1 My son, if you have sinned, do so no more, and for your past sins pray to be forgiven.	1 Figlio, hai peccato? Non farlo più e chiedi perdono per le tue colpe passate.
2 Flee from sin as from a serpent. that will bite you if you go near it; Its teeth are lion's teeth, destroying the souls of men.	2 Come davanti a un serpente, fuggi il peccato: se ti avvicini, ti morderà. Denti di leone sono i suoi denti, capaci di distruggere vite umane.
3 Every offense is a two-edged sword; when it cuts, there can be no healing.	3 Ogni trasgressione è spada a doppio taglio, non c’è guarigione alle sue ferite.
4 Violence and arrogance wipe out wealth; so too a proud man's home is destroyed.	4 Spavento e violenza disperdono la ricchezza, così la casa del superbo sarà devastata.
5 Prayer from a poor man's lips is heard at once, and justice is quickly granted him.	5 La preghiera del povero sale agli orecchi di Dio e il giudizio di lui sarà a suo favore.
6 He who hates correction walks the sinner's path, but he who fears the LORD repents in his heart.	6 Chi odia il rimprovero segue le orme del peccatore, ma chi teme il Signore si converte nel cuore.
7 Widely known is the boastful speaker but the wise man knows his own faults.	7 Da lontano si conosce chi è abile nel parlare, ma l’assennato avverte quando inciampa.
8 He who builds his house with another's money is collecting stones for his funeral mound.	8 Chi costruisce la sua casa con ricchezze altrui è come chi ammucchia pietre per il sepolcro.
9 A band of criminals is like a bundle of tow; they will end in a flaming fire.	9 Ammasso di stoppa è una riunione di iniqui, la loro fine è una fiammata di fuoco.
10 The path of sinners is smooth stones that end in the depths of the nether world.	10 La via dei peccatori è ben lastricata, ma al suo termine c’è il baratro infernale.
11 He who keeps the law controls his impulses; he who is perfect in fear of the LORD has wisdom.	11 Chi osserva la legge domina il suo istinto, il timore del Signore conduce alla sapienza.
12 He can never be taught who is not shrewd, but one form of shrewdness is thoroughly bitter.	12 Chi non è perspicace non può essere istruito, ma c’è anche una perspicacia che riempie di amarezza.
13 A wise man's knowledge wells up in a flood, and his counsel, like a living spring;	13 La scienza del saggio cresce come un diluvio e il suo consiglio è come sorgente di vita.
14 A fool's mind is like a broken jar-- no knowledge at all can it hold.	14 L’intimo dello stolto è come un vaso frantumato, non può contenere alcuna scienza.
15 When an intelligent man hears words of wisdom, he approves them and adds to them; The wanton hears them with scorn and casts them behind his back.	15 Se un assennato ascolta un discorso intelligente, lo approva e vi aggiunge dell’altro; se l’ascolta un dissoluto, se ne dispiace e lo getta via, dietro le spalle.
16 A fool's chatter is like a load on a journey, but there is charm to be found upon the lips of the wise.	16 Le spiegazioni dello sciocco sono come un fardello nel cammino, ma il parlare del saggio reca diletto.
17 The views of a prudent man are sought in an assembly, and his words are considered with care.	17 La parola del prudente è ricercata nell’assemblea, sui suoi discorsi si riflette seriamente.
18 Like a house in ruins is wisdom to a fool; the stupid man knows it only as inscrutable words.	18 Per lo stolto la sapienza è come casa in rovina, e la scienza dell’insensato è un insieme di parole astruse.
19 Like fetters on the legs is learning to a fool, like a manacle on his right hand.	19 Ceppi ai piedi è l’istruzione per l’insensato e come catene alla sua destra.
20 A fool raises his voice in laughter, but the prudent man at the most smiles gently.	20 Lo stolto alza la sua voce quando ride, ma l’uomo saggio sorride appena sommessamente.
21 Like a chain of gold is learning to a wise man, like a bracelet on his right arm.	21 Come ornamento d’oro è l’istruzione per chi ha senno, è come un monile al braccio destro.
22 The fool steps boldly into a house, while the well-bred man remains outside;	22 Il piede dello stolto entra subito in una casa, ma l’uomo prudente è rispettoso verso gli altri.
23 A boor peeps through the doorway of a house, but a cultured man keeps his glance cast down.	23 Lo stolto spia dalla porta dentro una casa, l’uomo educato invece se ne sta fuori.
24 It is rude for one to listen at a door; a cultured man would be overwhelmed by the disgrace of it.	24 È cattiva educazione origliare alla porta, l’uomo prudente ne resterebbe confuso.
25 The lips of the impious talk of what is not their concern, but the words of the prudent are carefully weighed.	25 Le labbra degli stolti raccontano sciocchezze, ma le parole dei prudenti sono pesate sulla bilancia.
26 Fools' thoughts are in their mouths, wise men's words are in their hearts.	26 Il cuore degli stolti sta sulla loro bocca, mentre bocca dei saggi è il loro cuore.
27 When a godless man curses his adversary he really curses himself.	27 Quando un empio maledice l’avversario, maledice se stesso.
28 A slanderer besmirches himself, and is hated by his neighbors.	28 Chi mormora diffama se stesso ed è detestato dal suo vicinato.
