1 Then David departed on his way, while Jonathan went back into the city.	1 David emprendió el camino, mientras Jonatán entraba en la ciudad.
2 David went to Ahimelech, the priest of Nob, who came trembling to meet him and asked, "Why are you alone? Is there no one with you?"	2 David llegó a Nob, donde se encontraba el sacerdote Ajimélec. Este salió con miedo a su encuentro, y le preguntó: «¿Cómo vienes solo y sin compañía?».
3 David answered the priest: "The king gave me a commission and told me to let no one know anything about the business on which he sent me or the commission he gave me. For that reason I have arranged a meeting place with my men.	3 David le respondió: «El rey me ha dado órdenes, diciéndome: “Nadie sepa nada del asunto al que te envío y de lo que te he ordenado”. A los criados, los he citado en tal lugar.
4 Now what have you on hand? Give me five loaves, or whatever you can find."	4 Y bien, ¿qué tienes a mano? Dame cinco panes o lo que haya».
5 But the priest replied to David, "I have no ordinary bread on hand, only holy bread; if the men have abstained from women, you may eat some of that."	5 El sacerdote le dijo: «No tengo a mano pan común, sino pan consagrado; bastaría con que los criados se hayan guardado al menos de mujer».
6 David answered the priest: "We have indeed been segregated from women as on previous occasions. Whenever I go on a journey, all the young men are consecrated--even for a secular journey. All the more so today, when they are consecrated at arms!"	6 David le respondió: «Ciertamente. Siempre que salgo a luchar, nos abstenemos de mujeres y los criados se mantienen puros. Aunque es un viaje profano, hoy están puros sus cuerpos».
7 So the priest gave him holy bread, for no other bread was on hand except the showbread which had been removed from the LORD'S presence and replaced by fresh bread when it was taken away.	7 El sacerdote le entregó el pan consagrado, pues no había otro pan que el de la proposición, que se retira de la presencia del Señor para poner pan reciente ese día.
8 One of Saul's servants was there that day, detained before the LORD; his name was Doeg the Edomite, and he was Saul's chief henchman.	8 Aquel día se encontraba allí uno de los servidores de Saúl, detenido ante el Señor. Se llamaba Doeg, edomita, jefe de los pastores de Saúl.
9 David then asked Ahimelech: "Do you have a spear or a sword on hand? I brought along neither my sword nor my weapons, because the king's business was urgent."	9 David preguntó a Ajimélec: «No hay por aquí a mano una lanza o una espada? Pues ni siquiera cogí la espada ni las armas, por tratarse de un asunto urgente del rey».
10 The priest replied: "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Vale of the Terebinth, is here (wrapped in a mantle) behind an ephod. If you wish to take that, take it; there is no sword here except that one." David said: "There is none to match it. Give it to me!"	10 El sacerdote respondió: «Ahí está la espada de Goliat, el filisteo, al que mataste en el valle del Terebinto, envuelta en un paño, detrás del efod. Si la quieres, cógela, ya que aquí no hay más que esa». David dijo: «No hay otra mejor. Dámela».
11 That same day David took to flight from Saul, going to Achish, king of Gath.	11 David emprendió aquel día la huida lejos de la presencia de Saúl y llegó adonde estaba Aquís, rey de Gat.
12 But the servants of Achish said, "Is this not David, the king of the land? During their dances do they not sing, 'Saul has slain his thousands, but David his ten thousands'?"	12 Los servidores de Aquís le dijeron: «¡Oh rey del país! ¿No es este David, de quien se cantaba en los corros:“Saúl mató a mil, | David a diez mil”?».
13 David took note of these remarks and became very much afraid of Achish, king of Gath.	13 David se dio cuenta del comentario y sintió mucho miedo de Aquís, rey de Gat.
14 So, as they watched, he feigned insanity and acted like a madman in their hands, drumming on the doors of the gate and drooling onto his beard.	14 Entonces fingió ante él tener perturbada la razón. Tambaleándose ante ellos, hacía signos en las hojas del portón, dejando caer la baba sobre la barba.
15 Finally Achish said to his servants: "You see the man is mad. Why did you bring him to me?	15 Aquís dijo a sus servidores: «¿No veis que es un hombre que está loco? ¿Por qué me lo habéis traído?
16 Do I not have enough madmen, that you bring in this one to carry on in my presence? Should this fellow come into my house?"	16 ¿Necesito yo locos, para que me hayáis traído a este a hacer locuras delante a mí? ¿Pensáis que va a entrar a mi servicio?».
