NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Sagrada
1 How the gold has tarnished, how the fine gold has changed! The sacred stones lie scattered at thecorner of every street.	1 (Álef) ¡Cómo se ha deslucido el oro, | cómo ha cambiado el oro más puro!; | las piedras sagradas se han esparcido | por las esquinas de las calles.
2 The children of Zion, as precious as finest gold -- to think that they should now be reckoned likecrockery made by a potter!	2 (Bet) Los hijos de Sión, los honorables, | valiosos como el oro fino, | son considerados como cacharros de barro, | obra de alfarero.
3 The very jackals give the breast, and suckle their young: but the daughter of my people is as cruel asthe ostriches of the desert.	3 (Guímel) Hasta los chacales ofrecen las ubres | y amamantan a sus cachorros; | pero la hija de mi pueblose ha vuelto cruel | como los avestruces del desierto.
4 The tongue of the baby at the breast sticks to its palate for thirst; little children ask for bread, no onegives them any.	4 (Dálet)A los niños de pecho | se les pega la lengua al paladar por la sed; | los pequeños piden pan, | y no hay quien se lo dé.
5 Those who used to eat only the best, now lie dying in the streets; those who were reared in the purpleclaw at the rubbish heaps,	5 (He) Los que comían manjares exquisitos | desfallecen por las calles; | los que se habían criado entre púrpuras | se revuelcan en la basura.
6 for the wickedness of the daughter of my people exceeded the sins of Sodom, which was overthrown ina moment without a hand being laid on it.	6 (Vau) La culpa de la hija de mi pueblo | es más grave que el pecado de Sodoma, | que fue derribada en un momento | sin que mano alguna la tocara.
7 Once her young people were brighter than snow, whiter than milk; rosier than coral their bodies, theirhue like sapphire.	7 (Zain)Brillaban sus consagrados más que la nieve, | blanqueaban más que la leche; | su cuerpo era más rojo que el coral, | su aspecto como el zafiro.
8 Now their faces are blacker than soot, they are not recognised in the streets, the skin has shrunk overtheir bones, as dry as a stick.	8 (Jet) Ahora están más negros que el carbón, | no se los reconoce por las calles; | su piel se ha pegado a sus huesos, | está seca como la leña.
9 Happier those killed by the sword than those kil ed by famine: they waste away, sunken for lack of thefruits of the earth.	9 (Tet) Más suerte tuvieron los muertos a espada | que las víctimas del hambre, | que caen extenuadas | por la falta de alimento.
10 With their own hands, kindly women cooked their children; this was their food when the daughter ofmy people was ruined.	10 (Yod) Manos de piadosas mujeres | cocieron a sus hijos; | ellos fueron su alimento | mientras caía la hija de mi pueblo.
11 Yahweh indulged his fury, he vented his fierce anger, he lit a fire in Zion which devoured herfoundations.	11 (Kaf) El Señor apuró su furor, | derramó el ardor de su ira; | prendió un fuego en Sión | que devora sus cimientos.
12 The kings of the earth never believed, nor did any of the inhabitants of the world, that foe or enemywould ever penetrate the gates of Jerusalem.	12 (Lámed) Nunca creyeron los reyes de la tierra, | ni los habitantes del orbe, | que adversarios y enemigos | entrarían por las puertas de Jerusalén.
13 Owing to the sins of her prophets and the crimes of her priests, who had shed the blood of the upright,in the heart of the city,	13 (Mem) Ocurrió por los pecados de sus profetas | y las culpas de sus sacerdotes, | que derramaron en medio de ella | sangre inocente.
14 they wandered blindly through the streets, polluted with blood, so that no one dared to touch theirclothes.	14 (Nun) Como ciegos vagaban por las calles, | manchados de sangre, | sin que nadie pudiera | tocar sus vestidos.
15 'Keep away! Unclean!' people shouted, 'Keep away! Keep away! Don't touch!' If they left and fled tothe nations, they were not al owed to stay there either.	15 (Sámek) «¡Apartaos! ¡Impuro! —les gritaban—. | ¡Apartaos, apartaos! ¡No toquéis!». | Y al huir errantes por las naciones, | les decían: «¡Marchaos de aquí!».
16 The face of Yahweh destroyed them, he wil look on them no more. There was no respect for thepriests, no deference for the elders.	16 (Pe) El rostro del Señor los ha dispersado | y no volverá a mirarlos; | no se respeta a los sacerdotes, | nadie se compadece de los ancianos.
17 Continual y we were wearing out our eyes, watching for help -- in vain. From our towers we watchedfor a nation which could not save us anyway.	17 (Ayin) Nuestros ojos se consumían | aguardando una ayuda, ¡vana ilusión!; | desde nuestras atalayas oteábamos a un pueblo | incapaz de socorrer.
18 Men dogged our steps, to keep us out of our streets. Our end was near, our days were done, our endhad come.	18 (Sade) Acechaban nuestros pasos | y no podíamos caminarpor nuestras plazas; | se acercaba nuestro final, se nos agotaba el tiempo; | sí, llegaba nuestro fin.
19 Our pursuers were swifter than eagles in the sky; they hounded our steps through the mountains, theylay in ambush for us in the wilds.	19 (Qof) Nuestros perseguidores, | más rápidos que las águilas del cielo, | nos hostigaban por los montes, | nos tendían emboscadas en el desierto.
20 The breath of our nostrils, Yahweh's anointed, was caught in their traps, he of whom we said, 'In hisshadow we shall live among the nations.'	20 (Res) El que era nuestro aliento, el Ungido del Señor, | ha caído apresado en sus fosas; | aquel de quien decíamos: | «¡A su sombra viviremos entre las naciones!».
21 Rejoice, exult, daughter of Edom, you who reside in Uz! To you in turn the cup wil pass; you wil getdrunk and strip yourself naked!	21 (Sin) ¡Alégrate y salta de júbilo, hija de Edón, | que moras en la tierra de Us!; | también a ti llegará la copa, | te embriagarás y quedarás desnuda.
22 Your wickedness is atoned for, daughter of Zion, he will never banish you again. But your wickedness,daughter of Edom, wil he punish, your sins he will lay bare!	22 (Tau) Expiada está tu culpa, hija de Sión; | el Señor no volverá a desterrarte; | juzgará tu culpa, hija de Edón, | y dejará al descubierto tus pecados.
