1 On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea.	1 Aquel día, salió Jesús de casa y se sentó a orillas del mar.
2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore.	2 Y se reunió tanta gente junto a él, que hubo de subir a sentarse en una barca, y toda la gente quedaba en la ribera.
3 And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow.	3 Y les habló muchas cosas en parábolas. Decía: «Una vez salió un sembrador a sembrar.
4 And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up.	4 Y al sembrar, unas semillas cayeron a lo largo del camino; vinieron las aves y se las comieron.
5 Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep,	5 Otras cayeron en pedregal, donde no tenían mucha tierra, y brotaron enseguida por no tener hondura de tierra;
6 and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots.	6 pero en cuanto salió el sol se agostaron y, por no tener raíz, se secaron.
7 Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it.	7 Otras cayeron entre abrojos; crecieron los abrojos y las ahogaron.
8 But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.	8 Otras cayeron en tierra buena y dieron fruto, una ciento, otra sesenta, otra treinta.
9 Whoever has ears ought to hear."	9 El que tenga oídos, que oiga».
10 The disciples approached him and said, "Why do you speak to them in parables?"	10 Y acercándose los discípulos le dijeron: «¿Por qué les hablas en parábolas?»
11 He said to them in reply, "Because knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted.	11 El les respondió: «Es que a vosotros se os ha dado el conocer los misterios del Reino de los Cielos, pero a ellos no.
12 To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away.	12 Porque a quien tiene se le dará y le sobrará; pero a quien no tiene, aun lo que tiene se le quitará.
13 This is why I speak to them in parables, because 'they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand.'	13 Por eso les hablo en parábolas, porque viendo no ven, y oyendo no oyen ni entienden.
14 Isaiah's prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says: 'You shall indeed hear but not understand you shall indeed look but never see.	14 En ellos se cumple la profecía de Isaías: Oír, oiréis, pero no entenderéis, mirar, miraréis, pero no veréis.
15 Gross is the heart of this people, they will hardly hear with their ears, they have closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and be converted, and I heal them.'	15 Porque se ha embotado el corazón de este pueblo, han hecho duros sus oídos, y sus ojos han cerrado; no sea que vean con sus ojos, con sus oídos oigan, con su corazón entiendan y se conviertan, y yo los sane.
16 "But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear.	16 «¡Pero dichosos vuestros ojos, porque ven, y vuestros oídos, porque oyen!
17 Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.	17 Pues os aseguro que muchos profetas y justos desearon ver lo que vosotros veis, pero no lo vieron, y oír lo que vosotros oís, pero no lo oyeron.
18 "Hear then the parable of the sower.	18 «Vosotros, pues, escuchad la parábola del sembrador.
19 The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away what was sown in his heart.	19 Sucede a todo el que oye la Palabra del Reino y no la comprende, que viene el Maligno y arrebata lo sembrado en su corazón: éste es el que fue sembrado a lo largo del camino.
20 The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy.	20 El que fue sembrado en pedregal, es el que oye la Palabra, y al punto la recibe con alegría;
21 But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away.	21 pero no tiene raíz en sí mismo, sino que es inconstante y, cuando se presenta una tribulación o persecución por causa de la Palabra, sucumba enseguida.
22 The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit.	22 El que fue sembrado entre los abrojos, es el que oye la Palabra, pero los preocupaciones del mundo y la seducción de las riquezas ahogan la Palabra, y queda sin fruto.
23 But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold."	23 Pero el que fue sembrado en tierra buena, es el que oye la Palabra y la comprende: éste sí que da fruto y produce, uno ciento, otro sesenta, otro treinta».
24 He proposed another parable to them. "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field.	24 Otra parábola les propuso, diciendo: «El Reino de los Cielos es semejante a un hombre que sembró buena semilla en su campo.
25 While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off.	25 Pero, mientras su gente dormía, vino su enemigo, sembró encima cizaña entre el trigo, y se fue.
26 When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well.	26 Cuando brotó la hierba y produjo fruto, apareció entonces también la cizaña.
27 The slaves of the householder came to him and said, 'Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?'	27 Los siervos del amo se acercaron a decirle: “Señor, ¿no sembraste semilla buena en tu campo? ¿Cómo es que tiene cizaña?”
28 He answered, 'An enemy has done this.' His slaves said to him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'	28 El les contestó: “Algún enemigo ha hecho esto.” Dícenle los siervos: “¿Quieres, pues, que vayamos a recogerla?”
29 He replied, 'No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them.	29 Díceles: “No, no sea que, al recoger la cizaña, arranquéis a la vez el trigo.
30 Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, "First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn."'"	30 Dejad que ambos crezcan juntos hasta la siega. Y al tiempo de la siega, diré a los segadores: Recoged primero la cizaña y atadla en gavillas para quemarla, y el trigo recogedlo en mi granero.”»
31 He proposed another parable to them. "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a person took and sowed in a field.	31 Otra parábola les propuso: «El Reino de los Cielos es semejante a un grano de mostaza que tomó un hombre y lo sembró en su campo.
32 It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the 'birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.'"	32 Es ciertamente más pequeña que cualquier semilla, pero cuando crece es mayor que las hortalizas, y se hace árbol, hasta el punto de que las aves del cielo vienen y anidan en sus ramas».
33 He spoke to them another parable. "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened."	33 Les dijo otra parábola: «El Reino de los Cielos es semejante a la levadura que tomó una mujer y la metió en tres medidas de harina, hasta que fermentó todo».
34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables. He spoke to them only in parables,	34 Todo esto dijo Jesús en parábolas a la gente, y nada les hablaba sin parábolas,
35 to fulfill what had been said through the prophet: "I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what has lain hidden from the foundation (of the world)."	35 para que se cumpliese el oráculo del profeta: Abriré en parábolas mi boca, publicaré lo que estaba oculto desde la creación del mundo.
36 Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field."	36 Entonces despidió a la multitud y se fue a casa. Y se le acercaron sus discípulos diciendo: «Explícanos la parábola de la cizaña del campo».
37 He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man,	37 El respondió: «El que siembra la buena semilla es el Hijo del hombre;
38 the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one,	38 el campo es el mundo; la buena semilla son los hijos del Reino; la cizaña son los hijos del Maligno;
39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.	39 el enemigo que la sembró es el Diablo; la siega es el fin del mundo, y los segadores son los ángeles.
40 Just as weeds are collected and burned (up) with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.	40 De la misma manera, pues, que se recoge la cizaña y se la quema en el fuego, así será al fin del mundo.
41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers.	41 El Hijo del hombre enviará a sus ángeles, que recogerán de su Reino todos los escándalos y a los obradores de iniquidad,
42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.	42 y los arrojarán en el horno de fuego; allí será el llanto y el rechinar de dientes.
43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.	43 Entonces los justos brillarán como el sol en el Reino de su Padre. El que tenga oídos, que oiga.
44 "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.	44 «El Reino de los Cielos es semejante a un tesoro escondido en un campo que, al encontrarlo un hombre, vuelve a esconderlo y, por la alegría que le da, va, vende todo lo que tiene y compra el campo aquel».
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls.	45 «También es semejante el Reino de los Cielos a un mercader que anda buscando perlas finas,
46 When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.	46 y que, al encontrar una perla de gran valor, va, vende todo lo que tiene y la compra.
47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind.	47 «También es semejante el Reino de los Cielos a una red que se echa en el mar y recoge peces de todas clases;
48 When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away.	48 y cuando está llena, la sacan a la orilla, se sientan, y recogen en cestos los buenos y tiran los malos.
49 Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous	49 Así sucederá al fin del mundo: saldrán los ángeles, separarán a los malos de entre los justos
50 and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.	50 y los echarán en el horno de fuego; allí será el llanto y el rechinar de dientes.
51 "Do you understand all these things?" They answered, "Yes."	51 «¿Habéis entendido todo esto?» Dícenle: «Sí».
52 And he replied, "Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old."	52 Y él les dijo: «Así, todo escriba que se ha hecho discípulo del Reino de los Cielos es semejante al dueño de una casa que saca de sus arcas lo nuevo y lo viejo».
53 When Jesus finished these parables, he went away from there.	53 Y sucedió que, cuando acabó Jesús estas parábolas, partió de allí.
54 He came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said, "Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds?	54 Viniendo a su patria, les enseñaba en su sinagoga, de tal manera que decían maravillados: «¿De dónde le viene a éste esa sabiduría y esos milagros?
55 Is he not the carpenter's son? Is not his mother named Mary and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?	55 ¿No es éste el hijo del carpintero? ¿No se llama su madre María, y sus hermanos Santiago, José, Simón y Judas?
56 Are not his sisters all with us? Where did this man get all this?"	56 Y sus hermanas, ¿no están todas entre nosotros? Entonces, ¿de dónde le viene todo esto?»
57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house."	57 Y se escandalizaban a causa de él. Mas Jesús les dijo: «Un profeta sólo en su patria y en su casa carece de prestigio».
58 And he did not work many mighty deeds there because of their lack of faith.	58 Y no hizo allí muchos milagros, a causa de su falta de fe.
