Luke 9

1 He cal ed the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases,	1 Convocati, poi, i dodici, diede loro potere ed autorità su tutti i demoni e di guarire malattie.
2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.	2 E li mandò a proclamare il regno di Dio e a guarire gli infermi,
3 He said to them, 'Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; anddo not have a spare tunic.	3 e disse loro: «Non prendete con voi nulla per il viaggio, né bastone né bisaccia né pine né danaro, né abbiate ciascuno due tuniche.
4 Whatever house you enter, stay there; and when you leave let your departure be from there.	4 In qualunque casa voi entriate, là restate e di là partite;
5 As for those who do not welcome you, when you leave their town shake the dust from your feet asevidence against them.'	5 quanto a quelli che non vi accolgono, nell’uscire da quella città scuotete la polvere dai vostri piedi in testimonianza contro di essi».
6 So they set out and went from village to vil age proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.	6 Essi, dunque, partirono e andavano di villaggio in villaggio, dappertutto annunziando la buona novella e operando guarigioni.
7 Meanwhile Herod the tetrarch had heard about al that was going on; and he was puzzled, becausesome people were saying that John had risen from the dead,	7 Ora, Erode il tetrarca udì tutto ciò che accadeva e ne era perplesso, perché alcuni dicevano: «Giovanni è risorto di tra i morti»;
8 others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.	8 altri: «È apparso Elia»; altri ancora: «È risorto uno degli antichi profeti».
9 But Herod said, 'John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?' And he was anxiousto see him.	9 Ma Erode disse: «Giovanni l’ho decapitato io. Chi è dunque costui del quale odo tali cose?» E cercava di vederlo.
10 On their return the apostles gave him an account of al they had done. Then he took them with him andwithdrew towards a town called Bethsaida where they could be by themselves.	10 Al loro ritorno, gli apostoli raccontarono a Gesù tutto ciò che avevano fatto. E, presili con sé, si appartò, in direzione di una città chiamata Bethsaida.
11 But the crowds got to know and they went after him. He made them welcome and talked to them aboutthe kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing.	11 Ma le folle lo seppero e lo seguirono; egli le accolse e parlava loro del regno di Dio e guariva quelli che ne avevano bisogno.
12 It was late afternoon when the Twelve came up to him and said, 'Send the people away, and they cango to the vil ages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.'	12 Intanto la giornata era alla fine. I dodici gli si avvicinarono e dissero: «Congeda la folla, affinché vadano nei villaggi e nelle borgate dei dintorni per trovare alloggio e nutrimento, poiché qui siamo in un luogo deserto».
13 He replied, 'Give them something to eat yourselves.' But they said, 'We have no more than five loavesand two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for al these people.'	13 Ma egli disse: «Date loro da mangiare voi!» Ed essi: «Noi abbiamo soltanto cinque pani e due pesci; a meno che non dobbiamo andare noi stessi a comprare viveri per tutta questa gente».
14 For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, 'Get them to sit down in parties ofabout fifty.'	14 Si trattava, infatti, di circa cinquemila uomini. Allora Gesù disse ai suoi discepoli: «Fateli distendere a gruppi di una cinquantina».
15 They did so and made them al sit down.	15 Così fecero e li fecero distendere tutti.
16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing overthem; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd.	16 Prendendo, allora, i cinque pani e i cinque pesci Gesù levò gli occhi al cielo, recitò la benedizione, li spezzò e li dava ai suoi discepoli perché li distribuissero alla folla.
17 They al ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps left over were col ected they fil ed twelvebaskets.	17 Tutti mangiarono a sazietà, e dei pezzi avanzati ne furono portate via dodici ceste.
18 Now it happened that he was praying alone, and his disciples came to him and he put this question tothem, 'Who do the crowds say I am?'	18 E avvenne che, mentre Gesù stava pregando in disparte, i discepoli erano insieme con lui ed egli li interrogò: «Chi dicono le folle che io sia?»
19 And they answered, 'Some say John the Baptist; others Elijah; others again one of the ancientprophets come back to life.'	19 Risposero: «Chi dice Giovanni Battista, chi Elia, chi uno degli antichi profeti risorto».
20 'But you,' he said to them, 'who do you say I am?' It was Peter who spoke up. 'The Christ of God,' hesaid.	20 Ed egli a loro: «Ma voi, chi dite che io sia?» Pietro rispose: «Il Messia di Dio».
21 But he gave them strict orders and charged them not to say this to anyone.	21 Gesù allora intimò loro di non dirlo a nessuno.
22 He said, 'The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priestsand scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.'	22 «Il Figlio dell’uomo — disse — deve molto soffrire, essere rigettato dagli anziani, dai gran sacerdoti e dagli scribi, essere ucciso e risorgere il terzo giorno».
23 Then, speaking to al , he said, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himself andtake up his cross every day and fol ow me.	23 Diceva poi a tutti: «Chi vuole seguirmi rinneghi se stesso e prenda la sua croce ogni giorno e mi segua.
24 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, wil save it.	24 Poiché chi vuol salvare la sua vita la perderà, ma chi perderà la sua vita per causa mia la salverà.
25 What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self?	25 Che giova, infatti, all’uomo guadagnare il mondo intero se perde o rovina se stesso?
26 For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man wil be ashamed when hecomes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.	26 Poiché se uno si vergognerà di me e delle mie parole, il Figlio dell’uomo si vergognerà di lui quando verrà nella gloria sua e del Padre e dei santi angeli.
27 'I tel you truly, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the kingdom ofGod.'	27 In verità vi dico: vi sono alcuni tra i qui presenti che non gusteranno la morte prima di aver visto il regno di Dio».
28 Now about eight days after this had been said, he took with him Peter, John and James and went upthe mountain to pray.	28 Avvenne poi, circa otto giorni dopo questi discorsi, che Gesù, presi con sé Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni, salì sulla montagna a pregare.
29 And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing becamesparkling white.	29 Mentre pregava, il suo volto prese un altro aspetto e il vestito divenne di un bianco lampeggiante.
30 And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah	30 Ed ecco, due uomini erano in colloquio con lui: erano Mosè ed Elia,
31 appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.	31 che, apparsi nella gloria, parlavano del trapasso che egli doveva compiere a Gerusalemme.
32 Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two menstanding with him.	32 Ora, Pietro e i suoi compagni erano oppressi dal sonno ma, svegliatisi, videro la sua gloria e i due uomini che stavano con lui.
33 As these were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, 'Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let usmake three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.' He did not know what he was saying.	33 Mentre questi si accomiatavano da lui, Pietro disse a Gesù: «Maestro, è bene per noi star qui; faremo tre tende: una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia». Non sapeva quel che diceva.
34 As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into thecloud the disciples were afraid.	34 Mentre parlava così, venne una nube che li ricopriva con la sua ombra ed essi si spaventarono quando entrarono nella nube.
35 And a voice came from the cloud saying, 'This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.'	35 È dalla nube venne una voce che diceva: «Questi è il mio Figlio, l’Eletto. Ascoltatelo»
36 And after the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. The disciples kept silence and, at that time,told no one what they had seen.	36 Mentre risuonava la voce, Gesù si trovò solo. Ed essi mantennero il silenzio, e in quei giorni non raccontarono a nessuno nulla di quanto avevano veduto.
37 Now it happened that on the fol owing day when they were coming down from the mountain a largecrowd came to meet him.	37 Avvenne poi, il giorno dopo, che, quando discesero dalla montagna, molta gente si fece incontro a Gesù.
38 And suddenly a man in the crowd cried out. 'Master,' he said, 'I implore you to look at my son: he is myonly child.	38 Ed ecco un uomo dalla folla si mise a gridare: «Maestro, ti prego di volgere gli occhi su mio figlio: è il mio figlio unico!
39 A spirit wil suddenly take hold of him, and all at once it gives a sudden cry and throws the boy intoconvulsions with foaming at the mouth; it is slow to leave him, but when it does, it leaves the boy worn out.	39 Ed ecco, uno spirito se ne impossessa e all’improvviso grida, lo sbatte e lo fa schiumare e a stento lo abbandona lasciandolo pesto.
40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, and they could not.'	40 Ho pregato i tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non hanno potuto».
41 In reply Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be among you andput up with you? Bring your son here.'	41 Gesù rispose: «Generazione incredula e perversa! fino a quando sarò tra voi e vi sopporterò? Conduci qui tuo figlio».
42 Even while the boy was coming, the devil threw him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebukedthe unclean spirit and cured the boy and gave him back to his father,	42 Quello si stava avvicinando, quando il demonio lo sbatté a terra in convulsioni. Allora Gesù minacciò lo spirito immondo, guarì il fanciullo e lo restituì al padre.
43 and everyone was awestruck by the greatness of God. But while everyone was ful of admiration for alhe did, he said to his disciples,	43 E tutti erano sbalorditi dinanzi alla grandezza di Dio. Mentre tutti erano pieni di meraviglia per tutto ciò che egli faceva, disse ai suoi discepoli:
44 'For your part, you must have these words constantly in mind: The Son of man is going to be deliveredinto the power of men.'	44 «Ponetevi bene negli orecchi queste parole: di Figlio dell’uomo sta per essere consegnato nelle mani degli uomini».
45 But they did not understand what he said; it was hidden from them so that they should not see themeaning of it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.	45 Ma essi non comprendevano questo che diceva e che restava velato ad essi in modo da non poterlo intendere, e temevano di interrogarlo a questo proposito.
46 An argument started between them about which of them was the greatest.	46 Ora, un pensiero entrò in essi: chi di loro poteva essere il più grande.
47 Jesus knew what thoughts were going through their minds, and he took a little child whom he set byhis side	47 Ma Gesù, conoscendo il pensiero del loro cuore, attirò a sé un bambino, se lo pose accanto
48 and then he said to them, 'Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; andanyone who welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. The least among you all is the one who is thegreatest.'	48 e disse loro: «Chi accoglie questo bambino nel mio nome accoglie me, e chi accoglie me accoglie colui ché mi ha mandato; poiché chi è più piccolo fra tutti voi, questi è grande».
49 John spoke up. 'Master,' he said, 'we saw someone driving out devils in your name, and because he isnot with us we tried to stop him.'	49 Giovanni, allora, prese la parola e disse: «Maestro, abbiamo visto un tale scacciare demoni nel nome tuo e abbiamo tentato di impedirglielo perché non è nostro seguace».
50 But Jesus said to him, 'You must not stop him: anyone who is not against you is for you.'	50 Ma Gesù gli disse: «Non glielo impedite, perché chi non è contro di voi è con voi».
51 Now it happened that as the time drew near for him to be taken up, he resolutely turned his facetowards Jerusalem	51 Avvenne poi che, compiendosi per lui il tempo di esser tolto dal mondo, egli fece il viso duro e si diresse verso Gerusalemme;
52 and sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan vil age to makepreparations for him,	52 e mandò dinanzi a sé dei messaggeri. Costoro, messisi in cammino, entrarono in un villaggio di Samaritani per fare i preparativi per lui;
53 but the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem.	53 ma Gesù non fu accolto perché era diretto a Gerusalemme.
54 Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, 'Lord, do you want us to cal down fire from heaven toburn them up?'	54 Vedendo ciò, i discepoli Giacomo e Giovanni dissero: «Signore, vuoi che ordiniamo al fuoco di discendere dal cielo e di distruggerli?»
55 But he turned and rebuked them,	55 Ma egli, voltosi a loro, li rimproverò.
56 and they went on to another village.	56 E partirono per un altro villaggio.
57 As they travel ed along they met a man on the road who said to him, 'I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	57 Mentre erano in cammino, sulla strada un tale gli disse: «Io ti seguirò dovunque tu vada».
58 Jesus answered, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hasnowhere to lay his head.'	58 Gesù gli disse: «Le volpi hanno tane e gli uccelli del cielo hanno nidi; il Figlio dell’uomo non ha dove posare il capo».
59 Another to whom he said, 'Fol ow me,' replied, 'Let me go and bury my father first.'	59 A un altro, poi, disse: «Seguimi». Costui rispose: «Permettimi di andare prima a seppellire mio padre».
60 But he answered, 'Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of thekingdom of God.'	60 Gesù gli disse: «Lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti; tu vattene ad annunziare il regno di Dio».
61 Another said, 'I wil fol ow you, sir, but first let me go and say good -- bye to my people at home.'	61 Un altro ancora gli disse: «Ti seguirò, Signore, ma prima permettimi di accomiatarmi dai miei di casa».
62 Jesus said to him, 'Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom ofGod.'	62 Gesù gli rispose: «Chiunque guarda indietro mentre mette mano all’aratro è inadatto per il regno di Dio».
