Sirach 21

1 My son, if you have sinned, do so no more, and for your past sins pray to be forgiven.	1 Figliuolo, tu peccasti? or non peccare più; ma priega (Iddio) per li primi peccati, ch' elli ti sieno perdonati.
2 Flee from sin as from a serpent. that will bite you if you go near it; Its teeth are lion's teeth, destroying the souls of men.	2 Fuggi li peccati, come tu fuggiresti dalla faccia del serpente; e se tu anderai a loro, elli ti riceveranno.
3 Every offense is a two-edged sword; when it cuts, there can be no healing.	3 Li denti suoi, denti di leone, li quali uccidono l'anima degli uomini.
4 Violence and arrogance wipe out wealth; so too a proud man's home is destroyed.	4 Ogni iniquità sì è come una spada con due punte; della piaga di quella non si sana.
5 Prayer from a poor man's lips is heard at once, and justice is quickly granted him.	5 La contenzione e le ingiurie annullaranno la ricchezza; e la casa che è molto ricca, annullerà per la superbia; così la sostanza del superbo si dibasserae.
6 He who hates correction walks the sinner's path, but he who fears the LORD repents in his heart.	6 Il prego del povero della bocca (infino agli occhi e) infino all' orecchie verrae, e l'affrettato giudicio verrà a colui.
7 Widely known is the boastful speaker but the wise man knows his own faults.	7 Chi odia la correzione, è segno di peccatore; e chi teme Iddio, si converte al cuore suo.
8 He who builds his house with another's money is collecting stones for his funeral mound.	8 Conosciuto è da lunga il potente per l'ardita lingua; e il savio sa guardare sè medesimo nel suo parlare.
9 A band of criminals is like a bundle of tow; they will end in a flaming fire.	9 Chi edifica la casa sua alle altrui spese è sì come colui che ricoglie le pietre sue il verno.
10 The path of sinners is smooth stones that end in the depths of the nether world.	10 Stoppa raccolta è la sinagoga de' peccatori; e la fine di quelli è fiamma di fuoco.
11 He who keeps the law controls his impulses; he who is perfect in fear of the LORD has wisdom.	11 La via de' peccanti è compiantata di pietre; e nella fine di quelli tenebre e pene d' inferno.
12 He can never be taught who is not shrewd, but one form of shrewdness is thoroughly bitter.	12 Chi guarda giustizia, riceve il senno suo.
13 A wise man's knowledge wells up in a flood, and his counsel, like a living spring;	13 Il compimento del timore di Dio è sapienza e senno.
14 A fool's mind is like a broken jar-- no knowledge at all can it hold.	14 Non fia ammaestrato colui che non è savio nel bene.
15 When an intelligent man hears words of wisdom, he approves them and adds to them; The wanton hears them with scorn and casts them behind his back.	15 Egli è stoltezza quella che abbonda nel male; e non è senno là dove è amaritudine.
16 A fool's chatter is like a load on a journey, but there is charm to be found upon the lips of the wise.	16 La scienza del savio abonderà come piena d'acqua; e lo consiglio di colui abonda sì come fonte di vita.
17 The views of a prudent man are sought in an assembly, and his words are considered with care.	17 Il cuore del pazzo sì come vaso spezzato, e non terrae alcuna sapienza.
18 Like a house in ruins is wisdom to a fool; the stupid man knows it only as inscrutable words.	18 Il savio, qualunche parola del savio udirae, loderae e aggiugneravvi; udilla il lussurioso, e dispiacqueli, e gittolla dopo il dorso suo.
19 Like fetters on the legs is learning to a fool, like a manacle on his right hand.	19 La narrazione del pazzo è sì come il peso nella via; nelle labbra del savio si troverae grazia.
20 A fool raises his voice in laughter, but the prudent man at the most smiles gently.	20 La bocca del prudente è cercata nella chiesa; e penseranno le parole di colui nelli cuori suoi.
21 Like a chain of gold is learning to a wise man, like a bracelet on his right arm.	21 Sì come casa sterminata, così la sapienza al pazzo; e la scienza del disensato, parole da non dire.
22 The fool steps boldly into a house, while the well-bred man remains outside;	22 Li ceppi nel piede al matto sono dottrina, e sì come legami della mano diritta.
23 A boor peeps through the doorway of a house, but a cultured man keeps his glance cast down.	23 Il pazzo alza la voce quando ride; ma il savio appena tacitamente ride.
24 It is rude for one to listen at a door; a cultured man would be overwhelmed by the disgrace of it.	24 Ornamento d'oro è al prudente la dottrina, e sì come bracciale nel braccio diritto.
25 The lips of the impious talk of what is not their concern, but the words of the prudent are carefully weighed.	25 Il piede del pazzo eleggerà d'andare nella casa del prossimo; e l' uomo savio si vergogna della persona del potente.
26 Fools' thoughts are in their mouths, wise men's words are in their hearts.	26 Lo stolto dalla finestra guarda nella casa; l'uomo ammaestrato starae di fuori.
27 When a godless man curses his adversary he really curses himself.	27 Stoltezza di uomo è ascoltare per la porta; il prudente si graverae pure di vedere quella villania.
28 A slanderer besmirches himself, and is hated by his neighbors.	28 Gli labbri degli sciocchi straboccano cose sciocche; ma le parole de' prudenti si peseranno colla stadera.
	29 Nella bocca de' pazzi è il cuore loro; e nel cuore de' savii la bocca loro.
	30 Quando il malvagio maledice il diavolo, sì maledice l'anima sua.
	31 Il mormoratore sozzoe l'anima sua, e in tutte le cose fia odiato; e colui che persevererae [con lui] fia odioso; il tacito e il savio sarà onorato.
