[Poem Of Asaph] God, why have you final y rejected us, your anger blazing against the flock you usedto pasture?1 [Weisheitslied von Asaph.] Warum, o Gott, hast du für immer verstoßen, lodert dein Zorn wider die Schafe deiner Weide?
Remember the people you took to yourself long ago, your own tribe which you redeemed, and thisMount Zion where you came to live.2 Gedenke deiner Gemeinde, die du vor alters erworben, die du erkauft als Stamm dir zu eigen, des Berges Sion, auf dem du Wohnung genommen!
Come up to these endless ruins! The enemy have sacked everything in the sanctuary;3 Lenke deine Schritte zu den ewigen Trümmern! Alles hat der Feind im Heiligtum verwüstet.
your opponents made uproar in the place of assemblies, they fixed their emblems over the entrance,emblems4 Deine Widersacher lärmten an deiner Versammlungsstätte, stellten als Banner ihre Feldzeichen auf.
never known before. Their axes deep in the wood,5 Es sah aus, wie wenn man die Axt schwingt im Waldesdickicht.
hacking at the panels, they battered them down with axe and pick;6 Sie zerschlugen mit Beil und Hacke das gesamte Schnitzwerk.
they set fire to your sanctuary, profanely rased to the ground the dwel ing-place of your name.7 An dein Heiligtum legten sie Feuer, entweihten bis auf den Grund die Wohnstatt deines Namens.
They said to themselves, 'Let us crush them at one stroke!' They burned down every sacred shrine inthe land.8 Sie dachten bei sich: "Wir wollen sie insgesamt unterdrücken!" Sie verbrannten alle Gottesstätten im Lande.
We see no signs, no prophet any more, and none of us knows how long it wil last.9 Unsre eigenen Feldzeichen sehen wir nicht, kein Prophet ist mehr da, und keiner ist unter uns, der wüßte, wie lang es dauert.
How much longer, God, will the enemy blaspheme? Is the enemy to insult your name for ever?10 Wie lang, o Gott, darf der Gegner lästern, darf der Feind deinen Namen immerfort schmähen?
Why hold back your hand, keep your right hand hidden in the folds of your robe?11 Warum ziehst du deine Hand hinweg, hältst deine Rechte im Schoß zurück?
Yet, God, my king from the first, author of saving acts throughout the earth,12 Du, Herr, bist mein König seit je, der rettende Taten auf Erden vollbringt.
by your power you split the sea in two, and smashed the heads of the monsters on the waters.13 Du hast in deiner Kraft das Meer erschüttert, auf den Fluten die Köpfe der Drachen zerschmettert.
You crushed Leviathan's heads, gave him as food to the wild animals.14 Du hast des Seedrachen Köpfe zerschlagen, gabst ihn den Haien zum Fraße.
You released the springs and brooks, and turned primordial rivers into dry land.15 Du ließest aufbrechen Quelle und Bach und legtest nie versiegende Ströme trocken.
Yours is the day and yours the night, you caused sun and light to exist,16 Dein ist der Tag und dein auch die Nacht, du hast Leuchte und Sonne befestigt.
you fixed all the boundaries of the earth, you created summer and winter.17 Du hast alle Zonen der Erde bestimmt, Sommer und Winter hast du gemacht.
Remember, Yahweh, the enemy's blasphemy, a foolish people insults your name.18 So denke daran: Der Feind schmäht den Herrn, ein törichtes Volk lästert deinen Namen!
Do not surrender your turtledove to the beast; do not forget for ever the life of your oppressed people.19 Gib das Leben deiner Bekenner nicht dem Verderben preis, das Leben deiner Gebeugten vergiß nicht für immer!
Look to the covenant! Al the hiding-places of the land are ful , haunts of violence.20 Blicke auf deinen Bund! Denn angefüllt sind die finsteren Winkel des Landes als Stätten der Gewalttat.
Do not let the downtrodden retreat in confusion, give the poor and needy cause to praise your name.21 Laß den Unterdrückten nicht beschämt abziehen! Der Bedrängte und Arme preise deinen Namen!
Arise, God, champion your own cause, remember how fools blaspheme you all day long!22 Erhebe dich, Gott, führe deinen Streit! Denke daran, wie die Toren beständig dich schmähen!
Do not forget the shouting of your enemies, the ever-mounting uproar of your adversaries.23 Vergiß nicht das Lärmen deiner Widersacher! Das Toben deiner Gegner steigt dauernd empor.
