[For the choirmaster . . . Jeduthun Psalm Of David] In God alone there is rest for my soul, from himcomes my safety; | 1 Psalmus David, cum esset in deserto Idumææ. |
he alone is my rock, my safety, my stronghold so that I stand unshaken. | 2 Deus, Deus meus, ad te de luce vigilo. Sitivit in te anima mea ; quam multipliciter tibi caro mea ! |
How much longer wil you set on a victim, al together, intent on murder, like a rampart already leaningover, a wall already damaged? | 3 In terra deserta, et invia, et inaquosa, sic in sancto apparui tibi, ut viderem virtutem tuam et gloriam tuam. |
Trickery is their only plan, deception their only pleasure, with lies on their lips they pronounce ablessing, with a curse in their hearts.Pause | 4 Quoniam melior est misericordia tua super vitas, labia mea laudabunt te. |
Rest in God alone, my soul! He is the source of my hope. | 5 Sic benedicam te in vita mea, et in nomine tuo levabo manus meas. |
He alone is my rock, my safety, my stronghold, so that I stand unwavering. | 6 Sicut adipe et pinguedine repleatur anima mea, et labiis exsultationis laudabit os meum. |
In God is my safety and my glory, the rock of my strength. In God is my refuge; | 7 Si memor fui tui super stratum meum, in matutinis meditabor in te. |
trust in him, you people, at al times. Pour out your hearts to him, God is a refuge for us.Pause | 8 Quia fuisti adjutor meus, et in velamento alarum tuarum exsultabo. |
Ordinary people are a mere puff of wind, important people a delusion; set both on the scales together, and they are lighter than a puff of wind. | 9 Adhæsit anima mea post te ; me suscepit dextera tua. |
Put no trust in extortion, no empty hopes in robbery; however much wealth may multiply, do not setyour heart on it. | 10 Ipsi vero in vanum quæsierunt animam meam : introibunt in inferiora terræ ; |
Once God has spoken, twice have I heard this: Strength belongs to God, | 11 tradentur in manus gladii : partes vulpium erunt. |
to you, Lord, faithful love; and you repay everyone as their deeds deserve. | 12 Rex vero lætabitur in Deo ; laudabuntur omnes qui jurant in eo : quia obstructum est os loquentium iniqua. |
