she called his name Seth, saying, “God has given me another offspring, in place of Abel, whom Cain killed.”	25 Adán conoció otra vez a su mujer, que dio a luz un hijo y lo llamó Set, pues dijo: «Dios me ha dado otro descendiente en lugar de Abel, asesinado por Caín».
26 But to Seth also was born a son, whom he called Enos. This one began to invoke the name of the Lord.	26 A Set le nació también un hijo, que se llamó Enós. Por entonces se comenzó a invocar el nombre del Señor.
