When he broke open the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.1 When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
And I saw that the seven angels who stood before God were given seven trumpets.2 Then I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.
Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a gold censer. He was given a great quantity of incense to offer, along with the prayers of all the holy ones, on the gold altar that was before the throne.3 And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer; and he was given much incense to mingle with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar before the throne;
The smoke of the incense along with the prayers of the holy ones went up before God from the hand of the angel.4 and the smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God.
Then the angel took the censer, filled it with burning coals from the altar, and hurled it down to the earth. There were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.5 Then the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth; and there were peals of thunder, voices, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.
The seven angels who were holding the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.6 Now the seven angels who had the seven trumpets made ready to blow them.
When the first one blew his trumpet, there came hail and fire mixed with blood, which was hurled down to the earth. A third of the land was burned up, along with a third of the trees and all green grass.7 The first angel blew his trumpet, and there followed hail and fire, mixed with blood, which fell on the earth; and a third of the earth was burnt up, and a third of the trees were burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
When the second angel blew his trumpet, something like a large burning mountain was hurled into the sea. A third of the sea turned to blood,8 The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea;
a third of the creatures living in the sea died, and a third of the ships were wrecked.9 and a third of the sea became blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
When the third angel blew his trumpet, a large star burning like a torch fell from the sky. It fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.10 The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the fountains of water.
The star was called "Wormwood," and a third of all the water turned to wormwood. Many people died from this water, because it was made bitter.11 The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died of the water, because it was made bitter.
When the fourth angel blew his trumpet, a third of the sun, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them became dark. The day lost its light for a third of the time, as did the night.12 The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light was darkened; a third of the day was kept from shining, and likewise a third of the night.
Then I looked again and heard an eagle flying high overhead cry out in a loud voice, "Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth from the rest of the trumpet blasts that the three angels are about to blow!"13 Then I looked, and I heard an eagle crying with a loud voice, as it flew in midheaven, "Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets which the three angels are about to blow!"
