Nehemiah 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 In the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, since I was in charge of the wine, I tookthe wine and offered it to the king. Now, he had never seen me looking depressed before.	1 E fu fatto nel mese di Nisan (cioè aprile) nel vigesimo anno di Artaserse re; e lo vino era dinanzi a lui, e levai il vino e diedilo al re; ed era quasi infermo dinanzi la faccia sua.
2 So the king said to me, 'Why are you looking depressed? You are not sick! This must be a sadness ofthe heart.' Thoroughly alarmed by this,	2 E dissemi il re: perchè il volto tuo è tristo, concio sia che non ti veda infermo? questo non è sanza cagione, ma non so lo male che è nel tuo cuore. Ed ebbi una grande paura.
3 I said to the king, 'May the king live for ever! How can I not look depressed when the city where thetombs of my ancestors are lies in ruins and its gates have been burnt down?'	3 E dissi al re: re, vivi in eterno; perchè non debbe essere il volto mio tristo, chè la città de' sepolcri di mio padre è deserta, e le sue porte sono abbruciate al fuoco?
4 The king then said to me, 'What would you like me to do?' Praying to the God of heaven,	4 E dissemi il re: per qual cosa addomandi tu? E orai a Dio del cielo,
5 I said to the king, 'If the king approves and your servant enjoys your favour, send me to Judah, to thecity of the tombs of my ancestors, so that I can rebuild it.'	5 e dissi al re: se ti pare buono, signore mio re, e se il tuo servo ha trovato grazia nel cospetto tuo, che tu mi mandi in Giudea, alla città del sepolcro di mio padre, e sì la edificherò.
6 The king -- with the queen sitting beside him-said, 'How long wil your journey take, and when wil youcome back?' Once I had given him a definite time, the king approved my mission.	6 E dissemi lo re, e la regina che sedea appo lo re: persino a quan.o tempo durerà questa tua andata, e quando tornerai tu? E piacque nel cospetto del re, e mandommi; e diedigli lo tempo (della mia tornata).
7 I then said to the king, 'If the king approves, may I be given orders for the governors of Transeuphratesto let me pass through on my way to Judah?	7 E dissigli: se ti piace, signore mio re, di darmi una epistola alli duchi della regione la quale è di là del fiume, che mi conducano persino che vadi in Giudea,
8 Also an order for Asaph, keeper of the king's forest, to supply me with timber for the beams of the gatesof the citadel of the Temple, for the city wal s and for the house which I am to occupy?' These the king grantedme because the kindly hand of my God was over me.	8 e una epistola ad Asaf custode del bosco del re, che mi dia le legna, acciò ch' io possi coprire (e chiudere) le porte del tempio, e i muri della città, e la casa la qual entrerò per abitare. E diedemi il re secondo la buona mano del mio Iddio meco.
9 When I reached the governors of Transeuphrates, I gave them the king's orders. The king had sent anescort of army officers and cavalry along with me.	9 E venni alli duchi della regione di là dal fiume, e diedigli le epistole del re. E avea mandato meco il re i principi de' cavalieri, e li cavalieri.
10 When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the official of Ammon heard about this, they wereexceedingly displeased that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites.	10 E udirono Sanaballat Oronite e Tobia servo Ammanite; e contristorsi di una grande afflizione, che fosse venuto uno uomo lo quale cercasse la prosperità de' figliuoli d' Israel.
11 And so I reached Jerusalem. After I had been there three days,	11 E venni in Ierusalem, e stettivi tre dì.
12 I got up during the night with a few other men -- I had not told anyone what my God had inspired me todo for Jerusalem -- taking no animal with me other than my own mount.	12 E leva'mi di notte, e pochi uomini meco, e non dissi a persona quello che Dio mi avea dato nel cuore, ch' io dovessi fare in Ierusalem; e non avea giumento meco, salvo quello dove io sedea.
13 Under cover of dark I went out through the Val ey Gate towards the Dragon's Fountain as far as theDung Gate, and examined the wall of Jerusalem where it was broken down and its gates burnt out.	13 E uscì' fuori di notte per la porta della valle, e dinanzi alla fonte del dragone, e alla porta delle brutture; e considerava il muro di Ierusalem ruinato, e le sue porte consunte al fuoco.
14 I then crossed to the Fountain Gate and the King's Pool, but it was impassable to my mount.	14 E andai alla porta della fonte, e al condotto dell' acqua del re; e non era luogo allo animale dove sedea, per lo quale lo potesse passare.
15 So I went up the Val ey in the dark, examining the wal ; I then went in again through the Val ey Gate,coming back	15 E sali' suso per lo torrente la notte, e considerava il muro; e ritornato venni alla porta della valle, e ritornai.
16 without the officials knowing where I had gone or what I had been doing. So far I had said nothing tothe Jews: neither to the priests, the nobles, the officials nor any other persons involved in the undertaking.	16 Li magistrati non sapeano dove fossi ito, ovver quello ch' io mi facessi; ma e alli Giudei e alli sacerdoti e alli prìncipi e alli magistrati e a tutti gli operarii, persino a quella parte di tutti i luoghi, non gli avea manifestato altro.
17 I then said to them, 'You see what a sorry state we are in: Jerusalem is in ruins and its gates havebeen burnt down. Come on, we must rebuild the wal s of Jerusalem and put an end to our humiliating position!'	17 E dissi loro: voi avete conosciuta la afflizione nella qual noi siamo; però che Ierusalem è deserta, e le sue porte sono state abbruciate; venite, ed edifichiamo i muri di Ierusalem, e non stiamo più in questo obbrobrio.
18 And I told them how the kindly hand of my God had been over me, and the words which the king hadsaid to me. At this they said, 'Let us start building at once!' and they set their hands to the good work.	18 E manifestai loro la mano del mio Dio, ch' ella fosse buona meco, e le parole del re, le quali lui mi avea detto, e però dico: leviamoci, ed edifichiamo. E le loro mani furono (per questo) confortate in buono.
19 When Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the official of Ammon, and Geshem the Arab heard about this,they laughed at us and jeered. They said, 'What is this you are doing? Are you going to revolt against the king?'	19 E udirono Sanaballat Oronite e Tobia servo Ammanite e Gossem Arabo; e sì ci dileggiavano e dispregiavano, e dissero: che cosa è questa che voi fate? or ribellate voi contro al re?
20 But I gave them this answer, 'The God of heaven will grant us success and we, his servants, mean tostart building; as for you, you have neither share nor right nor memorial in Jerusalem.'	20 E io li risposi, e dissi loro: lo Iddio del cielo esso è quello che ci aiuta, e noi siamo suoi servi; leviamoci ed edifichiamo; (a) voi (non vi tocca questo, però che) non avete parte nè giustizia nè memoria in Ierusalem.
