Proverbs 22

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Fame is preferable to great wealth, favour, to silver and gold.	1 - Vale più il buon nome che le grandi ricchezze; e la buona grazia è al disopra dell'oro e dell'argento.
2 Rich and poor rub shoulders, Yahweh has made them both.	2 Il ricco e il povero si sono incontrati; li ha fatti tutti e due il Signore.
3 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.	3 L'accorto vide il male e si ritrasse al riparo; il semplice passò oltre e pagò il fio.
4 The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, and riches, honour and life.	4 Premio dell'umiltà è il timor di Dio, la ricchezza, la gloria e la vita.
5 Thorns and snares line the path of the wilful, whoever values life will stay at a distance.	5 Armi e spade sono sulla via del perverso; chi vuol salvaguardare l'anima sua ne sta lontano.
6 Give a lad a training suitable to his character and, even when old, he wil not go back on it.	6 Dice il proverbio: «Il giovinetto secondo la via che ha presa, anche quando sarà invecchiato non se ne scosterà».
7 The rich lords it over the poor, the borrower is the lender's slave.	7 Il ricco sui poveri signoreggia, e chi toglie a prestito è schiavo di chi presta.
8 Whoever sows injustice reaps disaster, and the rod of such anger wil disappear.	8 Chi semina il male, miete malannie la verga dell'ira sua si consumerà.
9 A kindly eye wil earn a blessing, such a person shares out food with the poor.	9 Chi è inchinevole a compassione sarà benedetto; perchè ha dato il suo pane al povero. Acquisterà trionfo ed onore chi prodiga doni, ma fa violenza all'animo di chi li riceve.
10 Expel the mocker and strife goes too, law-suits and dislike die down.	10 Scaccia lo schernitore e se ne uscirà con lui la contesa, e cesseranno le liti e le ingiurie.
11 Whoever loves the pure of heart and is gracious of speech has the king for a friend.	11 Chi ama il candore del cuore, per la grazia delle sue labbra avrà amico il re.
12 Yahweh's eyes protect knowledge, but he confounds deceitful speeches.	12 Gli occhi di Dio custodiscono la scienza, e sovvertono le parole del perfido.
13 'There is a lion outside,' says the idler, 'I shal be kil ed in the street!'	13 Dice il pigro: «C'è il leone fuori; sarò sbranato in mezzo alla piazza».
14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit, into it fal s the man whom Yahweh rebukes.	14 Fossa profonda è la bocca della cortigiana; chi è in ira a Dio ci cascherà dentro.
15 Fol y is anchored in the heart of a youth, the whip of instruction wil rid him of it.	15 La stoltezza è legata al cuore del fanciullo e la verga della disciplina la scoterà di dosso.
16 Harsh treatment enriches the poor, but a gift impoverishes the rich.	16 Chi opprime il povero per aumentare le proprie ricchezzele cederà poi a uno più ricco a suo scapito.
17 Give ear, listen to the sayings of the sages, and apply your heart to what I know,	17 Porgi il tuo orecchio ed ascolta le parole dei sapienti, poni mente alla mia scienza;
18 for it wil be a delight to keep them deep within you to have them al ready on your lips.	18 sarà bello per te, se la conserverai nel tuo cuore, e rifluirà copiosa sulle labbra.
19 So that your trust may be in Yahweh, it is you whom I wish to instruct today.	19 Acciò sia in Dio la tua speranza, per questo ho voluto ancora oggi spiegartela.
20 Have I not written for you thirty chapters of advice and knowledge,	20 Ecco io te l'ho descritta ben a varie riprese, con riflessioni e con scienza,
21 to make you know the certainty of true sayings, so that you can return with sound answers to thosewho sent you?	21 per mostrarti la certezza e le parole di verità, e per rispondere con questo, a quelli che ti mandarono.
22 Do not despoil the weak, for he is weak, and do not oppress the poor at the gate,	22 Non usar violenza al povero perchè è povero e non opprimere il misero alla porta;
23 for Yahweh takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.	23 perchè il Signore difenderà la sua causa, e affliggerà coloro che l'hanno afflitto.
24 Do not make friends with one who gives way to anger, make no one quick-tempered a companion ofyours,	24 Non farti amico dell'uomo iracondo, e con persona furiosa non andare;
25 for fear you learn such behaviour and in it find a snare for yourself.	25 affinchè non impari le sue maniere, e non trovi inciampo all'anima tua.
26 Do not be one of those who go guarantor, who go surety for debts:	26 Non essere tra quelli che stringono la mano e che si offrono mallevadori pei debiti.
27 if you have no means of paying your bed wil be taken from under you.	27 Che se non hai onde restituireperchè farti portar via la coperta del giaciglio?
28 Do not displace the ancient boundary-stone set by your ancestors.	28 Non oltrepassare i termini antichi, che posero i padri tuoi.
29 You see someone alert at his business? His aim wil be to serve kings; not for him the service of theobscure.	29 Hai tu visto un uomo lesto nelle sue faccende? starà nel cospetto dei re e non sarà per la gente ignobile.
