[Psalm Of Asaph] The God of gods, Yahweh, is speaking, from east to west he summons the earth. | 1 Psalmus. Asaph. |
From Zion, perfection of beauty, he shines forth; | 2 Ex Sion speciosa decore Deus illuxit, |
he is coming, our God, and wil not be silent. Devouring fire ahead of him, raging tempest around him, | 3 Deus noster veniet et non silebit: ignis consumens est in conspectu eius, et in circuitu eius tempestas valida. |
he summons the heavens from on high, and the earth to judge his people. | 4 Advocabit caelum desursum et terram discernere populum suum: |
'Gather to me my faithful, who sealed my covenant by sacrifice.' | 5 “ Congregate mihi sanctos meos, qui disposuerunt testamentum meum in sacrificio ”. |
The heavens proclaim his saving justice, 'God himself is judge.'Pause | 6 Et annuntiabunt caeli iustitiam eius, quoniam Deus iudex est. |
'Listen, my people, I am speaking, Israel, I am giving evidence against you, I, God, your God. | 7 “ Audi, populus meus, et loquar, Israel, et testificabor adversum te: Deus, Deus tuus, ego sum. |
'It is not with your sacrifices that I find fault, those burnt offerings constantly before me; | 8 Non in sacrificiis tuis arguam te; holocausta enim tua in conspectu meo sunt semper. |
I will not accept any bul from your homes, nor a single goat from your folds. |
'For all forest creatures are mine already, the animals on the mountains in their thousands. | 10 Quoniam meae sunt omnes ferae silvarum, iumentorum mille in montibus. |
I know every bird in the air, whatever moves in the fields is mine. |
'If I am hungry I shall not tel you, since the world and all it holds is mine. |
Am I to eat the flesh of bul s or drink the blood of goats? | 13 Numquid manducabo carnes taurorum aut sanguinem hircorum potabo? |
'Let thanksgiving be your sacrifice to God, fulfil the vows you make to the Most High; | 14 Immola Deo sacrificium laudis et redde Altissimo vota tua; |
then if you call to me in time of trouble I wil rescue you and you wil honour me.' | 15 et invoca me in die tribulationis: eruam te, et honorificabis me ”. |
But to the wicked, God says: 'What right have you to recite my statutes, to take my covenant on yourlips, | 16 Peccatori autem dixit Deus: “ Quare tu enarras praecepta mea et assumis testamentum meum in os tuum? |
when you detest my teaching, and thrust my words behind you? | 17 Tu vero odisti disciplinam et proiecisti sermones meos retrorsum. |
'You make friends with a thief as soon as you see one, you feel at home with adulterers, | 18 Si videbas furem, currebas cum eo; et cum adulteris erat portio tua. |
your conversation is devoted to wickedness, and your tongue to inventing lies. |
'You sit there, slandering your own brother, you malign your own mother's son. | 20 Sedens adversus fratrem tuum loquebaris et adversus filium matris tuae proferebas opprobrium. |
You do this, and am I to say nothing? Do you think that I am really like you? I charge you, indict youto your face. | 21 Haec fecisti, et tacui. Existimasti quod eram tui similis. Arguam te et statuam illa contra faciem tuam. |
'Think it out, you who forget God, or I wil tear you apart without hope of a rescuer. |
Honour to me is a sacrifice of thanksgiving; to the upright I wil show God's salvation.' | 23 Qui immolabit sacrificium laudis, honorificabit me; et, qui immaculatus est in via, ostendam illi salutare Dei ”. |
